I've heard some people say that...
    1. it is double bladed even though she only ignites one side at the end of the film
    2. it is made from parts of her staff

I haven't gotten a chance to see the film for a second time yet and I can't find screenshots online. Can anyone confirm/deny one or both of those items?

There's no confirmation if is double bladed. Just if there's any information in the visual guide that I don't know.

The Visual Dictionary doesn't talk about her new lightsaber at all, but I don't believe it's double-bladed although she did make the hilt from part of her staff.

I've shared this elsewhere, but the yellow color of her blade links her directly to the Jedi Temple Guards, as does the design of the double-bladed red saber her dark 'mirror' wields.

    Thanks for this info.

And I loved the colour that JJ chose for Rey's saber.

    Hey all,

I changed the title of this thread to hide the fact that Rey's got a new lightsaber in RoS, which is a clear spoiler. I'm not sure if this, "Rey's Weapon", is much better but at least it is something. Let me know if anyone can think of a better thread name.

As I’ve said elsewhere I like that the yellow is also sun-like, suns being stars and it means she has made a kind of ‘starlightsaber’ in contrast to the extinguishing of suns the First Order got up to when they were powering Starkiller (‘clue is in the name’) Base.

I kind of hope it is a double-ended saber, in further memorial to Luke and Leia’s sabers being buried- and how about this idea - she took the kyber crystals from both sabers and used them for hers...? Twin suns to remember twin Jedi masters in a twin lightsaber...

Can I just say, if you haven't seen the movie yet. What are you doing on a Star Wars forum?

Def looks like it was fashioned from her staff, or was it already there and she was told of it by 'someone'??

To continue the thread as to why I don't think her saber is double-bladed, it would be very cumbersome and time-consuming to have to activate both blades individually given that, unlike other sabers we've seen, hers isn't activated by a push-button but by a thumb dial, which means that both blades would have to activate simultaneously with a single thumb-swipe and we see zero indicators of more than one blade when she turns it on.

I like that it has a yellow blade like the Jedi temple guards, especially since she has the Jedi texts.

Rey's staff is really long. If it had a blade at each end, it would be huge. Since we can't see the other end of it, we have no way of knowing.

Could she still be using it as a staff and it just has a blade on the end like a halberd or naginata?

Maybe she just used parts from the staff to make a traditional lightsaber hilt. Perhaps she can just remove the lightsaber hilt from the end of the staff when she wants. What if the staff separates into two lightsabers? I think JJ left the other end off camera for the next filmmaker to decide. I know it's the end of the Skywalker saga, but there's no way they wont make another one with Daisey Ridley eventually. I'm already standing in line for it.

Rey's saber isn't a staff because you can clearly see the bottom end of the hilt when she holds it up and turns it on.

In Fallen Order, you can choose to either have a single blade or a double blade once you acquire the double blade. The hilt(?) is long enough and out of frame that it could be a double blade. Plus, they're is Luke and Leia's sabers there. She has that staff in too many scenes for me to believe that is a double blade, because what would be the point otherwise?

Most of the double-bladed sabers we've seen have two separate hilts joined together and linked to a single ignition mechanism, but what we see of Rey's hilt shows it as being a single piece.

Future reference material could prove me wrong, but at this juncture I don't think her saber is double-bladed based on what we see of it onscreen.

I don’t remember the bottom being visible either time I saw the movie. I’m going a third time on Wednesday and will look closer.

I don't either, but I was focused more on the fact that it was gold than anything else so I could've missed it.

Take a closer look at the image posted earlier in the thread. The bottom of the saber hilt trails down past her wrist and tapers off into a round 'cap' that is partially obscured by her wrist and the bottom of the frame, but is still visible enough to appear to be a single solid piece.
