    There are comics that show him actively looking for more knowledge on the Force. And I wouldn't be surprised if he stumbled onto it on his own through meditating or just letting the Force flow through him.

    EDIT: Just remembered, there is no manual at all in the current canon. There is a journal left by Obi-Wan for Luke, but it doesn't have any actual Force training in it, just stories about Obi-Wan.

    The timeline for the movies puts RotJ a handful of months after ESB. From dialogue in RotJ, I always thought that this was the first time Luke had gone back to Dagobah after leaving to save the others in ESB.

    Maybe when Luke returned to Tattoine he went to Obi-Wan's home and found a holocron which taught him enough where he was able to use the force well and how to construct a lighsaber. Then in ROTJ, Luke goes to Dagobah to strengthen his skills.

    Just read the junior novel "Return of the Jedi: Beware of the Power of the Dark Side" and it confirms that Luke got some parts to construct his lightsaber from Kenobi's place. Though in the Darth Vader comics, it seems that Vader orders Dr. Aphra to blow the place with explosives - guess not everything was lost lol.

    Why not simply go back to Dagobah and finish his training with Yoda? I would rather receive hands-on training.

    Hands on training might not be the way of the Jedi. I mean, we're dealing with beings who give training lightsabers to 5 year olds and then cover their eyes in a crowded room. They play pretty fast and loose with general conceptions of safety and give their apprentices a good amount of leeway:

    "Go and find her."
    "Where are you going?"
    "For a drink."

    WHAT? What did you think Yoda was doing with Luke in "TESB"? Or Obi-Wan with Luke in "ANH"? Or all of those conversations between Qui-Gon and Anakin in "TPM"? Or Yoda with the younglings in "AOTC"? I've seen nothing but hands-on-training in the films? And now you're trying to say that hands-on-training might not be the way of the Jedi? HUH?

    I would assume that the Marvel comic will fill in some answers once it moves into the time between ESB and RoTJ. But seeing as we have 3-4 years in-story before we get to the events of ESB, we'll be waiting a while.
