I just think it would totally negate the entire point of every single SW movie before TFA .

I'm not worried about the Rey=Anakin theory. You know why? Because I feel like most of us aren't very good at coming up with theories and I find what tends to get traction doesn't ever hold up. I remember about a year ago when people were convinced that Rey's staff was going to be revealed as "the Staff of Darth Plagueis" since for some strange reason, a very vocal portion of the fan base wants Plagueis to be in every single theory ("Jar Jar is Plagueis reborn!" "Snoke is Plagueis!" "Rey is Plagueis!"*). Another was that it was going to be revealed that Rey was Kylo's long lost sister (with the names "Kylo Ren Solo" and "Kira Rey Solo"). The root of it being a first draft name for Rey (Kira) being leaked.
I mean, even a common and not unreasonable theory is already falling apart: Rey being Luke's daughter and was hidden on Jakku after Ben fell to the Dark Side and pulled Order 66 part 2. With information from Bloodline revealing that Ben was still training with Luke about a decade after Rey was left on Jakku, the theory just falls apart.
I'm not saying we shouldn't speculate (I mean, it is fun and we currently have nothing better to do until the fall when we have more Rogue One info and Rebels comes back), just remember that we can be very wrong and not to take any theory way to seriously, especially if it is about future stories.


*Okay, I just made that one up. I hope. Please do not tell me if people are actually suggesting this.

 

I personally did not care for the Chosen One/Prophecy concept at all in the prequels, so the idea that Rey would be the Chosen One reborn is completely ridiculous. I may be on a small island with this idea, but to me, Rey really needs to be Luke's daughter to carry on the tradition, poetry, allusion, or whatever you wish to call it to be compared to the previous trilogies. Sometimes the simplest answer is the best answer. And, I hope they take care in writing Luke's part to explain why she was Jakku, without making him look like a weak Jedi, a bad father, or an individual running away from failure.

 

I join you on that small island . Didn't care for the chosen one stuff either . And speaking on islands and the simplest answers , maybe Luke has been gone all these years cause he just happens to be stranded on an island ?

I saw this "supposed" script leak a while ago. I immediately dismissed it when it became obvious that they were just mixing the legend of the Avatar from the Avatar The Last Airbender animated series into Star Wars. Seriously, if anyone has watched much of that series, this will scream Avatar to them.

 

nope the price to get into the movie to see episode 8 ten times at theater. LOL

I think Rey being Luke's father (sort of) is fascinating and not a twist I'd be mad at. Echoes of the Dark Side is a meh title for me. It also would deviate from the "formula" of making the second movie title about something involving conflice (Empire Strikes Back, Attack of the Clones) however that would not surprise me because Rian Johnson is not a formula type of guy. The synopsis has the makings of an interesting movie but the lack of character development for FInn and his only thing to do is being duped by Tran's character and Phasma and being bait for Rey disturbs me and I hope that is not true or incomplete. Like the backstory, like the ghosts angle...Like Luke's rationale for being gone. The dead mother seems very formulaic and cliche for Star Wars not loving that aspect either... There is a lot to like with this story. I however not believing much of this...except maybe Del Toro's characters role. That makes a lot of sense and I think would add a lot to the story.

 

Really? Star Wars kinda operates on clichés and formulas. I mean, it's the monomyth.
And you shouldn't be believing this. It's fake.

It does..but the dead single mother is cliche for Star Wars and I would like them to do something different. BTW..I do not believe the story, just think it has some interesting aspects. I think that Del Toros character will end up being some kind of politician/villian its come up more than once.
