Reading the Star Wars news and rumors this morning, I asked myself... what is the main emotion I have in regards of the next Star Wars movie. It wasn't excitement more than it was CONFIDENT.

Then I asked myself, what am I confident about the next film... and what not. Here is my list, please share yours:

    I am confident:

    - Rian Johnson and his abilities to pull out a GREAT Star Wars movie
    - The characters. There are not introducing TONS of new characters and seem to make sure we build on what has been established in TFA.
    - Special effects, visual... Star Wars has never let me down in this department, even if with time, the PT looks funky at time.
    - How Luke will be handled in this episode. From what I read, I think they are going the right way.
    - Box Office numbers: it's almost a given.

I am less confident on the following:

    - The music score. I am not sure it is a good idea even if probably a necessity, to edit the film over music already composed and conducted.
    - How Leia will be handled in the movie with Carrie's passing.
    - How TLJ handles the potential "It's an Empire Strikes Back rip-off" thing. Will it truly distance itself from the OT?
    - Snoke.

What made the middle part of a trilogy works often has something to do with HOW the antagonist is handled.
A lot relies on how Snoke is handled and, I am not that afraid they do a great job on Kylo Ren's character.

Or maybe they have a surprise in store for us and what breaks our heroes in Episode 8 is something totally different.

Vader made it work for ESB.
Dooku was too weak to make it work in AOTC.

i am not confident about what they've done to Hux's hair. and i'm not even joking.
the FO shouldn't look so frazzled and yet our Vanity Fair pics seem to put them "worse for wear".
i mean: yes, they lost Starkiller, but they also destroyed the New Republic.
i'm banking on them just realizing now that the war is real in a way they perhaps didn't realize before.
they were boys and girls playing at war. now they are men and women actually living it.
so it might be okay, but for some reason it makes me nervous.

otherwise, i'm trusting Johnson and Kennedy on this one.
i certainly have more confidence going in than i did with TFA (which i barely managed to drag myself to at the last minute).

You were thinking about Kylo, right? Because Hux looks like he spent the galaxy's supply of gel and hair spray and looks as far as frazzled as you can go. I bet his hair is firmer than Phasma's helmet.

    1. I am confident about Johnson's quality of writing and direction headed for the characters.
    2. I am confident about John William's scoring of the film.
    3. I am confident about costuming/sets . Already looks better than TFA, which I liked very much.
    4. Cinematography looks awesome so far and hope it continues in the film.

    1. I am weary about the types of creatures that will be featured and that they won't look hokey or make the story hokey.
    2. Special effects. Don't know why. Maybe would like to see some technology come into play. and minimal CGI, which Rian has commented about.

no, i'm talking about Hux: that shellac is so severe!
far from not looking frazzled, he looks more tightly wound than he ever did in TFA, which is saying a lot, frankly ~ hahahaha.

Kylo Ren gets messy and we expect that. Hux would be more uptight rather than messy--that's his way of showing stress.
    everything. must. be. in. order.

Is it me or it is harder to pass as a bad guy when you have red hair.
Ginger boys in movies are always playing best friends, good hearted people or just comedic relief.
I can't remember a natural red hair in movies that played villain.
It is the opposite for women: false red haired ladies are often over the top villains or worst.

Probably hence the slick look for Downhill Gleeson

I'm less worried than you about the soundtrack. I don't know many things about scoring a movie, but I don't think the relation between music writing and movie direction is so rigid. For example, Spielberg built part of the last reel of E.T. on an unaltered version of the already written William's score, and this is the result:

You might want to start using [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags. I know English is not my native language, but my reading comprehension is still high. :D

This is great! Thanks for the example Andrea since, E.T. is my JW Favorite score of all time, and probably that particular scene is my favorite with JW's music.
    Bull's eye!

I have 100% confidence in TLJ.

Rian is a supremely talented director and they've add incredible talent.
Nothing worries me about it right now.

    High Confidence:
    • The new locations. This is one place I feel like Star Wars has almost never missed. They are really good at creating new planets and environments that aren't quite like others we've seen before (Mustafar, Takadona, Hoth, Scarif, Degobah, Coruscant, Kamino, Naboo, Endor, Aldaren, Jakku, Jeddah, Tatooine) Even the planets that are mostly desert aren't exactly the same
    • The Cinematic value of future teasers and the official Trailer. The TFA Official Trailer is still the best I have ever seen, not just in Star Wars, but in any movie. They will do a good job on TLJ trailers as well. The trailers have been markedly better since Disney took over (IMO)
    • Special Effects. It's in Lucas Films DNA to push the envelope in Visual Effects, they won't disappoint here. They will continue to set the standard and push it further.
    • Aerial combat. Another one that's part of the DNA of Star Wars movies. I think the best one we've seen came in R! over Scariff but from what we've seen of the trailer, there's another space battle that will Rival what we saw in R1
    • Avoidance of a Planetary Superweapon. If RJ is who people say he is, I just don't think he'll be interested in having yet another planetary weapon in a Star Wars Sage

    Less Confidence:
    • Seamless continuity between 7, 8, and 9. With the approach that's been taken, anything that RJ sets up for future exploration could go without address in Episode 9, just like RJ has apparently punted on a few items set up and developed in Episode 7. I would much rather that they had built out the framework of the overarching story and allow each director to add connective tissue as necessary instead of treating them like a cinematic tag team wrestling effort.
    • Logical "water proofing": any number of new elements can be added or new directions can be taken, but they need to happen in a way that makes sense or has a logical backstory (this will be really important in how they handle the "balance" force concept among other things)

    No Confidence:
    • Marketing. If there is one place they'll screw up, it's here

    Thanks for that, great read.

You are right, well... when TFA came out, I wasn't all that impressed with the new locations. The lightsaber fight in the forest with snow was, IMO, one of the visually best I have ever seen. Rogue One impressed me a lot more on that matter. Scarif is stunning! From what we've seen in the teaser trailer, we haven't seen much, but Crait & Arch-To look fantastic.

As for Marketing... I don't know... it's been reeeeeal quiet so far. I don't know when all of it will be kicking in.

I am 100% confident I will see the movie in the theater... many times. I am also confident I will know much less about the plot going on than I did with TFA.
