I reckon the Republic isn't being resuscitated for a third go-around. I can see the Galactic Alliance being reintroduced into Star Wars canon at this point, minus the ex-Imperial chief of state. The First Order, if it still exists in any capacity, probably suffered a similar fate to the Empire: Split into various squabbling factions of warlords holding on to what semblance of power they can.

Overall, I'd bet on the galaxy being in a more stable position than it was at the start of The Force Awakens.

I feel like much of the film will be Rey struggling with trying to decide what a New Jedi Order will look like in the wake of two back-to-back near-extinctions. In the end it'll probably look a lot like Luke's from the old Expanded Universe, but I can't imagine the journey getting there will be easy.

I feel like BB-8 and Luke Skywalker are easy bets. I'm really hoping that John Boyega will come back on as Finn, but I can totally understand if he opts not to.

I don't really think we'll see much of the First Order, or any Imperial successor state for that matter. The Empire is pretty well done and dusted at this point, and I feel like there are more interesting antagonists that Lucasfilm could come up with that would hold more thematic weight in Rey's journey to rebuild the Jedi Order. Had the Knights of Ren not been absolutely destroyed by Ben Solo in The Rise of Skywalker, I would've hoped to see them in this role.

I just can only watch Rey, Chewie and BB8 flying with the Falcon for the first 30 minutes.

Cause the Falcon is Rey's ship people. And we love that ship :)

My answer is within the post you responded to. IMO she shouldn't shun her true lineage. She should embrace it, learn from it and redeem the name. Make it her own. She's a Palpatine. Palpatines don't need training lol.

But she didn't shun her true lineage. She chose her lineage and who she wants to be. A Skywalker. That's the major lesson of her arc. And again it makes absolutely no sense for her to take on the name Palpatine when her parents gave up the name to save her life.

Also if Rey wanted to take the name Palpatine. She would have taken him up on his original offer to take the throne. What's the point in defeating (deflecting his power back at him) to decide that she wants to take the name all along.

Good point. Not much rebuttal on that one.

Ummm because she's actually a Palpatine? Lol. That makes perfect sense IMO. I think it to be much more intriguing if she we're to choose to go with her true name despite the darkness associated with it which would be really rough for Rey, I get it. That to me is part of what makes it so dope. It would be a total unorthodox, un preconceived move.

We obviously are not going to see 100% eye to eye on this and that's fine. I still respect your opinion. Different opinions are fun.

I really hope no more time is devoted to Rey's parents. Being the orphan of a weird clone isn't something she should ever obsess over. Rey knows who she is, and that's wrapped up in the last film. There are bigger fish to fry.

Haha. Being Palpatine's granddaughter is one hell of a big fish my friend. Anyway I've stated my quite ...ahem.....popular.......wishes as far as what I'd like to see in Rey dealing with her true identity. I could go on and on with this but I'm good.

I think it's super cute that anyone would think her name would not be Rey Skywalker as she clearly and confidently stated last time we saw her.

OMG get over it people. Everyone is acting all butt hurt just because I stated that I wish, she would embrace her lineage. Take comfort in knowing that it won't happen lol. ;)

Isn't 15 years supposed to have passed since "The Rise of Skywalker" in this new movie? Why would Finn still be a Jedi apprentice?

Because Jedi training takes some time. During the PT era Jedi were training as Padawan for almost 20 years before they would become Jedi Knights. Even Anakin was promoted to Jedi knight after more than 10 years. Furthermore Finn needs character development. It would be kinda boring when he's already a full fledged out Jedi.

Yeah, I don't think they'll go that route.
I don't see why he hasn't to be "in training" to develop his character. Plus, the idea he's been training for 15 years and still isn't a Jedi when there's really no Jedi Order is kind of silly. It would kind of boring to have another main character being trained when that's a huge part of the first 9 films. Time to come up with something else.

I really don't think so either. It's enough having Rey then to just pile up on more main ST characters. If that would be the case then why not just go with episode ten than a stand alone film.

It might be interesting if Finn & Rey have developed rivalling (although not necessarily enimity) schools of thought regarding the Force. We could have the Skywalker school (semi-pasifistic warrior?), represented by Rey contra a more proactive, hero-fixing-(and-possibly-causing)-problems, represented by Finn flitting about the Galaxy righting wrongs, or whatever. <-- only better. This could give us some interesting back-and-fourth philosophical debate to run parallel with whatever central conflict our heroes need to take care on in the movie.

But we've never actually seen fully fledged out Jedi training. Yes, we don't need a pupil Finn to see something like that. But then you need a different and new character for that purpose. I would rather have as few new characters as possible. The screen time is really needed for Rey and the possible returning ST characters.

Finn doesn't need to be a Padawan, sure. Rey and Finn can train as Jedi knights as well. That's something I would like to see anyway. The removal of the master and apprentice relationship. Now that would be indeed something new.

That's actually an interesting idea. I had a similar idea with the villain, but your idea might be even better.

Maybe they will practice stabbing each other, since we know that move only kills Jedi Masters.

Cool this is. I wanted Finn to be a jedi back in 2015 but my desire for that has since then evolved. I want him to be acknowledged as force sensitive but to use it in his own way. Like liberating storm troopers from the first order (remnants?). I doubt we'll see much from Finn in the new movie but if we do............. .

Oh and can we get a Yuuzhan Vong force resistant type of enemy/antagonist(s) please? Something new - fresh for for the new era of the force and AGFFA.

If Darth Finn doesn't show up missing at least a forearm or a nose or something, this movie is doomed to fail.
