Why your speculation might be true, I don't think she is a Jedi on a mission or that the staff is hiding a lightsaber (just my opinion). What we do know about her is that she is a solitary scavenger on from the war torn planet of Jakku. Most of us pretty safely assume that she is at least force sensitive. Jakku is likely not the most friendly of places if it is a downtrodden, war torn planet. It makes perfect sense that she would have to learn to protect herself and her weapon would be something she would have to scavenge together such as the staff we see her carrying. Also given her Force sensitivity (and the likelihood that she is very strong in force), it would not be at all impossible for her to become a very proficient fighter as she could be subconsciously using the force when she fights.

You make a great point. She could be using the force without knowing it. I disagree but it's a good point.

The battle of Jakku will have taken place 29 years before TFA so not sure how war torn it still is. I would think it would have recovered. Also, although she could have made a staff weapon why would she? I don't know, but I assume based on the fact that most people have a blaster, they are abundant and cheap. If that's so why make s staff? Blaster is more efficient and less likely to get you attacked. I would think a girl with a stick is a bigger target than a girl with a blaster.

The other issue I have is if she is just an orphan with the force we have that story right now. His name is Ezra and his story is being told via Rebels. In fact if the rumors are true and the Jedi did not come back or came back and left again TFA is sounding a lot like Rebels. I don't think we are getting Ezra's story in the TFA. Just my humble opinion.

 

Just about everyone in the PT the clone wars, rebels, and the OT had a blaster. Unless they were rounded up I beg to differ. It is apparent the SWU is the old west where everyone is packing. The pic of the "pirates" shows lots of blastsrs too. The only people not packing a blaster where the Jedi, and Kanan and Luke carry both.

 

That's fair but we haven't seen to much of it. Also according to rumor the new order has a fight with a village and they have blasters.

 

Rey's staff is simple... it is just a giant-space-pig prod she uses to get the creatures to drag her salvaged junk around for her. We already saw this in the concept art. When she gets in a scrape with another junker, she uses it to knock them silly. Once she gets off planet, she will eventually need another weapon though...

 

That weapon will be Luke Skywalker's lightsaber.

 

Honest to God I'm going to laugh myself silly if Rey doesn't become a Jedi! Luke makes the offer to train her and she'll be like: "Jedi? You mean that weak @ss group that was totally deceived by the dark side of the Force and then with one command got slaughtered by the very troops they were leading? Why the heck would I want to become a Jedi?!"

 

You would be laughing even more if Finn desperately wants to be a Jedi and begs Luke to train him only for him to turn him down and says that he will only train Rey because she is the Chosen One.

 

Finn knows his place it's not being a jedi, Rey will off course be a jedi.

Notice the concerned expression (in the eyes especially) really reminds me of Luke looking up at Jabba before being "executed"

That is right. If Finn wants to be a Jedi he will be way over on his head. Rey will put him in his place as well.
