Leia could feel her estranged husband die from a few light years away, could feel her brother any time he got into trouble but couldn't feel if her daughter had been killed or was still alive? Wouldn't recognize her by sight, sound or the Force when she met her again? No.

Unbelievable how Little we can tell from the movie, novel, and script....

But ponder this --- So, han dies before learning that his daughter is "still alive"?
this is why i am at... roughly... 0%.
    Lol.

Padme died without ever getting to know her children.

Han in terms of biological function is the Original Trilogy's Padme to the Skywalker bloodline. An outsider that contributes to the next generation bloodline.

It's also possible he had suspicions about her being a force user. Trying to get her to join up with him was curiosity/wishful thinking. Testing Rey's relationship to the Force at Maz's place was a bigger test.

Leia is Force sensitive. Luke is a trained Jedi. Luke could easily decieve Leia if he felt it was necessary.

Although that's gonna be a hell of an awkward conversation when she asks him why he kept her own daughter from her. Thanksgiving at the Skywalker's is going to suck.

Because a. the "objects contain Force echoes/energy" is already canon and had been for some time, b. building your own lightsaber is a rite of passage for a Jedi, and c. it'd be really underwhelming for her to be stuck using a hand me down (especially after Luke got to make himself a cool new one in ROTJ).

No. Move on. The movie/marketing trolled you into thinking she would be a Solo and pulled the rug from under. They're not going to troll back to the original troll.

From the WGA script which Pablo Hidalgo confirmed is legit:

If she's his daughter, he believes she's dead but felt something about Rey he just never got a chance to confirm - hence the notable qualifier word there: "maybe".
The part in the script earlier where Rey was finishing his sentence was meant to be something that Han noticed and made him wonder at her identity:

I think Leia might have figured it out when she saw her, and she'd have plenty of good reasons not to reveal it to Rey at that juncture.

This part here is described as a first meeting only from Rey's perspective (she doesn't remember her of course). From Leia's, it is a mother's embrace.

Also of interest, I thought, was this line from the script when Kylo begins to read her mind in the interrogation:
It's interesting that it's a mutual recognition of ~something, and not simply just Kylo recognizing the Force in someone. And for some reason it makes them feel like they aren't adversaries for a second. >.>

Do you think they would work as a merge in to the new 8-9 or possibly the next trilogy to come?

So...on my most recent viewing...I made sure I payed really hard attention to the flashbacks.

    My thoughts...

Kylo begins approaching her....cuts to scene of her as a kid dropped on Jaaku, with a mechanical voice in which I can't remember what it said.

Was she there? Did KYLO grab her and drop her on Jaaku? Did Luke save her and take here there to protect her from the Knights of Ren and the First order?

I feel like these scenes are incredibly important. Luke hides..and R2 goes quiet...when does R2 awake? When Rey finds out she can use the force. Was that the trigger? The scene shows Luke with R2...like he is telling him, "R2...make sure she finds me when she inevitably ends up with the Resistance and learns she can use the force and needs additional training"

These aren't theories or anything...just my thoughts as I saw the sequence of visions...I want to go download a cam copy of the movie just to watch that part over and over, since we won't get to buy blu ray until spring.

Anyone else have different or additional thoughts about the lightsaber flashes?

Saw the movie for the sixth time tonight and each time, it just amazes and pleases me that we now get to see a new trilogy with an exquisitely beautiful woman as the hero and main character. I am really going to enjoy this one.

It's interesting that whether you think Rey is a Skywalker, Solo, or no one that who can create a credible argument. I think it was carefully crafted that way

Yes, you can think she's anyone, because she's no one.

    Think about it --
All the evidence that each group have gathered.... It all amounts to "strange looks" or "feelings" or things that are asked and not answered in the film. Like Maz saying "who's the girl?" And then Han telling her off screen.
Each camp is taking this moment and useing it in their argument.

Why does Maz ask who Rey is?

The long and short of it is that WE the audience are meant to feel that Rey is special.
Each character in the film feels a connection to her, because she is supposed to be on this journey.

I honestly feel, even AFTER reading the script, that JJ left it completely up to Rian to decide who Rey is.
But my personal opinion is that he has made it incredibly hard to retcon her into being a Organa/Solo child.
    Just my opinion.

Doesn't Rey's accent eliminate the Solo theory? Her accent is no accident. It would suggest we don't know who her mother is at this point. Luke is still in the picture, but it seems that the Solo's are a bit of a longshot.

I don't see how it would. Accents don't really tell you who your parents are, rather who you grew up around.

    New Theory!
I think I figured it out now....

Luke and Lor San Tekka's daughter (yet to be revealed) are Rey's parents.

In Rey's vision, she see's Luke Skywalker who is cremating a body (of Rey's mother), who has been killed by Snoke or Kylo Ren (there are also a group of Knights Of Ren in her vision). After the cremation, Luke puts Rey into his old ally Lor's care and mind wipes her for her safety. Luke then gives Lor a map section and instructs R2-D2 to power down until the time is right, as R2 contains a vast galactic map inside his memory. Luke does not have the appetite to memory-wipe R2-D2 as he is an old friend whose personality he might permanantly erase too. Luke leaves and goes goes into exile on Ahch-To.

Rey then grows up and drifts off into a life of scavenging and not knowing her true name, or hiding it as "a big secret". She assumes the name of an X-Wing pilot, Captain Dosmit "Raeh" whose helmet she has found and kept and has become a fan of. She also makes a small doll of him too, a kind of surrogate father figure as Rey is a very lonely character. She knows somehow that one day, her family will fly back to Jakku to retrieve her. . .
    ;)

It just seems odd that the producers would make Rey use a “Coruscanti accent” and then it not have anything to do with her parents.
