Did anyone else notice she uses the 'Palpatine thrust' at least three times and the Hayden-Anakin style over the head chop forward? I suspect these were both deliberately shown...though for what reason we can only speculate *cough, darkside, cough*

Noticed it too, I don't think it was a reference to Palpatine. This move is powerful, if you don't avoid it, you're dead, no wonder she used it a few time against Kylo.

I noticed it, but thought it reminded me more of Luke in Jedi when he beats Vader.

How long do the fights last? Kylo v Finn and Kylo v Rey?

From what I hear, Rey seems more like Luke in fighting style.

Absolutely. I thought that when I saw her fight.

The more I recall moments, the higher my opinion of the film gets...
If you haven't seen it yet, there's a moment
Where Rey accepts her role and takes the light sabre
when some music kicks in and the hairs on your neck will stand up.

Reminded me of Ezra in the mid season finale of Rebels.

I didn't really take away any kind of style, other than: unpolished. I'm still hoping she's going to end up wielding a green double sided lightsaber. They really insinuated that with all the staff use in their promotion campaign.

The thing is, both Rey and Kylo were untrained / not train enough. It was really rough clash, driven more by emotions than skill. I didn't really picked up any distinctive style.

Okay, I watched the movie a second time today and I noticed Rey fights with the saber as with a staff, holding with two hands, striking powerfully forward, kicking the enemy. I definitely expect her to carry a two-sided light saber in the next movies (like my favorite SW character Satele Shan), would fit her staff style perfectly.

I took it as she was trying to injure that right shoulder of his because he had already been injured on the other shoulder. I just saw it as her trying to wound him further and it was working.
