What does anyone know about Padme's back story? I've been thinking the last few days about how Anaikin was so hot to "stop all this hiding", but she was reluctant. Why? She sure seemed to be "along for the ride" on plenty of other things. Who taught her her sense of nobility? And how did she become queen anyways? I assume her royal parents died, how?

Anything that's canon would be helpful

    Thank you

Hmmmm....interesting, thank you! A couple questions:

    1. Are deleted scenes canon? I only ask because if they didn't appear in the film, do they count?

    2. She's called senator in a few scenes. So I suppose she is queen of Naboo and senator of some coalition. Representing maybe Naboo and the gunguns? Others?

I realize these are logic based questions of a sci-fi space fantasy, and therefore ridiculous, ;-), but I was wanting to know anyways

    Thanks again!

from what i gather, the "monarchy titles" are actually just elected officials. she came from a well to do family and was able to enter the political ring at an early age...14. whoever would elect a 14 year old kid to represent them must be bonkers or not have to many choices...but whatever. i dont know if they are cannon or not but im thinking yes.

My understanding is that deleted scenes are not canon. In at least one case, if deleted scenes were canon then a certain Jedi from ROTS would have died several times in different ways. lol.

    But no, not canon.

Those scenes of Shaak Ti getting killed various ways (2 ways I believe), were explicitly declared as not being canon.

Regarding other deleted scenes, some of them can be up in the air but the way I see it (and this is my personal take), if a deleted scene doesn't contradict something that is in the movie itself or it doesn't already contradict something that was in a canon TV show, book, or comic, I will think of it as canon, until - if and when -some new body of work comes out that is canon and would contradict the details of a deleted scene.

Here is some more info about her from the book "Ultimate Star Wars" (which is canon info btw). It contains some snippets of her background:

Which is too bad, because those deleted scenes at Padme's house and her interactions with her parents actually ADD to the love story btw Padme and Anakin. It makes it a much more believable love story. You watch some of these deleted scenes and you wonder how some scenes made the cut and the deleted ones didn't.

It also further proves to me that Lucas would have been better served with a director's cut than a special edition.

Thank you, very informative! So...Amidalia isn't even her name, she adapted it as official when she rose to office. That makes me want to reconsider all the code name stuff. Does anybody just call themselves whatever they want whenever they want?! Sheet palpatine=emperor=darth sidious, anakin skywalker=darth Vader, Obi-wan=Ben, liea Skywalker=Liea oragana! On that last note, Luke DIDNT change his name and nobody found him until he left tattooine!

    Much to contemplate, this is...

Her stomach is whoo-hoo in these scenes. (lightsaber)

Her real name is Padme Naberrie. I'm trying to get you her Canon history but for whatever reason it's bringing up something else. Go to this link and search Padme canon and you'll have her info.

Padme was not really a noble.
Queens are elected on Naboo every 4 years. ''Queen'' is just their version of President, basically.

    Padme's family scenes are canon.

    1. Her family appears in ROTS during the funeral. This implies that Lucas considered the scenes canon, just deleted.
    2. The characters appeared in a lot of official merchandise like the Visual Dictionary.

    The Naberrie family is canon.

Certain deleted scenes from the DVD are non-canon, yes, but they are over-rided in the films themselves (e.g. Shaak Ti appears after her deleted 'death'). But if Padme's family appears in the finished product, the implication is that they exist and their history is canon.

I may be misunderstanding you. It sounds like you're saying that if they appear at all, then everything about them - deleted scene or not - is canon. This is not so. It's true, the family exists. But that's all we know about them. Other scenes shot for the films were cut from the story. If you didn't see it on-screen, it didn't happen.

(This has taken me forever to type on my tablet. This site is brutal on my iPad!)
