SPECULATION Lightsaber duels

    Who's fighting who?

    Question is, who in Episode VII is trained enough to fight with a lightsaber?

    At the end of ROTJ, what we know is Luke is the only one that actually knows how to fight with the weapon.

    Unless a Sith we don't know is still alive somewhere.... Or a Jedi that hid pretty well.

    So my question is... Who's fighting who?

    What anti-climactic it would be for a baddy to come across Jedi Master Luke Skywalker only to get disarmed in a matter of seconds.

    Almost Pythonesque.

    So my question is, again... Who's fighting who?

    Let's recapitulate for an instant:

    Maul, trained by Palpatine, fighting Obi Wan and Qui Gon... Kills Qui Gon... Hence climax=Obi Wan is a padawan and the hero and needs to kill the Dragon.

    Anakin (Padawan) and Obi Wan (Jedi) fight Dooku (Obi Wan master's master)... They both bite the dust.
    Yoda saves the day.

    Redux, Anakin embraces the power of the darkside and kick Dooku's ashes... Not the climax...

    Obi Wan face Anakin and manages to win against his former pupil and powerful Jedi (Chosen one)= climax

    Obi Wan vs Vader - Obi Wan vanishes... Not a climax

    Luke Vs Vader part I and II= climax because the hero is a learner and faces a powerful Dragon.

    There will be no climax if Luke goes against a Sith apprentice. He will kick his ashes big time.

    Nor against another Jedi sensitive not even padawan. He would eat Kira & Co alive.

    So, if Luke fights with a Lightsaber, who's the other guy?

    Its not like there arent other swords in the Star Wars universe. Vibroblades are cannon at this point and im not sure that lightsabers are all that different except for the cutting ability. I dont think it would be difficult for a force-sensitive swordsman to learn to lightsaber duel

    If u look back through the threads there is another thread about lightsabers that has some cool concept pieces and alot of speculation from other cantina members. It'sfrom back when there was only 1 or 2 pages of threads .....but there is some good takes you should check out
    I like your take on who is gonna be Luke's opponent and how close is their lightsaber skills if he was the last jedi and his daddy wiped out the sith who else is badass enough to face master Skywalker

    I brought a theory that the Grave Robber was in fact a droid created by Vader that wants to become Luke Skywalker. And ultimately faces him...

    I read something interesting on another thread that says Luke has become so powerful he created "life"...
    A "drone" or entity that he can control at distance with the Force...

    What if... Luke powers have grown so much, he indeed created life, a dark entity that grows with the Force and ultimately, it's that "thing" that faces Luke. Luke Vs Dark Luke (or the Thing he created with The Force).

    Something he used to control that somehow managed to get a mind of its own.

    Another great post... MarsPhoenix is on a roll.

    Here are some potential lightsaber wielders who could make for worthy opponents for Luke:

    1. An unheard of villain (ancient fear) awakens and rears its ugly head; Bane or Plageious
    2. Luke faces a part of himself (whether it's your dark Luke or some other thing that Luke created)
    3. Vader is reanimated somehow
    4. Asajj Ventress
    5. An army of upstart untrained Sith
    6. Jorus Cbaoth? (Maybe they're trolling us and we are getting a modified Heir to the Empire?)
    7. A clone of Emperor Palpatine
    8. The Inquisitor




    One thing to consider... If Yoda hid on Dagobah for whatever reason... Couldn't the same hold for an equally powerful sith? Maybe they also hid for their own reasons... Semi-retirement if you will...

    My biggest fear in all this is that they are so eager to bring back Vader or at least his likeness that it will come across as forced. I guess I don't completely have a problem with the armor coming back as long as it is done correctly, I just think there are so many other more interesting avenues to be explored within this universe they've created.

    The main point that is always brought up when a return of Vader is mentioned is "Why WOULDN'T Disney bring him back? Think of the dollar dollar bills."

    While this is a pretty realistic assessment, I would prefer to think that Disney purchased Star Wars with the intention of putting out equally great new characters to draw people in and acquire the "dollar dollar bills" referenced earlier.

    Disney might own Lucasfilm but everyone on this website seems to overlook how Disney operates their other studios. Pixar and Marvel are both super super successful studios and Disney knows better to micromanage. I dont think Disney will force Vader on Lucasfilm, and Kathleen Kennedy wouldnt stand for that she has pull in the industry. Disney might own Lucasfilm but Lucasfilm runs itself without Disney all up in it. I also doubt JJ and Larry Kasdan would have agreed to do all they have done for this movie if there were story terms like that from Disney.

    Episode 7: Luke vs Kylo (stalemate)
    Episode 8: Kylo vs Rey (Kylo cuts Rey's hand/arm off)
    Episode 9: Kylo and Sith master vs Rey (Rey cuts Kylo's hand off and defeats both of them)
