After much fun and debate, there are several posters in several camps who shall not be budged. So much the better!

This thread is where we can declare our picks and then participate in the sig bet. The winning team gets to pick the sig for all of the other teams, who have to use it for 3 months after there is a final confirmation.

I am clearly going with Rey Skywalker, for reasons detailed in the Official Thread.

(note - this is for fun...feel free to joke on me or on others theories, but keep it friendly. We are all fans of the same films, after all)

    Random.

No choice from the dark side ? Obviously the movie suggests it.

There's an option missing in the poll; that she's a Palpatine.

I was including Chosen One for that - whether it was light or dark side, that the force created her. Good point!

I was thinking more from two people from the first order as she has a parallel path from Kylo. The opening scenes are opposites. One dark with a character coming from the light to the dark ( Ben Solo ) and one light scene with a character living in the empire's wrecks and having a dark / light path ( Rey ).

None of the above. Rey is the lab-nurtured offspring of a cellular union of Anakin Skywalker and the Emperor.

For the longest time I wanted her to be a SkywalkerKenobi (=>Luke as father and a descendant of Kenobi as mother).

But I really dig the Palpatine theory, too. I like this theory because then an offspring of darkness (Rey) would fight against an offspring of light, who is using the dark side (Kylo Ren).

I'm squarely in the Kenobi camp, so much so that I've started a high-stakes bet in the Casino. Come on over, I dare ya'll! (https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet....y-is-revealed-as-a-kenobi-in-sw-ep-viii.9381/)

Now, Rey is obviously not Obi-wan's daughter, unless there is some cloning or frozen sperm plot involved somehow (or a resurrection plot followed by some necrophilia action - after all, Obi-wan died decades before Reys birth), but I do believe she is related to him somehow. It MIGHT just be that the role she plays in TFA is "related" to the role Obi-wan had in ANH, but I chose to interpret the blatant similarities as a movie-maker hint about her lineage. This is all fun and games, though, and if someone thinks my suggestion is absolutely ludicrous, then that's entierly fine with me :)

Great idea, but shouldn't this thread be in the cantina casino thread?

I'd say Rey is a Skywalker/Solo by way of Leia/Han. For everyone crying about Leia ignoring Chewie and hugging Rey at the end of TFA, there may just be a great reason for that. A great reason to bypass one of your best friends in times of loss is by moving to hug your daughter. At least I hope that is the case. The Star Wars galaxy is a big place, but that doesn't mean this episodic saga or the galaxy within is made smaller by the films following the Skywalker/Solo line. There are plenty of stories to be told about other force users in other manners, episodic or stand alone.

Bloodlines completely debunks this theory. Its told from Leia's POV and she makes no references to having any children other than Ben.

You're right 'Bloodline' has no mention of Rey, nor any thought by Leia of Rey, but does that in itself debunk anything? No, not completely. No doubt it would seem to imply that Rey is a complete stranger, or it's easy to infer as much by Rey's omission from Leia's thoughts. Though, that in itself is not totally conclusive as a possible stowed away daughter was not pertinent to the story Bloodline was telling.

Regardless of my hope that Rey is a Skywalker/Solo, her ending up being a non-Sky-Solo is highly likely, and I expect we'll conclusively learn about her lineage either way. I expect as much because we have learned the lineages of the primary main characters (Luke/Anakin) in the entire saga to this point. In this manner, though they are main characters in their own right, I assign Obi-Wan/Padme/Han Solo as secondary main characters. In the ST Rey definitely fills that Luke/Anakin role as the primary protagonist.

IMO it fits the story of the saga for Rey to be a Skywalker descendant, which doesn't mean it will come to pass that way, but the notion hasn't been debunked just yet.

Claudia Gray (author of Bloodline) doesn't know who Rey's family is.

I think Rey is a skywalker but not Luke's daughter...maybe someone who we've met before and someone we haven't thought of before .

Well it was a simple idea to be not-boring lol...but an idea to link to what I said...hmm...maybe a clone palpatine had created of Padme and kept in carbonite as a blackmail of sorts to keep Vader in line which he never was able to utilize with her being kept in carbonite on Jakku's military base and when it was de-commissioned she was let out and her natural force ability due to sidious using Anakin's partial DNA resulted in whoever was on Jakku to take care of her but they had to leave because the first order was looking for them as a fledging new empire so Rey was left with the last person anyone would think to protect her---the unwilling Unkar Plutt...the reason Maz says her family isn't coming back is because she never had family and is partially the reason why Ben finds her vision of Jakku due to her ability to utilize Anakin's saber crystal in that way.

She's Luke and Leia's aunt. She Anakins's half sister. They both had the same father.

Thus she's Kylo Ren's great aunt.

if you had Rey, Luke, Leia and Kylo's DNA tested then you'd find they were all related. However if you compared their all their DNA to Shmi's, only Luke, Leia and Kylo would be a match.

Luke's daughter, since it's the one that makes most sense, doesn't need mental gymnastics to digest it, and the story and the world of SW don't need to bend backwards and ruin their own rules (any reincarnation theory) to explain it. Plus, it leaves questions in its wake that tie up to what we've been offered until now: who's the mom (I don't see the now progressive LF to repeat another disaster like Padme -no name, no identity in the PT and when we learnt it, she had basically no personality-) and how come she's been on Jakku all this time.
