Rey's return to a galaxy far, far away is probably my most favourite announcement of this year's Star Wars Celebration. Mainly because this one offers the most potential for speculations.

This movie is set 15 years after the events of 'The Rise Of Skywalker'. That's quite some time! The following points are my most urgent questions:

    1) How does the galaxy look like?
Rey is trying to rebuild or create a new Jedi Order:
    star-wars-duel-of-the-fates-leaked-concept-art-part-2-28.jpeg
(Concept Art from Colin Trevorrow's cancelled Star Wars movie 'Duel Of The Fates')

But what about the rest of the galaxy? Is there a new Republic again? Are there remnants of the First Order trying to regroup? Or is the galaxy in complete chaos- warlords trying to gain power?

    2) What's the deal with Rey?

Yes, Rey is rebuilding the Jedi Order, but that's quite a huge task to do. Is she capable to do so? How powerful has she become in the force? Is she still tempted by the dark side?

    Rey as Jedi.jpg

I hope she has to deal with some kind of inner conflict. She's a Palpatine after all.

    3) Which allies will return?
I highly doubt Daisy Ridley will be the only one to return for this movie. But which sequel trilogy character do you want to see and in which role?

I think John Boyega's Finn sould definitely return, maybe even as a Jedi pupil.

    Finn as Jedi.jpg

But I could also see Mark Hamill returning as Luke's force ghost and maybe even Adam Driver as Ben Solo (force ghost or alive). Force ghost Luke is guiding Rey, while force ghost Ben (or just a vision/nightmare of Ben) haunts her.

    4) Who or what will be the villain?

A movie's protagonist is only as good as its antagonist. So, who do Rey and her friends have to fight against? Remenants of the First Order? An alien threat like the Yuuzhan Vong? Or something as simple as a Jedi gone rogue?

I really hope this movie is turning out to be good and successful, mainly because I want this movie to kick off a new trilogy (or even more movies) set during this very time period.

I think Finn will definitely be back
Regarding Rey 'struggling with the dark''....I doubt it very much. SW comic and book supplementary material seem very anxious to emphasise how 'good' she is; they have after all, made her a Palpatine so I think the last thing they'd want to do was show her even hinting at 'going in grandaddy's shoes.'

    Watch this video.

Starting at around the 2-minute mark, Kathleen Kennedy provides some key (albeit general) details about the state of the galaxy as of New Jedi Order.

One challenge Lucasfilm faces here is how do they contrast the New Republic era vs. the New Jedi Order era without it feeling the same? The Mandoverse is outlining the issues faced with apathy and disorder. How do things look after the end of the First Order? Luke didn't seem like had much of connection with the New Republic. It seems like a government closer to the Jedi will be something the Jedi will need to rebuild.

The Jedi being closer to the government didn't really work in the PT, at least in universe.

But because you're mentioning it- @RockyRoadHux and I just talked about the depiction of future Jedi.

The idea: there is no master and apprentice duo. Rather do a pairing of two equals, but with different sets of skills. So they can learn from each other. Furthermore this makes for a much more interesting dynamic.

Last but not least, allow attachments. But LF is already hinting toward this development anyway.

That's a really interesting period time to explore!!

Am so excited for this movie as well and so happy for Daisy's return.

I think after TROS it was like a reset for the galaxy (I see a smaller galaxy) and without a big thread the power will be on races and free planets.
I think the majoriy of a new galatic senate will be ruled by a lot of those free planets and also I think they will give a lot of powers to Jedi again, like High Republic or even the Old Republic, when they were guardians of peace. The conflict will arrive with this. Some will oppose and some will support that idea, while a new thread will come.

Maybe Thrawn will be still in the shadow, you know, the smartest guy in the galaxy that was always far from Emperor's first line. Maybe they will use the Zahn's trilogy to develop here a story and gaining a lot of old followers again, who is not sure about Re's return and who lost faith.

Rey needs to have a lot of duality, for her blood and for her choosen name. Maybe Rey is capable to create new life forms or a new type of midi-chlorian XD

A new villain could be a new force sensitive race, like Rakata. Maybe an ancient/legendary race that earns a new beginning and returns from the ashes.

Of course Luke has to appear as a force ghost.

Also think the opportunity to make clear Finn was from an important family and become a Jedi. It was so open (and clear) in ST and really could work. Maybe him turning the dark side and then fighting Rey... XD

My favorite of the announcements by far. Ultra happy to see Rey again.

If I were in the input, I'd throw in the idea of an abstract antagonist for this one. Instead of some evil person(s), the antagonist would be the state of the galaxy itself, and the resulting obstacles needed to be overcome in order to achieve her goal, to bring diversity into unification. The idea of inner-conflict could work as a central antagonist, it just seems to me that had been resolved with Luke at the end of TROS so it feels somewhat redundant but, it could easily be refreshed in some narrative way.

I don't know, though. It seems to me we should have an absence of "bad guys" here, and show the end result after the bad guys are gone, that we have to overcome the "antagonism" of the good guys toward one another in order to truly move forward into the future, you know?

Poe and Finn at the very least in extended cameo if not full supporting.

Given the nature of the story so far, I could see quite a few force ghosts in this one. Luke, Anakin, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon. Given their story so far, Ben I can only see as a source of solace to Rey. But force ghost Ben, has to play a part, right?

What I'm wondering is whether or not this will be episodic? Will it be Episode X? With full crawl and fanfare? Or, not? Is this the last time we'll see Rey as the protagonist? Some of my thoughts depend on how this will fit with the previous nine episodes.

also I saw a picture of Daisy on stage and she looked so... absolutely ... incredibly ... amazingly ... what's the word I'm looking for here ... oh yeah, married.

It didn't work at the end, but worked well for thousands of years. It seems like Luke's course correction was obviously too much. The galaxy need the Jedi. It's finding the right balance.
Thrawn should be gone by this period, but the threat the Chiss faced was what brought him to the Empire in the first place.

This would definitely expand the lore.

I would rather have Rey turning bad and Finn saving her.

A long time ago I had this idea of the force being the villain. The main characters have to destroy several force nexus to create balance.

This is good news. Bringing back the crawl for movies is a good idea.

I'm loving the ideas and sentiment here. The idea that we don't need a Bad GUY, just a challenge for the Good Guys to overcome, and that challenge is of their own doing. That would truly be some fresh ground to cultivate. Sure, throw some misbehavers in there, some FO remnant, pirates, crime syndicates... Slowly build to a big Baddie that's growing.

I do think that Rey rebuilding the Jedi should be a separate entity from any Government. Maybe set it up where both the New Jedi Order and the Newer Republic(or whatever) are hesitant to work together because of the past, but as things develop, both sides realize they need each other.

I think Rey calling herself a Skywalker when in fact she's a Palpatine may create strife amongst her students. Her students finding out that she's been keeping it a secret could be a pretty big plot point.

This is a very good idea. I actually love stories centered around the fact that the biggest battles is the human heart at conflict with itself. Hopefully LF will go with this, than a retread of the Klingons---oh I am sorry an invasion by the Yozon Vong!

I hope not. That entire Palaptine plot point is so silly that they should ignore it ever happened. Why would anyone care that someone was the granddaughter of a cloning experiment? The sooner the storytelling moves past bloodline storytelling the better. It's severely limiting and turns this entire universe into Days of Our LIves in Space.
Isn't this exactly what Luke did?

Why should it cause strife. I am sure that if the secret comes up she'll admit that Palpatine was her grandfather. But she has no connection to him whatsoever. Her parents gave up that name to save her life. And she feels no connection to that name. She took on the name Skywalker to honour the family that helped her be where she is now. And that is the family--her people.

Yeah, that's what it seems like, but also I feel like a lot of Luke's hesitation came from a more personal place than one of Galactic concern. I think as they reveal more about Luke, if they do, we will see that was a flaw of his- he struggled with separating his personal issues from the overall picture. We definitely saw shades of that from him with Leia and Ben.

If Rey can find the Balance between the old ways/origins of the Jedi and the needs of the modern Galaxy, she can bring the Jedi back into prominence. At this point in the story, we are looking at over 50 years with no structured Jedi or Force-user organization.

Oooh... What if THAT is the conflict? What have all these Force-sensitive beings been doing without a Jedi Order to teach them how to use their abilities? There are two or three generations of Force-Sensitives out there just improvising and dealing with unusual abilities without guidance. Imagine a band of mercenaries or pirates comprised of Force Users. That could be a formidable "Bad Guy" without having some big Imperial/FO group.

First and foremost I'm just speculating here. Um because of Palpatines rep of nearly bringing the entire galaxy to it's knees? It would be better if Rey just wen't with the name instead of trying to bury who she really is. She could redeem the name/is the direction I'm going in.

OMG... my art teacher's fear, art work created with the help of A.I. I don't know if you are an artist, but my art instructors have been talking about this for a few months now. anyone can create art using established or working artist's work without permission. I have class tomorrow night I'm definitely going to bring this up in class.

BTW, Finn looks good as a Jedi pupil in training.

And why would she go with the name of the man who made her life living hell and the name her parents gave up to save her life and lost theirs. Why would she want to take on the name Palpatine? Also why would she want the name when he straight up told her in TROS that she was nothing to him? The only reason she would want to take the name was to get her hand on his money in order to build the Jedi or to meet some other end. But I doubt it would come to that and LF won't let it.
