Luke Skywalker needs a SON

yeah as I said I did not read TFA novel carefully enough, since I'm mainly interested in Luke's character and he was not really featured in this one.

 

Someone at Lucasfilm needs to stand up to Bob Iger, seriously.

 

I agree with most of what you say. The only thing that's iffy is when you say it is Anakin's story. While that was true it isn't so much anymore. It's been stated multiple times that this is a family generational story. Lucas mainly said that the story was about Anakin because he was fed up with the harsh comments about the PT. He was making an excuse for why not to make 7-9. That being said his excuse is valid and makes sense. but it can easily be modified to the tradition of ... New Skywalker generation is the main character.

OT - Luke and Leia
ST - Kylo/Rey?

The OT was not Anakin's story although he had an arc of redemption, It clearly belonged to Luke and Leia. This new trilogy clearly belongs to Rey Finn Poe and Kylo. Rey being the front runner of leads and Kylo Ren as the primary antagonist atm. But I would say that you're right by saying that if we have a new skywalker i/e not Ben Solo, it will be Rey, and probably not a new character introduced in VIII or IX.

 

I don't think Lucasfilm shares your disdain for making more episodes after IX. Pablo says they have a rough outline for the next ten years.

 

I hope not with getting more Boba Fett, Greedo and whatever spin-offs. I already have skipping material/series in the new canon comics/books, while I started first buying every new released stuff. But with broadening the universe, I lose interest.

 

If they are smart they'll go the Marvel route after Episode IX. Do stand alone Rey/Finn/Luke/Poe films and bring the gang back together for the Episode (i.e. Avengers) films. They can also mix in other stand alone films that don't necessarily tie into the episode films.

 

yeah that would be perfect for me and if Luke is still alive by that time as a Gandalf or Dr. Xavier like character.

 

Also the fact that Maz says to Han "Go Home" and he answers "Leia doesn't want to see me." If they were say divorced, she would probably not mean being home. It's clear in all the novelizations and scripts, but I could see why it was seen as vague when just seeing the film.

That's my hope. Luke is probably my favorite character and I'd prefer if they keep him around for that role. The Star Wars universe needs a wise Jedi Master.

Using that model they could also introduce other major characters. Marvel has done a really good job introducing those characters one by one.

 

About Han/Leia: they married on Endor and Leia still was called "Leia Organa". The novels and script confirmed that they still were married in TFA and they could be together if Han was alive. Shara Bey was another married woman who didn't have her husband's surname (Dameron)

 

Which book said they were married on endor? was it right after the battle? You know, I'd honestly feel bad if Luke is alone and stays that way through this trilogy.

I can't imagine that Luke was alone all that time, maybe not with a wife, lover, girlfriend whatever, but it sounds like he was with RenBen for a while, and probably others he taught, he was on that island and it appeared he was alone, but maybe he wasn't. Obi-Wan was alone and no one got all up in tithers about that, of course he had the younger years being part of a Jedi family type thing. Plus, the fact, these are fictional characters in a fantasy. We have to let our selves let go about the whole "Don't they have emotional needs." etc. As for last names of married women, it sounded like it went all over the place in a GFFA. Norra Wexley was Norra Susser in the beginning of Aftermath, her name during the war, but went by Wexley when reunited with her home planet/son which was her married name.

 

But Kylo and Rey are the opposing aspects of Anakin's legacy. Will Vader's evil return or his sacrifice leading to his redemption flourish.

 

Very true that's a good way of putting it.

There is also the theory that I personally despise that ties in the idea of these films being anakins story. That theory being Rey is Anakin's Reincarnation.

 

Anakin's legacy:
Leia (who have problems about this but has some things in common with Anakin)

Luke (who wanted to be a jedi like Anakin before him)

Ben (who wants ~or thinks that want~ to be like Darth Vader before him)

 

Han Solo would say that no one needs a son lol
