Ok, if you are a careful reader you know where the blame game is. "Disney messed it up, they want a dark SW film with Pg13 ect". Know your audience, same goes for Reddit posters. If it contains to much of fan criticism, I'm skeptic. I mean seriously, you may like the idea that there is good vs evil irl, but most of the time it is way more complex, and if it sounds to good to be true, it might not be true. I mean come on would you really think they filmed a Omaha beach nod, and didn't know that it might end up dark? This would be known since PREproduction. The thingss we really know are less spectacular and make awful click bait articles, because boring: Re shoots are quite common if you have the money, which they have. Not Disney, but Lucasfilm is making Star Wars movies.

This went from 0 to 100 back down to 0 so quickly  and so many people are debunking it every few hours.

MSW may be wrong on some of the reshoot stuff in their last report, but someone obviously told them that, MSW wouldn't just make it up, and we all know how good MSW sources are. So it might be time for disney/LFL to tell the staff to pull their heads in and stop spreading rumours.

If McQuarrie isn't under contract with Lucasfilm he should be able to immediately and specifically debunk his involvement. Not just cast vague aspersions.

Also remember though. There is an active campaign by a subset of fans out there intent on discrediting Disney and making all new SW films fail so that Disney will stop making them and return the rights to Lucas so they can have their EU back(yeah...they actually think this is a possibility.) These are the folks behind #BoycottStarWars and the same ones who were in theaters spoiling Han's death in lobbies opening weekend with the hopes of driving audiences away and driving down the box office.

Any negative rumor mongering or petty gossip like this on reddit or from unproven sources should be taken with huge mountains of salt.

    Are you serious?

I had some inkling that people were upset - some enough to put up the billboard opposite Hidalgo's office but wow... this is nuts if true.

Don't forget those who harass people during conventions, bloggers and authors because they are unhappy. This is a small, vocal group, but they are trying their hardest.

I am not saying that is what happened here, with Rogue One. There are indeed re-shoots happening, but we already know that much of the rumors surrounding them is BS. How many sites who reported it with breakneck speed to get clicks will retract or edit the BS? The damage is done. This is, unfortunately, the time we live in. I am just hoping that Gareth and the crew are staying away from everything and simply doing their jobs.

Unfortunately it is true. Some fans have decided either for reasons of entitlement or "just wanting to watch the world burn" that they'd rather tear down the whole damn thing than continue to watch the new continuity. And they are among us in fan circles. On reddit and other sites where the nefarious gather. On social media, tweeting angrily at Pablo and others shaking their fists angrily at the sky . At theaters and conventions trying to ruin the good time of others. And maybe, just maybe even here.

    Time to get paranoid.

Are you now, or have you ever been a member of the #boycottStarWars party sir?!?!? ;)

Seriously though, they are real and they are deliberately trying to disrupt and sew discord among the fans/audience of the new movies. Its always wise to take internet gossip as likely lies until there is some sort of proof or consensus, but even moreso in the current climate when it starts or contains "Disney is teh Devil and are ruining Star Wars!!!1!".

Disney may well be a greedy corporation out to bleed Star Wars dry. Or they may just be a Media Conglomerate trying to maximize their properties in a creatively rewarding manner. (Or more likely, they are both) But if the crux of the argument is " Studio Execs are tampering" then I choose to wait and see. Because that is the battlecry of the uninformed. Every big movie has studio tampering. Every big movie does reshoots. Listens to focus groups. Has rewrites and reworks in editing to make things flow better and become more appealing. Whether its a good or bad thing usually depends on the eye of the eye of the studio exec, the state of the product being "tampered" with, and the ability of the director to draw a line in the sand if they think the studio has overstepped. And these are the sorts of things no one knows until we see the finished product.

As several folks have already mentioned, this furor / discussion / conversation is part of the time we live in. The Internet (and specifically social media) has made it easier for anyone with an opinion access to voice his or her opinion and interact with others. The line has also become blurred between journalists and bloggers. I teach a technology course for preservice teachers and one of the most important topics I cover is media literacy. With the wealth of information on the Internet, how does one analyze and evaluate all forms of media?

In a nutshell, when evaluating information.
    • Identify the source
    • Discover the source's expertise
    • Determine the level of objectivity
    • Establish the date of publication
    • Verify what the information claims
    • Evaluate the quality in information (scope of coverage, objectivity, authority, accuracy, timeliness)
I mention these criteria because I think media literacy skills are useful for everyone to have in this Internet age. When Page Six first "broke" the scoop and their "info" spread like wildfire, I thought back to these criteria. It's one of the reasons why I took their info with a heaping grain of salt.

As for the various trade follow ups and subsequent MSW "scoop", everyone will have their own perspective on the situation. I have a feeling that these exec / creative conversations are common with reshoots for all big tentpole films (e.g., Suicide Squad, TFA, Captain America: Civil War, Star Wars Ep VIII, etc.) and the only reason we privy to the process is that the Internet has "pulled back the curtain" so to speak. Fan interest in the Star Wars franchise has been rejuvenated and consequently media / gossip sites/ bloggers want to tap into the fan interest. Again, it's the age we live in.

Although I do get sucked into the frenzy, I've also learned to take a step back from time to time. My motto is "whatever will be, will be." I have faith that Lucasfilm and Disney are striving to make Rogue One the best film it can possibly be. I'll wait until December and after I've seen the film before deciding whether or not my expectations have been met. Regardless of what they do, someone in the fandom will be disappointed. It is what it is.

It sounds to me like they made the movie I wanna see and Disney rejected it. Now, they wanna tone it down for more mass appeal. I understand that reasoning, I hope I can see it in its current form someday.
