SPECULATION Other, surviving Jedi?

Discussion in 'General Sequel Trilogy Discussion' started by Trevor, Sep 15, 2016.

?

Are there "Other" surviving Jedi that we are not yet aware of?

  1. Yes, most likely.

  2. No, they've all been killed. There is only Luke.

  3. Undecided....could go either way.

Ok folks, this has been a long running debate about secretly surviving Jedi in various circles, and I just read something that may perhaps bolster the idea.

The debate is based on the fact that the Jedi were "All but extinguished" in the Galaxy (except for Kenobi and Yoda supposedly), but those that got the "Stay Away" transmission from the Temple after Order 66 that were never found...what about them?

Now, the second part: I just read this Canon article on Wookieepedia that suggests by its very wording that there were other Jedi students that survived the massacre at Luke's new Jedi temple, because it says that "many" of his students were killed but it does not say "ALL"....read it HERE.

Now, one may (and will) argue that WP can be edited by anyone which is true about "Wikipedia" but Wookieepedia is a different story. I am personal friends with a SW writer (FOR SW.com) that is a member of the WP editing staff and it is VERY difficult for just anyone to edit those listings as they are reviewed by the staff whom is alerted to any edits and must approve such edits, which are written by the staff...some of whom work for the SW universe.

    So here's this:
    1. Were there other Jedi that survived Order 66?
    2. Are there other Jedi/Padawan survivors from Luke's Academy?
    3. If Yes either way.....Will we see them in upcoming films?
    Thoughts?? Reasoning? Evidence?

    Interesting topic.

For sure! Some Jedi survived the massacre of Order 66 but they all were hunted down by the empire during the events of the OT. => Yoda to Luke: "[...]the last of the Jedi you will be."

I think some students survived. => Snoke: "If Skywalker returns the new Jedi will rise."
Probably, some Jedi were able to escape and yet others maybe joined Kylo Ren and the KoR.

If the "other" surviving Jedi are now members of the KoR, then yes, we will see them. If not? I don't know. :D

I would say "Yes!" to both ideas that were survivors from each massacre. The old EU was littered with Jedi who escaped Order 66 (which I found a little... tedious...), but it's possible that the current writers would pull from those ideas. I would hope that we wouldn't find out about who and how many survived considering there were thousands of Jedi at the time, but if it could be left a mystery, that would be really cool. Chances of seeing them in a film? It's possible, but that's also dependent on if any of Luke's Jedi survived.

I'm also not averse to the Academy Jedi being scattered or in hiding. I think it would be more reasonable to have a set number of students Luke was training, because I find it a little hard to believe he could have a hundred or more Jedi under his tutorage, with the exception of the older league of Jedi returning to become masters in their own right.
Anyway, I think it would be cool to see a film (TV show even) that takes place sometime between the OT and ST, or even during the events of the Sequels. It's an era we are crazing for right now (or at least, I am!).

I just don't think we should have two movies that both involve random, scattered Jedi after tragedies. Even though there are plenty of differences between the situations, thematically it's seems too similar. We already have a show about a Jedi after 66 (Rebels), so we would need a vastly different character for a film that takes place during the Dark Times. I just feel like we are a little oversaturated with post-PT/pre-OT stories, so I would prefer to see one of Luke's Jedi doing something neat, whether that's working with the Resistance or striking out of his/her own.

Well... so far as we know:

So far we know a padawan (Kanan) and a rogue padawan (Ahsoka) survived ROTS. We have some other that might have survived further as well, obeying Kenobi's beacon but they might have gotten lured to the traps set up by Vader and his inquisitors (like the one with master Luminara) and succumbed. We have this mysterious prisoner killed by Eneb Ray at Sunspot Prison who mentioned have killed Jedi.

It would be interesting to find out that yeah, there were survivors.

I recall mentioning on another thread that it might depend on which kind of Jedi academy Luke had. Was it like a secluded monks order? Or was it some sort of galactic Hogwarts where students were able to go back and forth to their places of origin or maybe to go on missions looking for more Jedi lore? Maybe if they found out their peers were killed and their master vanished, they might be still hiding. After all, that massacre might have happened pretty much recently - no more than 6 years before TFA.

Hope so! I guess it is way more probability on seeing any potential survivors from the Jedi Academy massacre than from Order 66, but if there is any chance Ahsoka is still alive around ANH-ROTJ or even later on I won't complain at all!! Lol.

I remember hearing a while ago that there were something like 10,000 jedi, including padawans, knights, and masters, before the Order 66 and in 19 years, with vader being mainly the one to personally hunt the all down and with the reversal of the retreat code in the temple I would think there would be AT LEAST 15% - 20% of all jedi left in the galaxy by the time of the OT. What if we didn't see them because Leia was secretly trying to recruit them with Obi-Wan's help before he died which is why she needed his help so badly. Maybe Luke even tried to find them if they were still alive after ROTJ. The survival of Luke's new academy is pretty much dependent on how many jedi he was trining/if they were fully-trained/or whatnot. And maybe the old survivors helped the new generation but those are a LOT of bodies in that massacre flashback. So far the only surviving jedi we have seen is Ben.

We do know that, thanks. I am talking more about the period between ROTJ and TFA. Probably she was done in Malachor but in any case that she survived, went into reclusive mode until Palpatine and Vader were gone, what if she sensed her master again and Luke found her and she helped him in some way to set up his Jedi Academy? I know it is a way big speculation here but we don't know yet.

But she was still trained as a jedi...maybe thats become more of a blanket term due to the lack of actual jedi from the order because,
That's if she hasn't even died from natural causes .

What do the novels tell about this ?

I think Luke is the last jedi, there is no more of them.

So far the novels are silent about it.

And yeah, it throws me off since I think about Yoda's statement about Luke being "the last of the Jedi" but since we are in this "from a certain point of view" universe where something seems one way and it ends up being a different thing, I don't know what the Story Group might come up with.

Don't know about the novels but everything else says that he is "the last of the Jedi" which COULD mean that there are others but he is the only "New" Jedi as far as Yoda knew (just speculating). Also is has been said that the Jedi were "All but extinct" which means "Nearly" but not completely....we could debate that for YEARS.

Nowhere have I seen any references that state "all of the Jedi are dead and the only Jedi alive is Luke Skywalker". It just seems that everything that has been written and/or conveyed to the audience in some form has been very thoughtfully worded to exclude that reference. I know that if I meant for you to understand that if Luke were the only one left, I'd say that...just like that, but as I said before, Nowhere have I seen or heard it expressly stated in those absolute terms.....only alluded to without actually saying it.

I'd say the opening crawl of TFA ("Luke Skywalker has vanished. In his absence, the sinister FIRST ORDER has risen from the ashes of the Empire and will not rest until Skywalker, the last Jedi, has been destroyed.") implies strongly that he's the only Jedi alive, but you're right--there's wiggle room if TPTB really want another remaining Jedi somewhere that we don't know about.

My guess is that there could be those out there (similar to Ahsoka, Kanan, etc.) still alive who had Jedi training under the old formal Jedi system but are not strictly considered Jedi. The same could go for those who were in Luke's new not-academy, who somehow escaped the destruction. However, my impression from Bloodline was that there were only a few people in Luke's not-academy to start with, as it wasn't a formal "school"-type arrangement but rather more of a gathering of "disciples," as it were.

Not trying to switch the conversation...but if you had the option, do you want to find out about another Jedi? Or would you rather have Luke be the last one?

Depends on which timeframe you ask.

Post-ROTJ? Of course I'd be more than happy to have Kanan, Ezra and Ahsoka around. Don't know how that can be justified, how come they didn't appear on the main events from ANH to ROTJ but there might be a way.

Post-TFA? Not sure. Maybe FS people who was under training and went to hiding since their master vanished and the First Order started rising.

Like Maz Kanata? I personally feel that leading up to and after TFA Luke being the only one makes the story more personal.

Post ROTJ we already know of Yoda, Ben, Kanan, Ezra, and Ahsoka I have no doubt that more will come out of hiding,

Personally I just don't want more Jedi for the sake of having Jedi, I want them to have an actual meaningful story.

I would rather have Luke be the last Jedi. That makes Yoda's words in the OT make sense and doesn't need a whole lot of extrapolating and "certain point of view" hand-waving attached to it.

However, I don't mind other people being FS or having a bit of training. But I really prefer Luke to be the one guy who's a full-fledged Jedi. (And I wouldn't mind if he changes things up a bit in how he "passes on what he's learned" from how Jedi did it in the past. But that's a whole 'nother topic. ;))

Honestly...really...I'd like to have the reveal that there were more...even just a few that knew of Luke, who he was, and waited for him to emerge when the time was right. To perhaps have them in a group (5 or 6) and approach Luke....then reveal themselves. That's me...

As time went on, I just believed less and less that Luke could've been the only one left....doesn't seem realistic enough, but rather more convenient for the story. :)

Personally, as I have been watching TCW, I would definitely love that Luke meets Ahsoka or some other remaining not-fully trained Jedi that could help him to start his Jedi Academy. Or maybe Kanan left the fight for any reason and came back when the Empire was defeated. I don't know, maybe it's me finding these characters so endearing that it's hard to believe they were no more around by the time the DS plans were stolen...
