Let's talk about the Luke scene

I think we all expect Luke to be superstrong with the Force, so my take on it is that he knows what has happened. Meaning Ben has fully embraced the Dark Side and has become his alter ego. And of course Han being dead. For me, the scene focused on the lightsaber and him resisting it and what it symbolizes.

he was in it for 30 seconds and never spoke.. somehow (in my opinion) he managed to steal the show at the end there lol

 

These responses just show how differently we all view each scene in our own way. To me, I did not like the ending. I needed Luke's entrance to be more...Jedi-like? I needed to see Luke turn around and take off the hood when Han died to show he felt it too. Or, say something to Rey. Or, use the Force to slowly bring the lightsaber to his hand. Mark Hamill, to me, deserved more than 5 seconds. I realize JJ was trying to say something with the silence, and the atmosphere, and the emotion, but I just did not agree with this decision to end on this note.

 

I think we need to know that Luke is broken, and that Rey will be his redeemer. Maybe he's not gone to the Dark Side, but I think he's given up in his own way. The story in this trilogy is far more modern than the OT. It's not necessarily going to be a black/white, good/evil. They've said all along there will be shades of gray.

Maybe I'm crazy but I swear there was a grave next to Luke when he was first revealed. There was a rock that was sticking straight out of the ground like a tombstone with a sort of mound next to it. I need to see the movie again but I immediately noticed the second Luke appeared on screen and thought it must be Rey's fallen mother

 

i won't quote myself lol, but i mentioned this earlier.

I didn't see it, but my friend swears he did. I really need to see that scene again!

 

I'm still trying to process the fact that Daniel Craig & Simon Pegg had more screen time....

but Mark certainly conveyed Luke's sadness and grief.

Yeah, beautiful scene.

It shows so much with so little. Emotions, emotions, and once again emotions. And superb acting from Mark (and Daisy).

All those pictures of Mark with long untrimmed beard...



...made me believe, that we'll see Luke in poor, poor shape, but he look, good, really good.

I think that all this emotions came mostly from realisation, that his destiny caught up with him. That seclusion in not an answer anymore. He's friends die, even after his "escape". In this very moment he knew that he need to train Rey, and have to once again accept risks, take responsibility for another child seeking guide and mentor.

Also I don't think, that Rey is his daughter. Leia would know something. She would sense connection when she saw Rey.

 

there's bound to be an asda or Walmart on the island somewhere. they're everwhere

 

You might not realize this, but Luke Skywalker had been holding a poop for seven years. He almost breaks down into tears, because he will finally be able to rush inside the Millennium Falcon and use the rest room.

(..and for those wondering why he didn't just go in the water: he's sensitive. Force sensitive.)

 

I'm of the party that believes Leia and Han did know something but for some reason to be revealed didn't say anything to Rey about her parentage, perhaps they thought there would be time to do it.

But there was no reaction at all. If they try to hide something from Rey, they should have some kind of reaction, when Rey was not around.

 

Maybe THAT'S WHY Leia hugs her so hard .

 

Cause he's a cry baby. I was hoping he went crazy or was captured. Him being a cry baby on lonely island is so weird and pathetic for Luke Skywalker. But to be fair Luke was always a cry baby.

 

Funnily enough there's none in Ireland

 

I kind of think they did, also remember we never saw Han answer "who's the girl" now why would they do that if Han wasn't going to give an important answer?

 

I didn't really saw this reaction. Han didn't answer, because it was unimportant. Once again in my opinion if Rey is Leia niece Han should have very strong reaction when see her for the first time. Same with Leia.
