He's been trying to change the release date since Disney set it to be Dec 18th 2015.

Wow that's pretty insane if true. However, from a business and marketing standpoint would they be ready? Has anything like this ever happened before?

Pop quiz, iKwiz: Why would Disney pit both of its 2015 behemoths against one other?

    I find this doubtful.

    1. The source of this news...what is ikwiz? Trying to get more traffic on their site perhaps?

    2. The marketing of the movie has so many moving parts with carefully timed release dates (Battlefront, Toys, Novels).

    3. The alleged reason for moving the movie to summer is to avoid the plot being spoiled?

    4. The movie was already pushed back from May to December, now they are changing their minds?

    5. JJ just said he hasn't seen a rough cut of the film yet and reshoots haven't happened yet either.

    6. A sixth reason just because

If the movie is well done and ready, then more power to them. I would be happy to see the film much earlier but only if the final touches on it are done properly.

Move number 4 to number 6 and place " Arsenal " in that slot because Arsenal is always number 4. ;)

They aren't even finished cutting the film yet. No way the date gets changed...plus like someone said the source is weak.

    Man, that's really specific!

As stated above, JJ always tried to change the release date. Bob Iger is the Boss though, I doubt we'll be seeing TFA before December 18th...

I would love it if they moved it up, but probably won't happen. If it was moved up to its traditional May release we could get the Bluray around November. Win-Win for everyone!

The article never states May. Or any date/month for that matter. Also, if it were late enough in the month, it wouldn't draw from Major AOU revenue, and vice-versa as the situation goes.

I think times have changed where these blockbuster movies have a good 3 week run that they make a majority of their money and then fans move on to the next blockbuster. There are so many multiplexes now that EVERYONE can see a movie opening weekend. To give context to the changing times it took me a week just to get a ticket to Batman in 1989 cause there weren't as many theaters back then so a blockbuster had a longer shelf life.

I don't buy it. Lucas spent years on Star Wars post preduction, years, not 3 months. Star Wars is a very complicated post production process and the fact that they are attempting to do it in a year is bold.

Also, basically all the highest grossing films of all time are released the dec. 18th week. There is zero reason to take a film that might be the highest grossing film of all time and move it to a week in the summer where it very well could gross less than that. The toys and DVD's will sell no matter when it comes out.

Exactly. They'd be taking away from their own box office numbers for both films. EVEN THOUGH I WISH IT WERE TRUE!! :D
