The three movies that they've chosen all sound like good ideas. I just hope they're able to actually see these ones through to completion. 'crosses my porg feathers in anticipation'

As for the Rey movie specifically, I think the divisive reaction to the Sequel Trilogy is in fact why this could be a wise move. Since common criticisms of the ST include how it had a similar overall conflict to the OT, Luke's Jedi Academy falling apart, Palpatine coming back, etc. Whereas this new movie, with Rey building a new Jedi Order, seems like a very deliberate attempt to move past all that and truly advance the story forward by showing how the galaxy has in fact changed. To give the fandom what it would have wanted to see with the ST in the first place. While at the same time, having Rey and hopefully at least a couple other returning faces would be a good way to acknowledge the newer characters and to not have their adventures and struggles be "all for nothing" by completely ignoring them and/or writing them out of the canon altogether.

I've seen a lot of fans who were dissatisfied with the sequels and wished to have their story events erased, which I can understand. I don't agree with the sentiment myself, but I totally get where they're coming from. However, for Star Wars to start deliberately writing out parts of its own canon to try and appease disgruntled fans just doesn't seem like a very wise move to me. I've seen other instances of film franchises - Terminator and X-Men - where the later films would start ignoring and/or retconning the previous installments to try and "do things better" the next time, but it only ended up doing more harm than good. Since the later films ended up making new mistakes of their own, and then both franchises ended up collapsing into a mess of retcons and aborted plans, showing off an inability to just stick to their guns and tell a consistent story.

I hope that doesn't happen with Star Wars. As MBWilson said, I think there'd be something admirable about LFL "doubling down" and just going forward with the story they had already started to tell, especially if they do so even with all the naysayers. :)

You know, the irony is TROS was mostly a retcon of TLJ....and it wasn't well received was it?

Well TLJ is still officially canon, at least. It wasn't full-on erased, thankfully.

This subject has been beaten to death, but the numbers for the first two films were in line with other trilogies. However, the last film wasn't well received. The critics didn't like it and it has the worst audience scores ever for a Star Wars film. The Google Trend data before TROS was released showed higher interest in the film that before The Last Jedi was released. This suggests the general audience was really excited for the last film. It just didn't stick the landing... that said.

Rey/Finn/BB-8/Poe are very popular characters. Disney has two parks with toys that could be used going forward. So I'll flip this on its head.... Disney has "seen the numbers" and it's a no brainer to bring Rey back. She's about the only sure thing they've got on the movie front right now. However, they better make sure this next film delivers.
I find arguments that TROS was a retcon to be largely in the hyperbole camp. I didn't like some of the choices they made in TROS, but it didn't feel like a retcon. Rey's parents, maybe, but even that was being debated after TLJ so it's difficult to argue retcon there.

I loved TLJ...got some 'flak' for defending it, but I've learned to be true to myself the hard way, no matter how unpopular it makes me.:D

And not showing the images on line was a silly move.
A project a lot of people is waiting with a lot of spectation because its different from the rest we have seen so far.

I know this project will came the last of the new shows in 2024 but a couple of teasers like Ahsoka, one for all and another only for Celebration would not have killed anybody.

Yeah, I agree but I see both sides. Keeping many of those trailers and reels exclusive to SWC attendees is fair play, but also, there are fans that are there and haven't been able to see some of those things... As frustrating as it is to us on our home planets, imagine being there, in the building and not being able to see that exclusive footage.

I do wish they would do like a week or two later release those trailers to the public. Maybe this time they will... Like you said earlier, you would think from a marketing perspective, they would rather have the high-quality versions out there instead of the shaky, blurry bootleg versions, plus they are paying someone to hunt those bootlegs down and remove them. Hell, even put them up only on Disney+ so they are behind some sort of paywall.

    No.

This argument comes from people who irrationally hate(d) TLJ and Rian Johnson and represents a scenario that, to paraphrase Obi-Wan, exists "only in their own minds".

Again, films that are "not well received" do not generally make over 1 billion dollars at the Box Office, which TROS did.
