Daisy has said in an interview we will know who Rey'sparents are. It will be answered.

On a side note;What is the connection between Kylo and Rey?

He does not kill her in the forest. He threatens and interrogates her yet he lets her live.

There's a giant spoiler about Rey in the Japan D23 Trailer thread if anyone's interested. It's not the trailer, it's something else. About her parents.

 

Seems like the time line that I understand is generally accepted is that, the Maz speech comes from the middle of the movie when Rey and crew show up. The speech though at the end of the trailer would seem to be appropriate for the end of the film. As the line would infer someone thinks hope is lost, like some tragic event happens to make everyone think the galaxy is screwed, but she is redirecting them. That is to compare to a line where Maz would be sort of revealing that there is more the Rey and/or Finn.

Maybe Maz is present with either a closing shot of Liea and the resistance or with Luke?

 

i think its quite possible she may be the one thing Luke would surrender for, or come out of hiding for. shes the galaxy's last hope. Kylo Ren is ending the Jedi/ Skywalker bloodline. Reys capture is bait. if she dies, luke really is the last of the jedi.

 

Perhaps, but it mirrors Leia comforting Luke after the death of Obi Wan. Hope seems lost at the end of Act 2, traditionally.

 

They couldn't find an American?

Daisy is great and all...but that accent is conflicting with me...

Well....it sounds English to me. And I say they should have gone American.

Heroes should be American and Villains should be English.

 

I find it pretty weird that John Boyega doesn't use his British accent, but Daisy Ridley does. Something tells me there is a reason for that within the story. Also I think it makes it more likely she's not Han and Leia's kid.

 

Peter Weller and Alice Eve had entirely different accents in Star Trek Into Darkness. Their roles were father and daughter.

 

accents get picked up easily, accents don't insinuate from were & where from.

 

I agree with that on face value, but if there was absolutely no significance (film-wise) they wouldn't have changed an English actor's accent to American and Daisy's natural English accent to RP.

 

Yeah....it's a bit odd having your parents talk to you in an american accent but you talk back in an english one...

 

Don't worry, by the time they're through with her, she'll be talking like her American-accented relatives.

I think the evolution of her accent will reflect her journey. Right now it reflects her privileged birth and early years, but she will become a hero Jedi, like her uncle. Leia did the same thing, only more quickly.

If my theory is right, Rey spent time in hiding with her parents, among other people who might have been of posh circumstances.

The MSW script called them the Clan, but that doesn't mean they were primitive or poor. The leader of the clan was wealthy and prosperous. One of them may have gone with her to Jakku and been her guardian for a time

After these early years, she ended up on Jakku where she basically went into the witness protection program.

In universe, some think they gave her that accent to show she was from the core worlds.

I think the Daisy accent is definitely a plot point... When Driver says "Destiny" it sounds British! ..... keep in mind Leia sounded vaguely Brit at start of IV.

 

I'm wondering if Daisy crying shot is her looking up at Luke... and the fallen character on the ground in front of her is in fact all 3!... Finn, Han, Chewie!
