I would like to see it because I don't remember that. Espesically when she's stated as noone on the trailer.

Didn't they say that we were supposed to know about her origins in Ep VII ?

A lot of people have already posted brilliant Rey-thesis here.
Therefore it could be a repetition when I, for the last time, try to summarize my wishful thinking when it comes to Reys background.
I would love to get surprised by Rey being a female hero with some similarities to Anakins origins but also with remarkable differences from his story.

Rey should come from nowhere special, also in bloodline. A "underdog" that nobody had on his radar. Noone herself included expected her to become a significant factor, except the living force itself. But the unexpected happens and a tough girl in the middle of nowhere gets involved in the big game and the force chooses her to come out of the shadows. Not from birth, like Anakin. Just because she is the right girl at right place at a special moment when the force chooses to help and guide her. Of course she always had the right "force antennas" sleeping inside her all the time without knowing it.
The force infuses her, awakes her, but she has no meaning what that really means until she gets to the last mentor who is able to teach her on a planet where the very first Jedi began to become full awareness of the force that flows through every being. After all this years Luke Skywalker gets his last chance to pass on everything he knows to Rey, a girl with the strengh and power to save the galaxy once again.

If you're talking about Kathleen Kennedy's comment referring to the difference between Saga Films and Anthology films, the "focus" on the Skywalker family saga, that can be accomplished through Kylo, Leia, and Luke. It's not really a departure, just a difference in interpretation on what is needed to represent "focus".

Once it became obvious that Rey wasn't Leia or Han's daughter, everyone assumed (and perhaps hoped) that Rey was Luke's daughter. I'm just pointing out that not only is it not necessary to the storyline, the exact opposite could be true, and still be consistent with her statements. I guess we'll have to see how they plan to play it. In many ways, it's safer to just make her Luke's daughter (since so many people are expecting it, and it would explain a lot) but I'm not sure if they'll go for the "gotcha" twist instead.

I think I heard that as well, that Rey's father was someone that we already know from the SW universe. A lot of people to pick from in that case.

    @littlepadawan91 @Bandini

i wouldn't get too worried just yet. it's the journalist on the piece who is drawing that conclusion:

"We're going to make sure that that answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying," Trevorrow promised, avoiding addressing any specific theory. "Rey is a character that is important in this universe, not just in the context of The Force Awakens, but in the entire galaxy," he elaborated. "She deserves it. We'll make sure that that answer is something that feels like it was something that happened a long time ago, far away, and we're just telling you what happened."

That said, the 39-year-old director seemed to confirm that Rey’s father is, in fact, someone we have already met. “What's interesting is I'm not creating a host of new characters,” he revealed. “I have a lot of characters that people really love that we're going to make sure are all honored. No one's going to be left behind.”
see the bolded words. nothing the director says implies this explicitly.
he's working with a cast of characters two movies deep into the ST, so of course he's not creating a host of new characters.
they've already been created for him, first of all, and secondly when he says he'll "make sure that the answer is something that feels like it was something that happened..." well, that to me sounds like it could be coming out of left field, but they're hoping it will resonate as totally organic.

read into it what you will. that's how it strikes me.

if Colin said that in the context of Rey's origins, then I can understand why the reporter read it that way. But if it's a completely unrelated quote, then it probably just means that there will be no new characters in Ep. IX

I was surprised that in the options for the poll "Who is Rey?" we cannot select more than one option: a Skywalker AND a Kenobi. In Forrest Gump's words: "I think, maybe it's both are happening at the same time" .
I believe there could also be one character of the SW Rebels series involved: the mandalorian Sabine Wren, which I believe is the daughter of Obi-Wan and the Duchess Satine of Mandalore. Sabine is one year older than Luke. Remember that in Episode VI, Rey shows a great fascination with the rebellion, perhaps a side that comes from her mother.
The following video explains the theory

I like this theory because it connects The Clone Wars and Rebels (potentially Rogue One) with the new trilogy.
Let me know what you think.

Requoting this theory again. I'm glad to see someone else was already starting connecting the dots. And a few more dots have been revealed in SW Rebels season 2. In the episode "The Protector of Concord Dawn", when confronted by other Mandalorians, Sabine Wren says belonged to the House Vizsla, meaning the traitor faction group called “Death Watch”, and she acknowledges this by saying “my mother was”. Was she really referring to her real mother or her adoptive mother? In Star Wars, the folks that raise you normally don’t share your bloodline. So, perhaps, her bloodline is related to a powerful Mandalorian who had to hide her feelings due to politics.
I like this theory as it nicely connects both The Clone Wars and SW Rebels with Rey and the new trilogy.

Satine Kryze was introduced in The Clone Wars series season 2, and we know she and Obi-Wan Kenobi were very close friends, to a point that in one episode Anakin refers to her as Kenobi’s girlfriend, just to tease his master. Kenobi once said to Satine that he could have left the Jedi Order had Satine asked. That adds more spice to the theory. We know she died prior to Episode III, to be more precise, in Season 5 of Clone Wars, episode 16, “The Lawless” (one of the most dramatic episodes of the entire series, because it includes possibly the best Sith vs Sith duel). This episode is critical to understand the link in this theory. Kenobi went out of his way and against the Jedi Council to go to Mandalore and save the Duchess. She recommends Kenobi to contact her sister for help, to which Kenobi replies “what sister?” Then, when Satine died in Kenobi’s arms, she used her last words to reveal her true love for him. Kenobi later confirms that Satine was survived by her sister Bo-Katan, who came to save Kenobi, and in the process she displayed fighting skills similar to those of Sabine Wren in Rebels!

What if Satine gave birth to Kenobi’s daughter without Kenobi’s knowledge, to protect his career in the middle of Clone Wars? Who could have raised the daughter if Satine was dead? Aunt Bo-Katan would be the logical choice because the two sisters reconciled at the end. But why Sabine 16 years later mentions the traitor house Vizsla? There is a connection…

In Clone Wars, Pre Vizsla was the leader of the Mandalorian group called Death Watch, and in the previous episode “Shades of Reason”, it is clear that Bo-Katan was the second-in-command to Pre Vizsla. That is to say, she used to be at odds with her sister Satine. But in the aftermath of Pre Vizsla’s death, it is implicit that Bo-Katan is the new leader of this faction, and the reconciliation with her sister was fully explicit.

This could explain three things: after the fall of the Duchess and the collapse of the Mandalorian world, (1) Bo-Katan may have been in charge of raising Sabine. (2) Bo-Katan introduced Sabine to the house Vizsla, ensuring she will be protected for the coming years. (3) Sabine learned fighting skills and Mandalorian customs from her surrogate mother…

More details of this theory (with pictures) can be found in the YouTube link that I posted earlier.

May the Force be with this theory.

Satine died without children. And if she and Kenobi had sex he wouldn't be surprised to hear that she loved him. Then he would have leave the order as he said in a CW episode.

    This.

Also, Sabine's mom was part of Death Watch which would rule out Satine as her mother. I think it is possible that Sabine's mom was Satine's sister and it is not likely Obi Wan hooked up with her.

I also don't think we are going to see any significant tie-ins of Rebels and the ST. Only small things like the crossguard saber Ezra holds in the mid season trailer.

    Huh?! This?:

That said, the 39-year-old director seemed to confirm that Rey’s father is, in fact, someone we have already met. “What's interesting is I'm not creating a host of new characters,” he revealed. “I have a lot of characters that people really love that we're going to make sure are all honored. No one's going to be left behind.”

What part of that says we have met Rey's parents before?
That to me suggests the interviewer has made on heck of an assumption based off Trevorrow saying that he wants to develop the original legends. I don't see that he connecting with Rey's folks. I mean, we essentially know that we haven't met Rey's mum. Unless she is Leia or Phasma. Which she isn't! So we haven't met her!

What I find more interesting is how he replies: "We're going to make sure that that answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying," after being directly asked (it seems) whether Rey is the daughter of Luke. By answering it in that way, to me, suggests the answer is in fact not Luke. You're not making something profoundly satisfying by having Rey be, as expected by many, to be the daughter of Luke. To make it satisfying, in my view, suggests they are coming up with new characters, a new origin story, that will be as profoundly satisfying as being the daughter of Luke Skywalker.

Why not, if most people expect Luke to be Rey's father and invest in that probability it will be immensely satisfying for that particular category of the audience. If they would suddenly turn up with someone else, that 75% who thinks she is Luke's daughter will hardly be satisfied :)

they won't use EU canon for those kind of reveals. It must be explained by the context of the other saga movies only.

    Slightly off topic...

I agree with this... movie writers are concerned with making the best movie possible. They don't care about TV shows. This has been an issue with Marvel's TV shows. The promise with a show like Agents of Shield was that they'd introduce characters and stories into the universe that would be used in the movies. Unfortunately that's never happened. It's the other way around with the movies driving everything. That's fine for some I suppose, but I was hoping LucasFilm would attempt to work more of the other stuff into the films. Unless there's a huge change coming in Episode VIII the other properties (books, comics, TV) are all just filler.

Until there's a change I think it's safe to assume that new characters debuted on TV are simply role players with minor influence on what's happening in the films.

Agree with the possibility of last point: that perhaps the producers of Rebels may only want to play us with these hints to Episode VII. But still, I like to advocate for this theory and try to believe that there is a "higher-level plan" to connect the TV series with the movies. It could be a good corporate move from Disney to increase the ratings in Rebels and boost DVD orders of season 1 & 2. Of course, the risk of this master plan is that the non-disclosure agreement of Episode VIII should also include individuals who are not the movie production, but in the TV series as well. That may be the reason.

Back to the theory. It's not explicit in CW that Satine didn't have children. Think about the nice parallels between Sabine & Luke:
    • Fathers were powerful Jedi knight (Kenobi & Anakin)
    • Mothers used to be the rulers of a planet (Satine of Mandalore & Padme of Naboo)
    • Parents kept love in secret.
    • Mothers were killed by a Sith lord (Darth Maul & Vader)
    • Their births and true bloodline are kept secret
    • Raised by aunt & uncle (Bo-Katan + we-don't-know-yet & Beru+Owen)
    • Aunt was at odds with mother's ideals (Bo-Katan with Satine) ; uncle was at odds with father's ideals (Owen & Anakin)
Probably, that would be too good to be true.
