ok I will go against the grain here and say yes it will be there
but hopefully it is a throw away ala the schwarma for avengers
doesn't propel the story or tie anything up
just there for the people who sat through 30 minutes of credits

Can you imagine the outrage/controversy/holy****moment if after the credits are done rolling, the screen stays black and we only hear Palp's lightning and his laugh?

That, or Vader's breathing. Even if it turns out to be nothing, it would still make people go crazy until the next movie lol.

I think that the only way I could like a post credits scene is if Lando was in it, but even that is treading on thin ice.

Otherwise, yeah this would not be a wise move on Disney's part. It would show that they viewed the Star Wars brand and Marvel very similarly, and that they don't respect the differences and uniqueness of each franchise. One of my fears for Star Wars is dilution, and copy cat syndrome (if it hasn't already happened). Star Wars should make trends, not follow them.

    Bump.

I was going to make this thread, but here it is already.

I think there WILL be a post-credits teaser. It's beyond obvious with Disney's intentions to have spin-offs and one-offs and prequels and concurrent stories - just like the MCU which has worked extremely well.

While the Marvel Cin Uni pretty much perfected what its predecessors played around with, we see DC coming into its own and perhaps a few other studious not far behind.

I think Disney sees this and will operate similarly.

I don't think 'after-credit scenes' are Marvel IP, and pre-credit epilogue scenes are always a possibility. It doesn't have to be used to tease us for ep8 which is unnecessary, but I would REALLY, REALLY expect to see something for Rogue One which has some material from filming in Europe already.

Seeing as ep7 will act as a springboard into the new continuation and cinema renaissance/expansion of the Star Wars franchise, I think a pre or post credit scene to pimp R1 would be the smart thing to do.

Shame on you if you take issue 'because Marvel did it first' or 'it's just not Star Wars' lol snobs

More teasers are always welcome in my book. I'm not above getting excited over seeing a Rogue One flyby or something.

Also, will #ForceForDaniel or something similar be in the credits?

    DISNEY???

    No.

Disney isn't stupid enough to mess with the core of SW, so they will keep it simple enough, with any teasers and stuff for heir spin-offs and sequels/prequels will be included as some trailers before the film.
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 23, 2015 ---
Disney has to set SW apart from Marvel as a brand so I doubt hey will have an after-credits sequence because they can't cannibalize "looks" creatively speaking for various brands under the same house.

What is 'the core of Star Wars'?

Are we so elitist that we will complain about a teaser add-on?

You do realize the post credit scenes in Marvel movies have less, actually nothing, to do with the actual source material and IP than they do with being another form of MARKETING considering how the MCU stagers movies and spinoffs - the same as Disney aims to do with Star Wars?

Now, if we see Stan Lee piloting an X-wing....

I'll try to sneak out of the theater before the after-credits scene shows up. I want to let the movie digest and immediately watching an ad for another movie would interfere.

That's your prerogative. I would be delighted in a Rogue One flyby, and STILL be able to enjoy/digest the film I just saw.

What I mean, @PlagueisLivesDuh, is that we have a very specific brand/culture. There are footprints that make up what makes US, we'll...US. Same goes for Disney and same goes for Marvel. Having after-credits teasers are commonplace now, but not a part of the brand. Disney owning the entire universes can have a major impact on cross-branding and thematic elements. Our "core" can be compared to The Apple Philosophy.

I worry for some of you if a 15-30sec sneak peak throws you off of your train of thought over the 2+ hour movie you just watched.

I mean... how will you be able to drive home?

Well, I include MYSELF in the same group of fans. And while I find fan-boyism as cute as the next, I find this line of thinking flawed.

Is this the 'core' fans of a Star Wars that didn't advertise during the superbowl? (did you complain then as well?)
The core fans of a star wars that didn't have a Japanese-only trailers?
    The 'brand/culture' that didn't have a black/female lead?
The OT culture that didn't co-brand and merch everything and anything that had a fraction of the marketing budget?

I mean, it's almost as if there haven't been changes in studio expectations, how movies are marketed, movie-going appetite, and so forth.

The post-credit teasers are a brilliant move by Marvel, but they have nothing to do with the movies/Marvel's source material - that point cannot be stressed enough. Had Lucas had spinoffs and concurrent plot movies launching year after year he might have considered a similar device at the time. But now studios have grander plans and movies are staggered rather closely. The fact it is post-credit allows for a teaser that is somewhat disjointed from the movie plot but still in the same vein, hence they aren't epilogues that we have seen previously. This is almost entirely in part with how the expanded universe gets cinematized and all the material is overlapping. Again - EXACTLY like Disney plans to do with its other property, Star Wars.

And let's not put Marvel on a pedestal as some sacred cow. I mean, while entertaining, Marvel movies lack in substance that you can find in even other fantasies such as our beloved SWs. Let's also not mention Marvel has a long history of instances where they have imitated or outright stolen from other publishers, let alone their own artists/authors.

And while this is a brand new SW movie, it will undoubtedly have similarities with other contemporary films and in that includes the financial/marketing aspects of the film.

Lastly, Apple: EVERYTHING Apple has done successfully has been from lifting from existing technology/concepts and perfecting it for the masses. If you condone Apple's methodologies for business then you by default support Disney taking a good idea and perfecting it to make Star Wars king of the hill.

There is little use in being elitist about how Disney approaches credits, trailers, and marketing. If they were to miss a chance to give a CAPTIVE, TARGET audience a teaser for another franchise film, that would be a dear, possibly expensive miss considering ROR on costs of marketing.

So: before movie is fine but after credits gets booed? lol, OK, snobs

Disdain over delivery of some unexpected Rogue One footage? Talk about looking a gift tauntaun in the guts.
