I see what you're saying about a big cast being a negative in character development, but SW movies have always been able to pull it off.

The one thing I love about SW is you can follow different characters and the movies could be about THEM.

Heck, you can watch 1-6 for Anakin Skywalker's arc. I choose not to not being a big fan of his character in the PT, so I watch the PT for Palpatine's arc and Kenobi's character. Growing up, the guys loved Luke or Han or Vader, and the girls liked Leia.

Thats what separates SW from everything else. If you watch a Superman movie, you HAVE to like Superman or you won't like the movie.

We may all walk out of Episode 7 caring about different characters and their journey for Episodes 8 & 9, and that is the beauty is that somehow each one of their stories will be just as relevant as another to each different viewer.

Spoken like a true fan! :) - To be clear, though, "negative" is too harsh a word; "different" is better. With most upcoming "new EU"(?) publications focusing on the OT era, we will likely get a "mothership" movie that introduces most of the post-RotJ retcon all at once, with the narrative expansions coming up later. That's a different kind of movie than, say, a character study of old man Luke Skywalker would be, but not necessarily a worse choice.

I think he is going to be the breakout star of the ST, as this guy comes off as very likeable. Other then Ewan McGregor, most of the actors in the PT just seemed to be going through the motions, whereas the ST cast WERE SW fans and genuinely love that they're a part of the new trilogy.

Hope not. This is Nopelandia turf owned by Twilight.

Also, what I don't like about such little cliche love triangles in films generally, it potrays the single female as either confused or a c0ck-teaser which gives the wrong message to young girls.

A love triangle doesn't have to be two guys falling for the same gal. How about a guy who likes a gal who likes another guy who is the first guys pal. I could TOTALLY relate to that, oh my stars....

The thing is, even if they don't do a love triangle, there will be a love triangle. It's just how shippers, tumblr, the internet and stuff works. If you made AotC today Obi/Padme/Anakin would be seen as a love triangle by many.

I think understanding Dameron's role may actually be part of the key to understanding this movie.

Generally speaking, the format for these films is that the conclusion is a conflict which can only be resolved if our heroes are either successful on a quest (delivering Artoo and the plans to the Rebels), or by making a discovery through their virtue which will reward our heroes later by helping tip the conflict in their favour (the Gungans, the clone army, the Ewoks, and the Wookiees in the original screenplay's early iterations).
The exceptions to this are TESB and ROTS - both end on a downbeat for our heroes and (again, generally speaking) work backwards by begining with a larger conflict before unravelling into personal confrontations and character developments.
(As a side note, for anyone who finds AOTC to be the weakest of the six films, the fact that Obi-Wan is coerced into making the all important discovery in the second act, and that the conflict we are building to is barely seen and is of no consequence, to anyone we are supposed to care about, at least, are probably the biggest contibuters to this...)

So, MakingStarWars recently mentioned in another thread that we don't know much about what Poe Dameron does in the second act.
It seems logical he could play a role in the opening act - but where does he go after that?
Does he tag along with Rey/Finn/Han/Chewie? The concept art seen/described doesn't seem to include him in this way. Is he not in a lot of those concepts because his character has at some point taken on some of the plot points intended to be carried out by Han?
Or does the fact that his X-Wing needs to be salvaged on "Tatooine" suggest he has always had an important mission of his own in this movie, running parallel to Finn/Rey's journey?
Or is he just not that important in the grand scheme of things - is he just a reliable old Wedge-type Rebel pilot?

What he is doing may dictate the structure of the whole movie.

Is he the one who turns up with the cavalry - the figurative Gungans/Clones/Ewoks of this movie - who turn the tide of some final conflict?
Does he have a McGuffin to find or deliver - a la the Death Star plans?
Or are we in for a downbeat ending (Rey's capture?) and he is just there to have his character fleshed out as personal journeys reach a pivotal point right at the end of the movie?
Is there a simultaneous duel-type scenario AND space battle at the end? Is there a space battle at all in this movie...?

A little tidbit about the reaction to the trailer, a few people were saying that Poe's face looks bruised. To me it looks like the dark spots under his eyes are shadows from the ridge in the middle of his yellow goggles.

I wonder, will Poe have a love interest in TFA?

My source has told me that the McGuffin will be a McMuffin. Take this with a pinch of salt, it's delicious.

Sorry I didn't go through this entire thread, but I wanted to ask: has anyone speculated that Poe is Han's son, and if so, what was the consensus?

I just find it odd that they are pictured together (Harrison, Oscar and JJ) and that Poe is already rumored to inherit the MF. I know it's too simple (2+2) but because of Disney's fascination with "royalty" and "heirs to royalty", the simplicity of it might be their pill.
