as per the "new" rumor when reading I thought of Superman
shot out to save his life
what if she is in an escape pod ala superman, or in the OT 3po/r2
or even like JJs first star trek begining
making sure she gets away from the battle
maybe her last name is that of an old Imperial line

Not sure what is what anymore but Kira Skywalker at least sounds like a very cool Star Wars'y name to me.

Rey Solo sounds fine too though . Also if Han is her father and he dies then it will be a good plot device for the next movies . In her heart she will want to seek revenge and those emotions will put her dangerously close to the dark side.

This rumor is very interesting. If it's true, then it suggests that the plot element of Luke being gone/missing originated from George Lucas. I also wonder, when JJ changed Michael Arndt's script, did he keep the idea of parent-in-prison-and-child-grew-up-like-orphan, but modified it to involve Luke and his kid instead?

I am starting to lean towards Rey either being Luke's daughter or not related to any of the big 3.

Devin Faraci (Badass Digest, Birth.Movies.Death) thinks (<-Episode VII & VIII spoilers) she's Leia's daughter now (he had more uncertainty before) but that they may drag out the reveal until a future movie.

She's just the hero of the new trilogy. Doesn't mean she's related to anyone.

If they relate her to someone of the big 3 they better have a really strong idea for why they let her leave like a tramp on a desert planet.

Just wondering, if she is Luke's daughter, wouldn't that mean that Luke has broken the Jedi code? Aren't they supposed to be basically celibate, i.e. not allowed to love or marry?

I do hope she is his daughter personally, but think it's more likely she'll be Leia's.

Rey story seems so sad and desperate, even heartbreaking. I find this character's arc so much more interesting and intense.

Maybe Luke created new rules. Or maybe Luke does not consider himself a Jedi anymore.

Anakin fell in love and had sex with Padme, he broke the jedi code. I like the idea of Luke breaking the code too, like his father.

This is most controversial, stupid and bizarre Jedi rule. Basically you can form strong binds with other people, as long, as sex is not involved. It's about time to shake old unsuitable rules, rules that contributed strongly to fall of the Jedi Order.

Yes indeed, it would raise the question if force sensitivity goes to the next generation and what would have happened if 1000 generations of jedi got kinky where they could, how big would the force user crowd be. better not think about it to much.

Ok, seeing as we're being starved of new info, I decided to do some digging. This may or may not have been discussed here but I found these quotes VERY interesting....

Timothy Zahn (who was briefed by Lucas on the sequels): “The original idea as I understood it— and Lucas changes his mind off and on, so it may not be what he’s thinking right now – but it was going to be three generations. You’d have the original trilogy, then go back to Luke’s father and find out what happened to him [in the prequels], and if there was another 7th, 8th, or 9th film, it would be Luke’s children."

In Starlog magazine, Issue 127, February 1988, George is interviewed and asked the following question:
Starlog: Why didn’t you give Luke a girl?

Lucas: "You haven’t seen the last three yet."

Luke would have a romantic relationship with a female love interest. Bill Warren. “George Lucas: Father of the Force”. Starlog #127, February 1988.

I find that a logical rule.
Jedi with wife and childrens would not be fully committed nor to jedi order nor to family.
Or they would put familly at first place and Jedi order on second.

Jedi must be fully committed to the Jedi order. For example that is why Catholic priests are not allowed to have wives. Also Budist monks.
    Jedi are basically monks.

Also Padawans were separated from their families at an very early age. Jedi did not have close relations nor with their own families ( parents, sisters, brothers ).
Anakin did not saw his mother for 10 years.

For example Anakins love for his wife was a problem that eventually turned him to the dark side.
In the case of Anakin we saw why Jedi had that rule.

As we learn in PT. Only small number of force sensitive people in universe become a jedi. Only strongest of them in the force were trained.

Lucas said... a lot of things. He said in 2008 that Luke would not get married, that the EU wouldn't be what he would do with the story, and earlier in 2005 that Han and Leia would probably settle down with the house and white picket fence and cooking burgers but is "[not] a movie."

Mark Hamill said how the Leia revelation sort of messed up Luke at San Diego Comic Con 2015.

Yep just so why introduce the celebacy thing, and even Padme says she can't because she is a senetor, so live senators in celebacy to, doesn't make to much sense.
