I think Han knows who she is but also knows that she's hiding ("...'Rey', huh?") and why. He doesn't want to out her so leaves it be.

I don't think she's his daughter, though. Maybe Luke's, but most probably the daughter of someone else he knows who we'll meet in Episode VIII.

 

This, but I also think Harrison coming back even just for one or two flashback sequences isn't entirely out of the question...

 

The novelization goes more into Han and Leia's reunion and thoughts about each other. It's told more explicitely that if Han had survived, he was planning on coming back and trying to reconcile with Leia. He says before he leaves "Leia, there's been something I've been wanting to tell you for a long time" and she says "Tell me when you come back".

It also says outright the only reason he confront Ben was because Leia asked to him to. The novelization says:

A chance, then, to make it back to the Falcon before everything on this planet went to hell. A chance later for another reunion, on another world. A face swam before his, its features aged but still soft, the voice that emerged from between so-familiar lips biting yet always affectionate. Forming words that lingered in his thoughts. Forming, at last hearing, a request.

A request that wouldn’t go away, he knew. It would never go away. He made up his mind. Instead of retreating, he advanced. Instead of running for safety, he took up the challenge. There was no real choice, he told himself as he advanced to the edge of the walkway. And called out.



I think it was an honourable way for Han to go out. He loves Leia and he knew their family would never be whole again unless Ben was redeemed. Leia asked him to bring him home so he tried so their family could be whole again.

His actual death was a little weakly written by the novelization though I thought. He just says something like he thought of friends and all the things he'd said and wished he hadn't said before he falls. I don't think he probably thought of anyone but Leia, Ben and maybe Chewie in his final moments.

 

I just can't get over how they made Solo a failing smuggler, a coward, and dead beat dad.

So Ben Solo turns evil. Depressing, devastating stuff.

But for Solo to just go back to his old life undoes everything he went through in the OT. He went from selfish smuggler, to caring about friends, to caring about the cause, to a family man, to....a smuggler??

Cheap and lazy.

The guy who came back to save stranger Luke in ANH gave up on his own son?? How do other fathers feel about this? Because it is crazy cowardly to me.

He could have been obsessively looking for Luke, obsessively hunting Snoke, obsessively tracking down Kylo, maybe even obsessively searching the galaxy for answers to the dark side, etc.

Instead, JJ just hit "reset"

It cheapens his entire arc from the OT!!

Just gave up on his own son and bounced. How is that the hero who grew in the OT?

He is basically a pathetic loser when we meet him in this. How is that fun?

 

Yep agreed to all of the above, but I did strangely enough still enjoy the movie.

Yep, and they hit reset with Leia too to some degree, which wasn't mentioned above. That's what we Han/Leia fans have been discussing in another forum. Despite oddly enjoying the movie, we're all upset about what they did to Han and Leia. Thankfully, they're still married (according to the novel), but this movie really broke our hearts in the relationship area.

Interesting how they're trying to integrate Harrison Ford STILL even though he's pretty much done alreadt.

Great post. Truly endearing and my eyes are watering for a weird reason as I type

But, aside of everything we have discussed, maybe we never expected our scoundrel with a heart of gold to run away of pain and grief back to his old ways. But he was human. Not everyone reacts the same when bad things happen. And as much as I would have loved a sugar-coated Disney future for both and their offspring (...happy forever after sort of) eternal happiness is an utopia. So as tragic as it seems, that is just life. Either we like it or not. Truth is - at least for me - is that now that I see the OT after watching TFA it feels more endearing and cannot wait to find out what's next.

Marvel reveals Star Wars: Han Solo comic FIRST LOOK

New Han Solo comic series set after Episode IV and before V has the storyline of Han as a racing pilot competitor, as was referenced in the TFA Visual Dictionary as Han's occupation after Return of the Jedi.

 

I really wish they would have just set this after ROTJ. There is waaaaay too much content set between ANH and ESB right now.
