I posted this in another forum...what are your thoughts? Admittedly I have only seen the movie once, so it could be completely off base.

I do have one theory though. Even though Luke was 'missing', what if him and Han were still in contact all those years? What if he was expecting Rey to come walking up those stairs? I believe Luke and Han did have a plan and it will be revealed in 8 and 9. I think Han probably knew where the Falcon was on Jakku and probably left it there himself(conveniently located in the location of Luke's daughter). I don't think it was coincidence that Han and Chewie just happened to find the Falcon in space. Han was waiting as Luke probably could 'foretell' that one day she would leave the planet, and Han would have to deliver her to Maz (to retrieve the saber and next part of the journey). There are so many 'puzzle' pieces (for example 'the map'), but I believe they were all set in place by Luke to bring Rey to him. Now I think there was another part of that plan that dealt with Kylo and bringing him to the light side. Basically that might have been the entire reason Luke and Solo came up with the plan. Maybe something went wrong with that plan, or maybe, Solo knew that he would have to sacrifice himself to get his son eventually back to the light. Sounds crazy, but hey its Star Wars!

Pretty sure Han said they picked up the Falcon on the scanners. I took that to mean he had some sort of tracking device on it that he picked up once it was powered up again and flying.
