You know, the bad guys in the Kentucky-based TV series Justified were pretty bad. But very polite when they killed someone.

It's an interesting juxtaposition.

 

I think they gave Rey a 'posh' British accent to highlight how out of place she is on Jakku. That is not the voice of a woman who belongs on a desert planet scavenging for junk. She's meant to be elsewhere.

 

I like that idea although I think people are far too hung up on this accent thing. I would just say though you can here the 'training' in her voice. It is different to how she normally speaks. Maybe me been british it makes easier for me to hear this change.

 

There's probably an app for that in the GFFA.

In the new trailer, you see Rey going inside a Star Destroyer. Now what I'm wondering is when it's time to leave, how does she find her way back to where she entered? Star Destroyers are massive.

 

Interesting. Her delivery with the "How would I know? I'm just a scavenger" line seems really awkward. Hopefully that's just for the toy and not what's in the movie. Then again context is everything. We are getting this from a six in plush doll.

I'm curious about the thief line. I wonder who that'll be.

 

Cute toy. I think it maybe the character that Simon Pegg plays or Teedo. They are probably trying to pinch BB8, that is why BB8 becomes loyal too her?

 

After the trailers I am starting to think that we will not have any problems with acting, one of the points that i dislike the PT. Ridley and Boyega seems to be very good actors.

 

Wow, some folks really have a bad ear for accents I guess. Driver is not British, it's his normal American accent run through a synthesizer. Some words are going to sound funny because of the voice modulator, but his accent is completely 100% NOT British. Daisy's first line ever uttered was already plain as day British, specially RP. You can hear a noticeable difference between her Rey accent and her real life interview accents.

Leia's accent in the Tarkin scene can be described as mid-Atlantic, basically how upper class Americans talked in the early 20th century. Not quite British either. That may have been intentional or just Carrie Fisher being unable to do a British accent. Probably the latter since they never used it or referenced it every again.

 

Are you British yourself? I am but I've been thinking maybe because I am I can hear the difference straight away. Maybe its because am sensitive to the accent, I can pick up the difference a lot quicker compared to an international audience? Just a theory I might be talking out of my ass about this.

 

What is interesting is just after Rey says "for my family", we see Tie's, the FO, and Kylo Ren! Here comes her brother? I think there is a heavy dose of symbolism here. Nothing is by accident!

 

bb8 says something in between rey's words. "im waiting" then bb8 says something only rey can understand so we dont know if she is saying two different things

 

Funny! I came here to talk about the accent and it's currently being discussed. Sorry I've been a bit behind on my SW chatter lately. Doesn't Daisy's accent indicate an upbringing on Corescant? (I know it's spelled wrong...just fought with my phone for too long). Wild speculation: The Jedi Temple was at one point back on the capital again?

Rey is front and center in the official poster, trailer and international trailer. Good thing that KK put the debate to rest.
