Yes, hearing the iconic theme blare throughout the theater was amazing.

Well the reason that it gave me chills is that death is the one out of two things that I am scared of ever and seeing that knowing look on his face and willingly accepting it literally "just-because" (I say that because he probably knew it was a failed mission from the start) and allowing it to happen and knowing that his own death could have been prevented easily.

yes his death could have been prevented, but that's exactly the beauty of self-sacrifice, innit?
he gave up his life for his son.
even if he had no way of knowing whether Ben could/would be saved, he forgave him; that was what mattered to Han.
like you said, he probably knew he wasn't going to talk Ben off the bridge. but he wanted his son to know that they loved him, no matter what, and would have done anything for him, period.
so it wasn't a failed mission. not in that sense.
to me the scene is so chilling not because it's so scary or sad for Han, but because it's tragic for both of them that they should lose one another in this moment, so close to perfect understanding.

Biggest chill moments of the film for me were:

    - "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away"
    - Star Wars theme blaring in the theater
    - Scrolling text with that classic theme
    - A very visually amazing pan down to the planet Jakku and whatever moon that was next to it
    - Finalizer crossing in front of the planet Jakku and the smaller ships leaving it to make the approach to collect the map to Skywalker
    - BB-8 rolling off into the sunrise
    - The TIE fighter escape sequence from the moment you feel Finn and Poe's excitement building when they first meet to the point their ship is hit by the ventral cannons
    - The cinematography of all the Jakku scenes was amazing
    - The tie fighters from Rey's perspective circling out in the distance to make another pass on them
    - The scene where the camera pans and we see the Falcon for the first time
    - The entire Falcon battle scene
    - The Falcon leaving Jakku, flying past the camera, and out into space felt so realistic
    - The scene where Han and Chewie enter the Falcon
    - The Rathtar chase sequence had me on edge the first time viewing the film
    - Maz's castle felt so much like the Cantina
    - The whole sequence of Rey being called to the saber and eventually the vision sequence in its entirety still gives me chills
    - Hux's Speech and Starkiller Base firing
    - The Battle of Takodana
    - Leia and Han meeting for the first time in years and the C-3P0 introduction
    - Kylo Ren freezing Rey and the interrogation of her on the planet
    - The sequence on D'Qar as Finn and Poe enter and we see everyone standing around the central planning area with Leia focused center in frame with her back to us
    - BB-8 discovers R2-D2 and we realize he is in "low-power mode"
    - Rey fighting against Kylo Ren's interrogation and telling him he is afraid because he will never be as strong as Darth Vader
    - Rey learning to use her powers
    - The Battle of Starkiller Base
    - Han Solo saying "BEN!!!" for the first time to Kylo Ren
    - Han Solo talking to his son before he is murdered
    - The entire reaction of everyone else to Han's death
    - The lightsaber forest fight sequence still gives me chills
    - Rey crying over an unconscious Finn in the dark, snowy forest
    - Chewie in the Falcon with lights on lighting up the forest and coming to save Finn and Rey
    - Starkiller Base imploding then exploding with the Falcon and all the X-Wings flying away before going lightspeed
    - Rey and Leia meeting for the first time
    - Rey saying "We'll see each other again" and kissing Finn
    - Leia saying "Rey.... May the Force be with you" and Rey's smiling reaction
    - Chewie smiling at Rey as they prepare to takeoff
    - Coming out of lightspeed at Ahch-To, entering the atmosphere, and skimming the water as they approached the island
    - Rey walking up the steps to meet Luke and the music build-up as Luke senses her, turns around, she pulls out the lightsaber, and he just looks at her in a very special caring way
    - The final shot circling them both
    - The theme repeating for the credits

    - "A long time ago..." omg it's happening!!
    - That awesome "Episode VII" crawl
    - Stormtroopers dragging crying native alien into line for execution, that moved me more than anything in those scenes.
    - "Look how old you've become. Something far worse happened to you."
    - Poe's resistance (pun intended) on Jakku despite overwhelming odds, including destruction of an X-Wing
    - Rey exploring Star Destroyer
    - "Luke Skywalker? I thought he was a myth."
    - "The garbage will do." scene.
    - That amazing Tie chase
    - Kylo wrecking blast up
    - Falcon gets captured (I genuinely thought it's the First Order)
    - Han smiling while hugging the cockpit (nostalgia killed me)
    - "The Jedi were real?" "Yeah, I knew Luke..."
    - "Through the ages I've seen evil take many forms. The Sith, the Empire..."
    - Kylo chasing and abducting Rey, the perfect haunting scene
    - "It's the resistance!" scene.
    - Hux's psychotic speech and his sick expression of worship (on his face) for the red energy of death destroying the planets. Poor Korry.
    - Han meeting Leia for the first time
    - "There's too much Vader in him."
    - Falcon crashing on Starkiller, truly iconic scenes (reminded me of KOTOR2 crashing scene also)
    - Han's death (I'm old OT fan so it really shocked me, I didn't believed it and was like paralyzed until the end of the movie)
    - Kylo looking at Finn, Chewie and Rey through the flames
    - Kylo beating the bloody wound
    - Kylo burning lightsaber through Finn
    - Kylo and Rey driving sabers through trees and snow
    - Luke's whole reveal (by that time I was teary eyed with a smile on my face, literally)

The only proper tweet, the only word I was able to write after the movie premiere was: "Overwhelming!"

Best moment to me, was when the lightsaber flew past Kylo and into the hand of Rey. To me, that is the moment in the film. The music. The great job by Daisy and Adam. Just nailed that moment. I find I skip over Han's death now and go right to this scene; because I can't watch him die, and that scene is so powerful.

The destruction to the hosnian system? I just went, "...meh okay" because there was nothing to it and felt like the equivalent of squashing a bug.

These moments were exquisite and the flashback did give me chills, not quite the good kind but they count.

As the music is slowly building, and Han turns and looks out across the lake and proclaims; "It's the resistance", and then we cut to that epic shot of the X-Wings skimming across the water, led by Poe who at this moment, is not giving any 'friggs' about the thugs he's about to lay the smack down on. Then subsequent shots of TIE's running scared from the surprise attack. This is one of the few scenes in any Star Wars movies, where the good guys swoop in for the rescue in such epic fashion, and actually win the day.

John Williams score for this scene was the icing on the cake. IMO, this is the 2nd best theme in the TFA, after Rey's theme.

And of course Rey catching the Saber. After her initial vision, then refusing to be 'part of any of this', then going through hell with Kylo in the forest, the interrogation room, and then watching him kill Han, it was a great build up and so perfectly done. I actually cried a bit at that moment.... and the music that played as the saber landed in her hand... my god the music! This is also the scene where I knew JJ had "done it". I officially cared more about Rey then even Luke at that point. Well done JJ!

Agreed for all the scenes listed above. [IMG]

Just missing one : that moment when R2 wakes up, and BB-8 comes to him, and they both start blip-beelooleep like old friends!
Dat sweet little droïd, living again! [IMG]

For "elder fans" like me, the first seeing of the film was difficult : Leia and Han had aged, Han dies, Luke has vanished, and Artoo is mute. What a pleasure of hearing him biping again!!! Even if at this moment I didn't really realized why he came up to life...

Chills, huh? It depends on what kind of chills.

When Kylo told Rey "I can get whatever I want" my stomach turned and a chill went down my spine.
When Kylo screamed "Traitor!" to Finn, I gritted my teeth and almost pulled my hair.
When Rey caught the saber and "The Burnt Homestead" started playing I welled up, chills again.
And when I saw Luke again, crying and the music swelled.
