Pretty simple idea for a thread. I'm surprised that I don't see it on this forum much. Rank all 6 Star Wars movies from best to worst in your opinion.

    My rankings:
    1 - Empire Strikes Back
    2 - A New Hope
3 - Return of the Jedi
4 - Revenge of the Sith
    5 - The Phantom Menace
6 - Attack of the Clones

    1.) Revenge of the Sith
    2.) The Phantom Menace
    3.) The Empire Strikes Back
    4.) A New Hope
    5.) Attack of the Clones
    6.) Return of the Jedi

The last two switch around from time to time depending on my mood. I love the ending of ROTJ (it used to be my favorite of all the movies even) but taking the whole movie into thought as a whole on recent viewings, it is usually my least.

Ok, so it is time for me to reveal how I rank the four episodes of Star Wars.

    1. Ep VII, The force awakens (TFA)
    2. Ep V, The empire strikes back (TESB)
    3. Ep IV, A new hope (ANH)
    4. Ep VI, Return of the jedi (ROTJ)

It's very close. As a child ROTJ was my favorite and I still love it. Had it been theatrical release ranking and not for the awful special editions I probably would have ranked ROTJ over ANH at least, but I just can't stand the new Max Rebo band. George Lucas lost his mind somewhere in the 80's, post Indy trilogy.

So there you have it. I look forward to the Bluray-release of TFA and Rogue 1 premiere this year, but simply can't wait for may 2017 when Rey, my favorite Star Wars character, returns. Good times!

I don't tend to rank the prequels at all as I personally don't care for them. I think they lessen the strength of ESB as the mystery around Yoda and Vader's characters are lost.

    6/5. ROTJ (7.8/10)
    7. TPM (7.1/10)

I know it's very specific, but I've been writing up very long reviews I hope to get done by April regarding each movie, as a very cumulative review of each. But those are, currently, the ratings I give them, though time can change them. AOTC and ROTJ have just recently flipped for me, because I have really paid more attention to Obi-Wan's Investigation and Anakin's Murder's, combined, more powerful than just Vader's Turn for me). And yes, I still rate TPM higher than a 7, because even today I find it refreshing and better made than garbage films like Twilight and Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part II. There was and always will be some magic in TPM, and podracing still shakes me as much as it did when I was a baby in the theater.

do you think the force awakens given time might be a climber? I've gone pretty much the same as you and some of the reason I'm bait hesitant to go higher with TFA is it just needs to stand the test of time?

Yes I do think it could go higher, but then it could also go lower. Right now there are still a lot of mystery surrounding the characters in TFA and everyone's imaginations are running wild at the possibilities. Once Eps. VIII and IX come out and those doors to possibilities are closed you will probably see the movie shift around on a lot of peoples lists. Time is one factor but I think context is another, will we look more fondly at TFA when we know all of Rey's backstory and we see her develop as a character? A similar situation is everyone's idea of the Force Pre-Prequel, "It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together" To me that is a strong idea, it leaves the possibilities open and endless, and for a long time that is how the force was viewed. Then when TPM came out and everyone's context of the Force shifted it closed a lot of doors for people and I think a lot of people became resentful because of it. The question I ask is, Will learning more about the new characters be helpful or detrimental to TFA? I guess it just depends on if we are happy with the answers we are given.

wise words, i to think a lot rests on the next two, but strong start nether the less.
I'm of the broad ambiguous definitions for the force school of though. "It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together" was enough.
i think these films have a lot of balancing to do because in a way they have to do some minor repairs as they go.
yeh any way more Yoda type philosophy than midiclorians.
