Many have suggested that Leia was most likely going to take a central role in EPIX, so if that's the case, and if the story can't be worked in a way that doesn't seemed contrived without her, then I would hope she be recast. I'm not a fan of the ST at this point, but I'm hoping EPIX can bring everything together, and I hope that Disney and LFL would make the right decision.

What's more sacrilegious than having Leia portrayed by someone else is having the ST fall short of what it was supposed to be by not recasting her. Despite my criticism of the ST and TLJ, I hope after EPIX I (and every SW fan) can get the full picture as it was intended when the minds at LFL made the outline. If there's no Leia, and EPIX falls short, we'll all wonder what it could have been.

It's an impossible decision, but I hope Carrie's family and friends come to the conclusion that it's more important to have her last performance in TLJ be part of something great within the ST instead of having the ST come up short due to the absence of Leia in EPIX.

Now who's to play her, I don't particularly care, as long as it's believable.

Agreed completely with you there. The stakes of EPIX to exceed expectations will be even higher, because not only they are willing to bring Leia's role back to what it was intended, but completely recast her. They need to do something amazing in honour of Carrie Fisher, and everyone of past, present and future.

I understand why some fans would like Leia to be recast, it is a shame we will probably never see how she was supposed to fit into the ST as a whole. I'm pretty good at suspending disbelief when watching a movie, but even I would struggle if Leia suddenly had a different face and voice. I would prefer they took some of those story strands and worked them into a new book set between 8 and 9.

They were already down to one viewing. That Disney wants Meryl of all people to play Leia(lets stop pretending that this petition isn't Disney-driven), tells you all you need to know.

Not even a Red Box buy at that point.

And where is the petition to leave Leia the heck alone?

I wouldn't be surprised if Kathleen Kennedy played Leia in 9 so she can show everyone she run the show, or how to run the show.

I think she's a great actress, a chameleon. If it were to be anyone, it has to be her. On a personal note, I don't like how she referred to Wienstien as God in her Golden Globe acceptance speech, Come on Meryl, you knew what was going on. Anyway, I hope they don't recast Liea though. They should work the script around her.

This is a horrible idea. I would rather see some flash backs of old Liea footage than have anyone else play the roll. That would like saying hey Mark Walberg you look like young Luke can we cast you.

Here is thing with this entire thread, it really doesn't matter. We can speculate and throw stones at each all day long. It does keep a smile on my face. As fans what we say doesn't matter. Brace for impact. Lucas, Disney and JJ are going to make the movie that they want to. We will watch and hate it or love it. We will. Can we hope they do the thing right morally, of course. Just remember it is Hollywood; lack of morals and great story since its beginning. It is also their money. Stop right there before even think it, we as fan give them our money. Yes. It stops being our money at that point. This seem more of heated topic then the original poster started with.

Here is why you have people who love Carrie Fisher and think it disrespectful to recast Her character after 40 years. Other side is people love Leia not the person portraying her. She stands as symbol of hope and they want to see Leia as this chapter ends. Both arguments are valid. We all should just take a step back and just wait and see what happens.
