I didn't say I want them to stop producing SW movies. I just suggested to end the episodic form by EP9. Personally, I think after EP9 they will produce tons of spin-off movies, then maybe come back with a new trilogy (but not about Rey). This is all future-speculation though and we should focus on the present day.

Your comparison doesn't really work here. Yes, you can change the look of the car but you can't change the basic components (without changing the whole car). George Lucas set these basic components (it's canon that Anakin is the chosen one).
Disney will always honor the Lucas' Story and I highly doubt they would change the movie-canon.

Sorry, but I don't quite get this. There will always be cosplay of the latest movie, next year we will propably see a lot of R1 stuff. It's called marketing.

At first, I was thinking Lucas too and asking tons of question and then I get it ... See TFA as the first Star Wars movie you had ever saw and you'll get it.

Your visions are nostalgic wishes but it's not how you make a story going forward. I'm sorry for you guys but you will have to get use to it.

 

TFA is the continuation of a movie franchise and you realise this in every second of the movie. You need the previous movies to fully understand the story. I even can set you an example: My third viewing was with a friend who has never seen any type of SW content (shame on her^^) and she didn't really understand the plot. She was always asking etc.

Yeah, Disney wants to gain new viewers, too, but TFA was a movie for fans from fans. It's just as simple as that. Just look at the amount of fanservice in this movie.

 

It moves forward, yeah, but it does so without erasing the past.

 

I won't fight against you and the others because it's not the point. It's just thinking outside the Lucas thing. It took me 2 months to understand and then I rewatched TFA like it was my first movie ever and then it was crystal clear.

I'm not saying the tree thing is true because I don't know, I just say it makes a lot of sense from what I saw in TFA and letting the old crew go.

I'm sorry that you'll be disappointed about the origins of Rey ( which are details at best ) but the story has to move forward without Han ( done ), without Leia, without Vader, without Palpatine, Plagueis, and without Luke at the end.

I won't argue more because I don't want to upset people but take my advice watch the movie as if it was Star Wars I.

I agree with you in the sense that TFA is a reboot. No one wants to call it that, but it is.

However, they aren't going to throw out everything in some wierd "move forward" mission.

Yeah TFA is the first Star Wars movie for many.

Making Rey related does nothing to stop new fans from enjoying this trilogy.

Although some lame tree thing might.

Explaining Rey as a Skywalker would be just as easy/hard as giving her some other origin.

It would also help the film fit into the entire saga nicely.

There is literally no reason not to do it actually.

Why is the main bad a solo??

Yeah TFA was a sloppy and poorly written reboot.

But the new trilogy is obviously a continuation of the saga...

 

It's not erasing. Lucas era was a good story, a strong one but it's over. You can't stuck a franchise in the past. It's moving forward and to move forward you need the freedom to tell your own story.

 

The idea of kylo redeemed as the main Skywalker is not only unoriginal but frankly sexist bull...

It's like some can't get over the idea that the new Luke is a woman.

"Well Rey isn't a Skywalker, but Ben is"....it's like folks would literally rather cheer for someone who murdered a beloved character than cheer for a female.

Strange and sad.

And the Reylo crowd is even more sexist.

Yeah, let's turn Star Wars into twilight where women just can't help themselves...

First, TFA wasn't their own story. It was a sloppy remake full of nostalgia so what you're saying is already wrong.

Second, no one is saying they can't or won't tell their own stories as the continue the saga.

Rey Skywalker does not prevent that in any way.

But the funny thing is that as long as Rey has no name and don't remember her parents she would surely take the name Skywalker because of her master.

One other thing before I log off, how is telling the story of the chosen one/prophecy via flash back moving forward?

If Rey isn't a Skywalker it won't be from a desire to "move forward"....it will be JJ trying to be cute and trick people.

 

This is something I'm wondering myself. If it's revealed that she is a Skywalker / Solo / Kenobi / Palpatine / Nobody or whoever, would she go with the new name or would she just remain as Rey (without surname)?

 

I have no more clue about this, I'm just thinking it will peace people about her being a random choice of the Force.

I think everybody has a name so she'll have to chose one.

There will be no flashbacks I guess. Rey will be the hero of many trilogies to come and I think they built the story for her to be the most force sensitive being ever.

That's why they took an unknown actress because Disney wants her to be the face of the Force for decades ... like many Disney's stars.

Just ask your kids what they think about Rey. My nephews were hard core Luke's fans and after TFA, they loved Rey and they wanted to see more of her.

 

I bet you Kylo and Rey fall in love before the end of the trilogy, bringing balance to the Force.
