SPECULATION Recasting Leia

I would say Billie.

 

I wouldn't have any problems with recasting Leia. She needs to be a part of IX, especially for Kylo's story. I'm sure Carrie would've agreed with a recasting.

I want Cherry Jones as Leia:

 

Very possible. But she looks Leia enough for me, so I wouldn't use a CGI mask. I think Jones could pull it off. She is a good actress.

IF they recast Leia, it would only be for 9 anyways IMO, so I say go with the full CGI.
It didn't ruin RO and it wouldn't ruin 9.

I think performance matters over looking like her. It'd have to be someone who has that Carrie Fisher swagger

That said, as much as it sucks, write her off. If her death has to be off screen, so be it.

I love the idea of this thread. I personally wouldn't like to see another actor play Leia that would be too weird for me. There is only one Carrie Fisher and one Leia. Just my personal opinion.

However, if someone was to play a young Leia in a standalone, that's another story. The Han Solo standalone is a good example of how it could work.

Agreed. I was SUPER hyped when I saw the back of her but then I was like ...nah that's taking it too far when they actually showed her. Didn't ruin the movie or anything but that's just how I felt personally. Regardless of how great or not great they could recreate her I prefer subtlety. Less is more sometimes.

 

I'll be able to tell better after VIII since she's got a slightly bigger role, but Carrie said she was comfortable acting, so if she's good at it, I could see it happen. In all honestly though, I think Leia will be killed off in VIII. I think they are starting over with IX.

 

It didn't bother me. Her appearance was necessary as was Tarkin's. These steps forward in CGI have to be taken so I can accept the bumps in the road.

 

Sela Ward for some added sex appeal... or Oprah Winfrey for some added diversity.

Death is a part of life and I have absolutely no problem with a recast.

I love the whole SW universe but I'm not that attached to the actors ( Bring in the bad rep ).

I have no idols in life so I'm not that concerned with this issue.

But really, though. No. She should be left alone. Let her die in VIII or off-screen between VIII & IX.

However, IF they do anything with her in IX, it should be brief CGI of the back of her as she prepares for certain doom, i.e., the sneak attack of her command ship (or what the FO thinks is a sneak attack). Just her, stoic, on the bridge, looking out at whatever is about to blow her ship up, calm, and reaching out to Luke/Rey through the force to say goodbye as we hear her voice, and cut to a shot of her ship exploding. But meanwhile, she goes down with the ship on purpose as a diversion to aid a bigger cause. Something like that. Classy, tasteful.

In actuality, while I'd really prefer to not have Leia recast, I think there are a couple of ways that it could work if it had to.

A younger Leia would be cool- I remember hearing rumors that Millie Bobbie Brown was interested in that part. I think she could be great, and I think Carrie would absolutely love for such a young and talented actress to take up the torch for this iconic character.

Billie Lourde would be good too- while I'm mostly against CGI Leia, if it was based on Billie and Carrie together, the sheer emotional impact would be enough for me to overlook any wonky CGI flubs. I think Carrie would be honored for her daughter to carry on Leia's legacy, as well.
