Simultaneous arrival of Poe and Kylo at Jakku..official inquiry thread

The simple answer: It's a movie and it was convenient to have them both there. You could call it "bad writing", but I'm calling it "necessary writing".

 

I would say spies. There were spies on Takodana too, so it would make sense.

 

Yes. This could be interesting for TLJ. Maybe there are still traitors/spies in the Resistance.

 

That's the big twist of TLJ, right? Haha!

 

The other possibility is that Poe's X-wing was being tracked.

 

We don't necessarily know that Poe had just arrived on Jakku though, do we?

For all we know, he could've been on the planet for weeks before finding Lor San Tekka at Tuanul. It's an entire planet, after all.


Though it's also likely this was simply a storytelling device. While I wouldn't necessarily rule out Poe being a traitor, the same could've been said for A New Hope: After all, isn't it a bit of a coincidence that Leia led Vader to a planet that contained his old mentor, his own son, and a potential powerful ally in Jabba the Hutt? I mean, did she want the Rebellion to die?

 

Speculating: Poe was tracked to Jakku since he was an elite pilot as it is and/or the first order already had a presence around the system and the second it was confirmed that Dameron wasn't the first order, they pounced on his location and Kylo simply got lucky in finding LST at the same time

Could be a tracker, a spy or they already knew about Poe, so they were following him, which could make it both a tracker and a spy.

 

Poe had met Lor Tekka before. Lor Tekka was a friend of Leia, known to Kylo Ren.

they weren't looking for Poe, they were looking for Lor Tekka. Lor Tekka had ties to the Church of the Force on Jakku.
if Lor Tekka had just returned from acquiring the map and sent word to the Resistance, they could actually have been tracking Lor Tekka and just happened to arrive shortly after Poe did.

Lor Tekka knew he had to turn the map over quickly.
he wouldn't have taken it to the Resistance base because that would have risked giving its location away.
better to say let's rendezvous at a religious site so as to avoid arousing suspicion (historically Resistance fighters made similar use of churches, etc.).
similarly, if they were tracking Poe's X-wing, they would know the Resistance's location already.

so my guess is Ren was watching/following Lor Tekka and Poe got caught up in the mix--they clearly had no idea who Poe was.



either way, what an awesome kick-off for the new ST! : D

 

Looks like the Force was already plotting if Poe was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. The place where Rey lived and the Falcon resided too.

 

Agreed Kylo & FO made quite a entrance.

 

Jakku isn't a random planet, though. you're right, it's not coincidence at all.
Ren didn't come to Jakku for San Tekka, he came for the map, which he knew San Tekka had.
the question is: how did he know San Tekka had it?
as you somewhat suggested, it would be interesting to know if Ren somehow knew this because of his mother! : D
