I agree that it's good fan service, but I could also see how they'd be afraid it'd look super cheesy for the new audience members and if their story didn't have room for a reunion, then so what? They must REALLY believe in the story they have to take that risk.

Literally nothing in any of the spoilers suggests that Han is being wasted. He's in more of the movie than our actual third lead (Poe) of the trilogy. He clearly has a big role to play in this movie.

Currently, MSW's synopsis is the only one that has been consistently accurate...
Sure, there's likely a bunch of it that is way off (lightsaber in space, Starkiller destroying Maz castle), but nothing else has got so much correct.

We don't need incontrovertible evidence to debunk things... we just need a bit more than a mysterious comment in a magazine article. Those magazine writers get stuff wrong all of the time.

I might start a thread to do just that...

MF.com, TFN... he started out on those sites before he started his own.

That's assuming that all of his information came from call sheets/shooting schedules...
    Hint: it didn't.

Late 2014 JW/MSW wrote a lot of reports talking about different pieces of concept art he had seen, some of them were leaked out, others have been released since (such as the Resistance ship concept art leaked by Indie revolver, about 1 year after MSW first wrote about them), and some of them have never been seen (except his discussion on one particular piece which perfectly describes the opening shot of the trailer). Since then, he's leaked out stills from the movie (which have yet to be officially released in any form), and has shared plot details from all throughout the movie, many of which have been confirmed...

Funny thing about the Luke cameo, is that MSW wasn't the place that started that.
They just reported that they had heard the same thing:

"I’ve kind of struggled with this recently because I have a hard time imagining Luke Skywalker is barely in this film since I’ve learned of this truth. But when I read the entire film and the way it unfolds, I trust the choice. It just feels right to me when it unfolds.

"I have wondered if it was a trick or something else. I want to think there is stuff being hidden. But I gotta go with what evidence there is. I really truly believe this evidence I have is very accurate. The evidence is that Luke Skywalker is not really in this film. Two different documents from the production show Mark Hamill as only having one sequence in the entire film." - Jason Ward
    http://makingstarwars.net/2015/02/s...e-spoilers-about-luke-skywalkers-involvement/

"Some of the documents our source is dealing with are coded. Between that and a slight miscommunication, last Friday’s report about Luke Skywalker’s involvement is only mostly correct. It turns out there is one more very small appearance by Luke Skywalker in the film in a flashback sequence that is pivotal. That’s it for this. Please do not get mad at me because you don’t like what the documents state. I can’t change that. But Luke’s screen time went from super small to slightly less super small. After careful study, another appearance of Luke was discovered and not where you would think. His actions read as very important but far from huge on screen time."
    - Jason Ward
    http://makingstarwars.net/2015/02/f...-be-up-to-before-star-wars-the-force-awakens/

Surely he'll have something to say...

To be honest, this whole "Luke will only be a cameo" Thing, doesn really worry me. I am fine with it actually if it turns out to be true.

What I really DONT want to see, is Star killer base being destroyed..... That will be way too much like A new Hope. They cant do it a third time...

I disagree, I think they got the original characters out of the way out of fear of writing them and laziness (not knowing what to do with them), and because they realized they'd have to address a lot of things they weren't creative enough to have answers for (assuming they actually don't in the movie). Things like what's up with the force ghosts, does Luke still communicate with Obi Wan and Yoda, and how about Anakin now? Do we use Hayden's head or go back to the real guy (Sebastian Shaw)? How do we CGI Alec Guinness, and are we even able to do that (Lucas was working on a new special effect technology that would allow us to see dead actors in movies again in new roles by replicating their identical images and voices -- pretty awesome yet somewhat scary). I don't think the filmmakers wanted to address any of that and weren't creative enough to, so they took the safe and easy way out with the story by putting them in "mythic" positions where we hardly see them in the film and will be thankful to see them at all let alone follow up on the very obvious threads left at the conclusion of Return Of The Jedi. It's lazy and allows them to look like they thought and wrote a lot more than they did, when it's really just not there because they didn't know how to address it. So what they're doing is actually the much less risky thing, in my opinion.

It's not the amount of screen time that Han has, it's the crappy way he goes. One, no interaction with Luke, Two, no sendoff, no funeral, no Luke mourning and grieving his friend, he just....dies. Three, he gets killed....by his own kid. This could be really strong if handled right, but....we're supposed to root for this guy at some point? He's supposed to be redeemed from the dark side or something? Umm....maybe, but he will NEVER be redeemed in the eyes of fans. Seriously, I can tell you right now: F**K THE MOTHERF**KER WHO KILLS HAN SOLO. Plus, Han won't be around as a force ghost to show he forgives him or whatever, and I don't want him to be. Can you imagine if Han is a force ghost? That's just horrendous writing. Han, much as we love him, has no business being a force ghost, and it would be incredibly convoluted and retconned writing to do so, and I don't know about you, but I would much rather they didn't.

Where on earth are you getting the idea that Kylo's even being redeemed? All that is pure fan speculation and expectations due to Vader's arc in the OT. There has literally been nothing to suggest that Kylo will go the same route. If you go into this movie expecting things that have absolutely no basis, you're obviously going to hate it no matter what.

Which is why, i am really sure, that they dont kill han. It just doesnt make sense, and JJ being a huge fan of starwars, SHOULD be able to know this. (And i hope he has) Han solo is one of the best characters ever. Everyone loves him, it wouldnt make any sense to kill him off just to show "Look everyone, the main characters are at risk!" It really would bring about a lot of backlash.

It doesn't make sense to kill off a 73 year old mentor in a movie? What. Pretty sure that's the bread and butter of these types of movies.

It's just speculation. Either way, whether Kylo is redeemed or not, what a shitty ending for Han if it happens this way.

Dude, I agree, but Luke Skywalker is also one of the best characters ever! And while I'd be fine with Han dying eventually, we need to see him with Luke first (and Luke and Leia). We need to be around him long enough to say "welcome back" before they kill him forever, and I would hope JJ respects them enough to do that. The only way a Luke cameo is even mildly not as bad as it sounds is if they don't kill Han and there's a guarantee we see their reunion in the next movie, otherwise, it just sucks in every possible sense.

It's only the rumors about Luke that has me a little concerned about just how reverent ol' JJ is with everything after all....

I think the supposed Han dieing will be similar to Kirk in Into Darkness.

You think he he will be doesn't. Even in MSW's outline(which is mostly bs) it does not say he dies. Just says he is silenced.

No proof anywhere that Han dies. No evidence whatsoever

The Luke reveal obviously is epic enough that his role is secret and MSW will eat crow. Yeah they are being duped

Agreed competely. And i wasnt saying that luke WASNT a loved character. I was just saying that Han is just as good as luke (Maybe better to some ;) )
And yeah, i really would want to see the old three back together again, at least once.

But with that being said, i am now sure that the only thing that will make me legit frustrated, is if they go full blown New Hope rehash and blow up starkiller base.
That.... that will just be unforgivable in the story writing department. That will be one of the laziest rip offs i have ever seen. I understand that they want to stay true to the original feel. But there is a difference between staying true to the origins, and downright copying the origins. It will make the first order look like idiots, the movie will have a really bad taste with some people, and it will make everyone ask the question "you couldnt do any better?"

But we will find out in december!

I'm 40 years old in February. Star Wars has been a massive part of my life ever since I saw TESB at the cinema the age of four. Etc etc - I'm sure you know the drill...
And, just for the record, I think, with the gift of hindsight, the prequels were a load of cack on a crumpet, if that helps you understand my POV and the kind of SW fan I am even more. Perhaps not...
But I really don't feel I need to see Han, Leia and Luke onscreen at the same time for this movie to work, or, indeed, be the Star Wars movie I would like to see.
I'm not arguing with you, mate - your opinion is your opinion, and you are more than entitled to it. But, seriously, not everyone who is a hardcore fan of the original trilogy has their heart set on that happening.
    Seriously, they don't.
And when I say "I don't feel I need to see Luke, Leia and Han onscreen together at the same time" I don't mean I actually have an opinion either way - it can happen, it can not happen for all I care.
It might be a crappy movie with them sharing a scene, it might be an amazing movie with them sharing a scene, it might be an average movie with them sharing a scene. Just as it can be an amazing, crappy or average movie WITHOUT them sharing a scene too. I don't give a hoot - I'd rather have the amazing movie *whatever happens in it and who happens to be onscreen with whoever else at any given time.*
I may get that, I may not, but it does not hinge on that solitary issue.
Seriously, everything this fan could want is to see a thought-provoking, entertaining and engaging Star Wars movie on the big screen again after 15 years of tat and ongoing unnecessary revisions to the original movies themselves.
I'm not knocking your point of view, by all means keep doing what you do best and with passion, but every now and again you seem to suggest EVERYONE who is a fan of the original movies HAS to be of the same mindset as you.
Trust me, they really don't and actually aren't.

    Peace and love, bro. :)

It makes you wonder though... How do they make it so epic without any bits of cheese or having some plot holes?

I know that some think that luke will come and save rey and finn when they are fighting kylo. But then that will seem really cliche.

Its gonna be tough, thats for sure. But again i cannot wait!

ya, the marketing seems to lead to a cameo

However, we will see a young Luke but not his face as the only young scene is him with the cloak on touching R2 according to MSW.
They could have just had Hamill do that though if they weren't showing his face

Yeah, there's respectful and there's plagiarism.....Lucas already plagiarized himself once in The Phantom Menace with Anakin....we don't need TFA to take it even further and do it beat for beat for the entire movie which is what it almost looks like at the moment.

And yeah, there is a perception that Han is more "popular" to some, which is why I suspect that he is unfortunately the lead of this film instead of Luke. And what a coincidence that Harrison Ford is also the "biggest star" of the original 3. It's all about "fan service".

Yet 2 second Luke where he does nothing and has no scene with Han and Leia? Like....do they think fans hate Luke or something? WTF....(lightsaber)

    (duel)

I'd like to think so, and it's amazing the amount of people that actually believe that right now....they're in the denial stage telling themselves "No, that's not true...that's impossible!" and they're convinced Luke is in the film for more than a 2 second cameo and that that's why they're hiding him....

...when really he's just not in the film. :(

How will that make them feel, you think?

I mean....is Disney so arrogant as to think they're invincible with everything they want to do with this, and that there won't be a backlash no matter what?
