I think they'll just pretend she never existed. When I was a kid I used to hate it when shows dropped characters and never spoke of them again...and here we are. :p I think we will have Peli as the female friend now.

I liked the character but she wasn't his 'sidekick' or anything. There's absolutely no reason an explanation needs to be given. With all the characters in the show, you either come into contact with Mando in his future adventures -- or not.
No complaints there. Peli is a wonderful character!!!

So we're all just gonna pretend that she was merely an inconsequential background character and she deserves less closure than the frog lady? Ok....

My original question was regarding the CHARACTER. Not the "actress". Cara Dune deserves a fate. She was one of the most interesting creations with a lot of story potential, and it sucks that they seemingly won't recast her. That would be my preference, but if not, give the character the dignity of an ending. She died protecting the NR, or she retired and opened a tiki bar on Niamos. Bottom line is, it's unfortunate that they created this well-written character, obviously they had a future in mind, and then, poof! Can't use her any more.

I guess I don't understand your point, MBWilson. Why does a secondary character in the show need "the dignity of an ending'?

I agree Cara Dune was a well-written character -- one who might have had a future in the SW universe. But the character's future in The Mandalorian series after Season 2 was doubtful regardless of the actress. All the characters moved on since Grogu's rescue. Given Season 3's 'Mandalore-centric' storyline, it's doubtful Favreau ever intended for her to be in the show going forward. It's more likely he and Filoni were thinking of having her featured in her own show.

The cool thing about the "Favroniverse" of Star Wars is there are plenty of well-written characters who will soon be introduced, including Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and Grand Admiral Thrawn. I'm gonna focus on what we're adding, not what we've lost.

Ok. Like I said, we can just pretend. I was just proposing what I thought to be a valid speculation regarding a character that I obviously misunderstood the significance of in the series.

Hey, don't get mad---I liked her too. She was a "tough dame" in a way we'd never seen before in SW or other action movies. But the actress (rightly or wrongly, however folks choose to look at it) got fired.
You didn't misunderstand anything---she WAS significant. In fact, so much so that (while it was never confirmed) I think Favreau planned to feature the character of Cara Dune in his Rangers of the New Republic spin-off. That certainly indicated how much he and Filoni thought of the character and the actress playing her.

My comment was strictly regarding the character's future presence within The Mandalorian series. When the actress got canned, Favreau announced shortly afterwards that his planned Rangers series had been put on the shelf. While not necessary, there might be some throw away line from Greef Karga this season that Cara became marshall on another planet. But a brief mention or not, that's gonna be the end of Cara Dune's story unless they decide to recast her someday.

Just wanted to drop a quick note regarding spoiler etiquette since we are getting closer to the release date.

This is a "Speculation" thread so open discussions of spoilers is not allowed. If you want to post about a known spoiler, you must use the spoiler tag within your post. If you aren't sure how to do that...
    • Highlight the part of your post that is a spoiler
    • In the text formatting options, click on the " + " and then choose Spoiler.
Voila, that's it. This ensures that your spoily bits are hidden behind a dropdown wall that other members can choose whether or not to read.

If you want to post purely about spoilers and behind the scenes rumors or other production leaks, etc, feel free to start up a thread with the "Spoiler" prefix. This let's everyone know that once you enter the thread, it's open season on spoilers and you no longer need to utilize the above mentioned tags in your posts. Of course, please be considerate and do not make the actual title of your thread a spoiler in itself, as that is unavoidable.

Thank you all for practicing safe s... spoilers!

I had a thought, and not sure if this belongs here or not, or if it really matters in the long run, but.

I think TBoBF was great, but it also gets flak for partly being Mando S2.5 which, it certainly was.

I like that though. There's plenty of folks who think the last few episodes were basically taken from Mando S3, but I'm wondering if it wasn't the other way around. Mando S2/3 could have originally been TBoBF, more or less.

Once Favreau and Filoni re-introduced Fett and saw the opportunity for the ultimate Mando team up, they knew they eventually had to tell his sarlacc survival story. And it wasn't quite going to fit in either season of Mando, thus was born TBoBF. But since Fett and Din's stories are still intertwining, it was still necessary to have Mando appear in Fett's story.

I guess this is a long and convoluted way of saying... What are the chances that Fett and Fenec are back again and teaming up with Din in S3? I'd say pretty high at this point. Why stop now?

I thought Boba and Fennec's last scene together on the streets of Mos Espa in TBoBF Episode 7 indicated Boba was itching to 'move on' from being the city's crime boss.

To me, that either meant: 1) another season of TBoBF; or 2) the pair would reappear in Mando Season 3. Given the overall fandom's lukewarm reception to Boba's series, I believe your speculation of another guest appearance is dead-on!

Here are my Top 5 speculations regarding Season 3:

    1. Word is Moff Gideon is a Mandalorian. After he escapes from a New Republic prison, I expect to see him resurfacing wearing cool, all-Black Mandalorian armor. A new 'Darth Vader' for for Disney+ age of Star Wars. :)
    2. I think we'll see the return of Bobba Fett and Finnek.
    3. And speaking of returns, how about a return of Cobb Vanith with a robotic arm? :)
    4. I heard an early rumor that we'll see the return of an IG droid which will become Grogu's 'battle armor'
    5. This is probably more 'wishful thinking' than speculation but I'm predicting Mando Season 3 will introduce us to the live-action version of Hera Syndulla played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

I think every one of these is very possible and every one would be to my liking.

    1. I don't think Gideon is an actual Mandalorian. We know that he led Imperial forces during The Purge and Night of a Thousand Tears, so he may have some sick fetish/fascination with the culture, sorta like The Client seemed to have. Like a wannabe Thrawn.
    2. I hope so! How great would it be for Boba to feel a kinship and desire to help restore his ancestral home, and who better to bring into a fight than Fennic Shand.
    3. Again, a pretty good guy to have on your side in a firefight, and he surely owes Boba a favor or two. This one is the least likely, I think, due to Timmy's schedule.
    4. Hmmm. Do you mean his protector? Or like, actual armor made from an IG? Either way, I like it.
    5. I've heard rumors that she could replace the Cara Dune character. I doubt that simply because I don't see Hera being a sidekick type. She may very well make her debut here, to tie-in the Asokha series, and she may also be the link to Skeleton Crew, what if one of the runaway kids in that series happens to be Jacen Syndulla? I'd love to see her in Mando and see how she interacts with Grogu.

Basically an IG droid in all its gunslinging glory with a harness in his front where Grogu sits.

The TV spot from the Super Bowl had this new image in it (spoiler tagged in case someone wants to avoid new TV stuff):

Interesting. It has partially armored kids in the background...

We are now at less than 36 hours until Season 3!
Let's get those final predictions in now, y'all.

    My Top 3 Predictions
    1. Din and Bo-Katan are NOT going to be fighting each other. I know there's a lot of talk about her being at least an antagonist, but I think we're being pointed down the wrong road. She will get some resistance in her plan to rule Mandalore, but Din will be her ally, even if it is a tense friendship at times. My wild card for antagonist here is The Armorer.

    2. We will get another Luke-type Legacy Character cameo. Leia... Han... Mon Mothma... In addition to a Rebels Character live-action debut. Sabine or Hera appearing as a bridge to the Asokha series are most likely, I don't see Thrawn getting dropped here, as he will likely be the big reveal in Asokha. As far as the Legacy Character, Mon is most likely, but Leia could also fit with a NR arc.

    3. It seems a given that we will find out who rescued Grogu from the Jedi Temple, that has got to be what is happening in the trailer. So my prediction for that, it's a previously unknown character. Not Windu, not Jocasta Nu, Anakin doesn't spare him. Somebody created for the specific event.

Highly unlikely, but what if this scene is the Fall of the Old Republic and the retrieval of the Darksaber by Mandalorians from the Jedi Temple?

    Interesting stuff--as always--MBWilson.

Regarding this prediction, it should be mentioned that another possibility is that Grogu wasn't saved at all. He was captured and put in a state of suspended animation inside The Inquisitorous in one of the cubicals (that we interpreted at the time as tombs) in Obi-Wan Kenobi S1:E4. At the time we got this particular setting, I suspected it was for a reason that was much more important than providing viewers with a 'cool' environment.

It still doesn't explain how he was rescued, but this theory explains why Ahsoka talked about Grogu's "darkness" following Order 66.

Could be, and, that could tie to the mysterious character in the tank in the Jedi: Survivor trailer. Ooh, that could make the mystery person cutting through that door... the Grand Inquisitor? He was there, if he had Grogu with him when he was captured, or turned, or whatever...

Could also be... we do see a shot of Grogu with blue and green lightsaber reflections in his eyes, though. I will say I'm 90% sure this is NOT Vader during Order 66, just because it doesn't look like his blue saber breaching that door.

I am very interested in HOW and WHEN this Order 66 flashback plays into the current timeline.
