SPECULATION Snoke is ancient Sith awoken when Luke trained Ben Solo

Snoke is a Ren.The Sith would fight them if they were still around.Ren are invaders from the unknown regions and invaders must die.

 

i take the trained as Jedi and Sith just to mean "in their ways", not literally by a Jedi and Sith, though it's true in the case of Luke.
if Ren has modeled himself after his grandfather and the Knights of Ren to whom he belongs/is master are pre-existing acolytes of the Sith, then it doesn't mean Snoke himself must be Sith for Ren to have trained in Sith ways. for all we know there are other "Dark" paths in which he has also trained.

as for the awakening, it will be interesting to see the breadth and length of Snoke's influence over Ben. if, as some have speculated, he was already being corrupted in the womb, then his turn to the Dark side couldn't have "awoken" Snoke. likewise, if Ben turned to the Darkside only 6 years before TFA, then it seems Snoke was already around a while before then, so that doesn't seem to work in terms of continuity.

well.. there is another slim and somewhat silly possibility..

if Kylo wasn't mad and talking to a burnt mask in TFA... who the hell was he talking to?
he thinks that the pull to the light he feels is a weakness.. so there is no way that he would actively be chit-chatting to light-sided Anakin. that leaves one possibility... that he's talking to Vader. And if he's talking to Vader and getting advice... he's getting sith training.. no?

as i said.. silly

until we all physically see his rotting corpse in the bedroom of his evil lair.. or see him walking about dropping lightning bombs on the good guys - it aint never gonna go away.

I sadly agree. Most of the assumptions I had about Snoke when TFA was released are now on ice, because of that.

This is a great point. The Sith way is not necessarily the "be-all-to-end-all" of Dark Side power. For all we know, Snoke could be far more dangerous than any of the Sith we've come to know. It's open right now. Also, he could still be taking pages out of the Sith strategy book because they work. But that doesn't mean he's a Sith himself.

 

Snoke is the most decrepit Force user I think we've ever met. He took a hell of a beating some time ago.

So if Snoke is far more dangerous than the Sith, then what does that say about the undisclosed person or thing who injured him?

 

Well, we know Sidious was pretty darn powerful...but then he did inflict these injuries on "Snoke" in his sleep, so there is that.

 

I don't buy the theory because there are many force sensitives..ie, Maz. But, maybe where she is neutral and balanced, she doesn't count...

 

I agree that Snoke is ancient Dark side Master, in a rank of a Sith Lord ( this is just a game of words actually Sith or no Sith. there is no true meaning in this "difference"..)

However I believe,In fact I am almost sure, as some people already pointed out, that Snoke has been found, a possibly awaken by no other than Palpatine himself.

Troughout new canon novels it was reported how Palpatine was searching for something out there, and..he has most obviously found it.

 

The Jedi and the Sith were the most powerful Force users we know. If Snoke wasn't damaged by either of them, then what else could legitimately explain his injuries without potentially undermining Snoke, the Jedi and the Sith? I'd love to know what the writers creatively came up with in that regards.

And if it were the Jedi or the Sith who injured Snoke, then they obviously no longer considered him a danger or threat.

Didn't Palpatine die before he could find whatever it was he was searching for in the Unknown Regions?

 

he assigned Rax to it and i think the theory is that when Sloane and Brendol took off from Jakku in the wake of Rax's demise into the Unknown Regions, they encountered whatever was out there waiting per Palpatine's plan. could be Snoke? could be peaches. who knows!

i completely agree that they need to give him a decent backstory and goal. The thinking that it worked for the Emperor so it will work for snoke is beyond naive not to mention very unfufillng and repetitive from an audience perspective.

but everything that has come out about him seems at this stage points towards this is the way disney are headed and at best we can expect to get a hasitly assembled and figured out throw away back story in episode 9 that is fleshed out in books and comics.

I think if your expecting more then that at this stage you are setting yourself up to be disappointed.
