Rey using a lightsaber....What do you feel???

In my opinion its incredible that Rey could beat Kylo Ren with the lightsaber although it was her first try.

 

Exactly. In ANH, we see Luke channel the Force to make an impossible shot into the Death Star. In TFA, we see Rey channel the Force to beat a wounded opponent in a lightsaber fight. It's actually very comparable.

 

We don't know it was her first try.
Kylo just took a Chewie Bowcaster shot to the gut and was actually in the process of dying while also not trying to kill her but recruit her.

 

Kylo had wounds galore from Chewbacca and Finn, plus the experience of killing his own father weighing heavily on his mind. Rey, while never picking up a lightsaber, has been fighting for most of her life. To survive on Jakku one must be quick, sharp as nails, and violent.

 

My first viewing of TFA I was a little bothered by how she was able to defeat Kyle, but after a few more viewings a lot of it is justified. She didn't exactly kick his a-- She was getting her a-- kicked by a heavily injured opponent (physically and mentally) right up to the cliff edge until she was able to channel just enough force to fight him back. She didn't do anything fancy or all that skillful, she just overpowered him. The Force Awakened in her!
She doesn't understand it yet, and I can't wait to see how she progresses in Episode 8. I also can't wait to see a scarred and pissed off and determined Kylo as well.

 

Well.....I saw a woman using a weapon. Nothing unusual about that. I know I was supposed to feel something more, since it was a lightsaber after all and the force theme was playing the background, but honestly it didn't have an effect on me. I already knew that Rey had the force, the ability to use various weapons and the willingness to fight, so there was nothing surprising about what happened in that scene. And she didn't remind me of Luke, not at all, in fact I only remembered him when he was mentioned and at the end of the movie when we saw him. I mean Rey is nothing like Luke, the only thing they have in common is that both of them grew up on sand planets. She's more like Han, which is probably why she liked him so much. But she does have a "coming of age" story that is similar to Luke's, so I see where other people are coming from.
