I mean, I was kidding. But since we're talking about it, if we're seriously considering that she's Leia's daughter, it's more than possible that Pooja could be her mom.

I'm still on the boat that she's only adopted as a Skywalker. I think thats the only red herring. Hate it if you want but my treory holds as much water as the mainstream theory of her being blood of the OT cast.

You're going to see and hear a load of hot air from the appearances and marketing for the next 40 days. The merchandising department has been more interesting.

    http://www.wired.com/2009/04/mf-jjessay/

He is all about the first time watch. With his attitude, why rewatch anything if you already know how it goes? Why watch movies based on books or other adaptations? What about, you know, non-fiction?

And so we got the cast and crew of Star Trek lying about Khan in a movie that was not very good. Surprise doesn't make a movie a good movie by itself. I've seen countless movies where I didn't research what was going on before (only got so much time) and then thought they were mediocre or crap.

I never thought about that. The OT you can watch over and over again it never loses its magic. To have a film which is designed for first watch only may harm the film later on. By that I mean, we can't get excited because they went for the shock moment but after a viewing it becomes sterile and viewers desensitised to the story.

I think she's a random. Kathleen's statement about "family" can also apply to:

    - Adopted family.
    - Kylo Ren. His story seems to basically be the exact opposite of Luke's. We've seen a Skywalker kid succeed, why not see one fail?

Something about Rey's backstory, it just looks like they wanted so badly for her have a similar "growing up as a nobody on a desert planet" as Luke and Anakin and then wrote this convoluted flashback to explain how she got there instead of it just flowing organically. That's one of my concerns for this movie is that they wanted to hit certain beats and wrote the story around those beats, instead of the other way around. Hope they can pull this off without pissing off parts of the audience who already have their hearts set on her being X character's daughter.

Something tells me that Rey is either the daughter of Luke or someone else unrelated to the Skywalker clan. Kylo is Leia and Han's son (and maybe her cousin.) One reason is the accent that she uses in the trailer... I'd think she talk more like her parents. Another reason is that surely Leia and Han didn't misplace their kid and let her grow up as a scavenger. If her father is Luke and unbeknownst to her that would make more sense than being Leia's daughter. It's a little harder for women to misplace a kid or not know that they have one, LOL. Not to mention is would make Leia and Han look like the worst parents ever, since they (speculatively) already have a Vader wannabe as a kid, and then they have a lost daughter who lives as a poor scavenger on some backwater desert world. Of course this is just going by that trailer and other various info. All our sources could be misleading on purpose.

@Rieekan thank you so much! Now excuse me as I watch this 30 more times (feel guilty for the first 20) and dissect it to the ends of the earth.

Edit: I think I might be joining the group that thinks Rey's mom may have promised Rey that her dad and/or family would find her...and they never did (whether or not this was intentional or because her father didn't know she was even alive (lost in a shuffle after an accident or never met her at birth)).

I don't know why people are surprised at these turn of events, I just wonder if her parnets are dead, that would be really sad.

I love that she can talk with BB8. I guess that should have been considered a given, but I didn't take that for granted. Something old made new again. I love it.

I kind of like the idea that both Rey and Finn are so orphaned, they don't even have proper names, and yet they are the heroes, and it's the Skywalker kid who is the villain.

But I kind of hate the idea that Rey isn't Jaina.

    The conflict...

Umm yeah, I'm thinking unrelated or Rey Skywalker now. The whole build up about her family just doesn't feel right if she meets her dad in act 1 without recognizing him and sees her mom at the end super briefly before leaving. Maybe the film will surprise me, but I just can't see the Rey Solo scenario right now.

In the Japanese trailer, Daisy pronounces "Rey" a bit strangely, doesn't she? Sounds more like "Rai".

    Might just be her accent.
