Ha ha but he should have made sure no one in the family has a son, just to be safe. He should have banned sons altogether, they're evil and of the devil.

.....jk though, I love Kylo Ren :D

No, he doesn't. Grow up and leave the sexism in the past where it belongs.

The thing is that we do not know much about Luke after ROTJ. We do not know what kind of Jedi he has become.

Hopefully he'll give Rey & us the fans a quick run down of what happened in the past 30 yrs just like Obi Wan did in the ANH.

I'm ready to feel the hate about Rey's character if she's not a Skywalker. Some people will really get mad.

While we have gotten books about what Leia and Han have been doing between ROTJ and TFA (Aftermath, Bloodline, etc.), we have not received anything substantial about Luke. I believe that knowing what has been doing would reveal some of the mysteries (the identity of Snoke, Rey's parentage, etc.). While Luke might or might not be Rey's father, I am convinced he knows more about Rey's background. I think that we will only get a book about post-Endor Luke, after some of the afore-mentioned mysteries have been revealed in either Episode VIII or IX.

The thing we know is that he was chasing force trees, had an academy and left the world for the first jedi temple. If Luke had a family, it would require a big amount of screen to explain why he left his girl and rather search for artifacts with little Benny instead of taking care of his daddy business.

I mean if Luke failed his family, failed his academy and went fishing on Acht-To, it's one of the biggest failure of all the characters of Star Wars. Is this the Luke we know ?

I doubt we will get anything before VIII is out and maybe even not between VIII and IX. I'm even not sure I will like the material after the ST is finished and Luke may be portrayed as a big failure, while Rey Random creates a new Jedi order.

Luke is already a failure between ROTJ and TFA. He already has to redeem himself from running away and hiding.

I think that it is too early to call him a failure. Things are not looking good, but we do not know exactly what has happened. I think that it is more likely that at the end of this trilogy we will see him as flawed character rather than a failure.

Absolutely not. Jedis are not supposed to go to war. Fighting is the worst outcome possible.

the question is just how flawed Luke will be at the end of the ST (if still alive at all) and what achievement do they still plan to give him.

To me he was (and stil is) the biggest hero in the SW universe, he may have some "flaws", but the character was as pure as it gets.

Your view on those that favor a child from Luke Skywalker is far too narrowly drawn and is based on many assumptions. There are plenty of very logical reasons for believing Luke may have fathered a child. For example...

This is the key. Absent off-screen instruction on celibacy by Force ghosts, there is absolutely nothing in the movies that suggests that Luke would adhere to the old Jedi Code. And the creator himself has said that Jedi are not celibate.

There are plenty of reasonable explanations for why Luke might not seek out his abandoned daughter, let alone even know of her existence. They have been detailed in other threads so I am not going to simply regurgitate them here.

Would a story of a hidden child be somewhat repetitive of the films that have come before? Perhaps, but it is far too early to pass judgment on such concepts when we have so very little knowledge of Luke's post-Endor life. Personally, I think it would be interesting if the story is now flipped and instead of the villain being kept unaware of his offspring, it is the hero who is now similarly unaware... kind of a mirror, opposite image. Like how Kylo Ren is sort of what Luke would have become had he done what OB1 and Yoda asked and he killed his father. (Snoke = Yoda)

It's like poetry, it rhymes.

Well, at the moment, I'm still waiting for those explanations. None I've seen are worth a professionnal story group.

I absolutely don't buy the 'He didn't know' 'He thought she was dead' 'Who told him that having sex can lead to have kids' ...

Jedi are not "perfect" they all make mistakes, they all break rules and many even toy with the dark side. Luke had many chances to impregnate a woman either known to him or not. These opportunities came before and after his short Jedi training. Even OB1 had a love affair in his past that is canon.

If the writers and Disney want Rey Skywalker it wont take a lot of reasoning to explain why a Jedi had a kid.

Luke would have been lonely after his family was murdered.
