As I said, I don't need to see the film...i've read it...nothing i see on screen will change my opinion about it. He didn't develop the characters...he pretty much destroyed them I feel. They definitely did not deserve the future that they got. Again, there had to be other ways to show how they "developed"... I was really hoping for a different outcome here and have been great disappointed in what JJ did. I was very torn on whether or not to see this movie and as it stands now I can't bring myself to watch this portrayal of the original characters I know and love. But it is what it is unfortnuately.

They implied during the originals that this is a couple not to be messed with. Nothing can keep these 2 apart...They always got back together....in ANH, he leaves, then comes back to save the day...in Empire, they say their goodbyes before he is frozen and then in Return she rescues him....then he thinks she is into luke, and gets discouraged but then finds out shes not.... why go through an entire trilogy building this romance/friendship to just let it all end abruptly? That is not respecting the characters at all.

Despite what you think, you cannot understand the depth of any scene just by seeing pictures and reading a transcript. I was in theatre for many years and it takes a writer, actor(s) and a director in order to create a really great scene. Seeing a still and reading something on the page doesn't convey the whole idea. I see it in about six hours but I truly believe that the scene is going to be heartwrenching and that I will be left feeling gutted (so to speak).

I am not happy that Han is dead but I understand the sacrifice had to be made in order to thrust the saga into this story. I think what Abrams, Kasdan and Johnson are doing is going to be brilliant and I can't wait. But to each his own, I guess!

It's not just the scene....i'm fine with Han dying but not if its just so harrison ford doesn't have to be in it anymore. Which is most likely what they did here. I'm very intrigued to see how many others will feel the way i do once the movie is officially out. I, for one, will pretend that these movies never happen and stick with the expanded universe stories lol

And while I think you're kinda right about Harrison wanting out (and frankly I don't necessarily blame him for it), I think it also serves a pretty important story purpose regarding bringing our hero(es) into their own. Think about both The Phantom Menace and A New Hope for a second. What plot point is really driven home in those films? A young person is brought out of their go nowhere life by a mentor who comes into the young person's world. Then, in order for that person to truly come into their own, that mentor is killed. Then, they do something magnificently brave. Anakin. Luke. Now Rey. Mentored by Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Han. I think its a beautiful piece of symmetry.

But, if it's what you choose, go enjoy your EU. ;)

Yes, Harrison did want out. He wanted out since ANH, you know.

It absolutely furthers the story, it will have an affect on the main characters and their wanting of redemption... you know, like Luke and Obi Wan?

But, if you prefer saying this movie is no good without seeing it and resorting to (honestly pretty rubbish) EU, go right on ahead.

I didnt' say the movie was no good..I'm sure its really good as people say it is. I just don't want to watch my favorite characters become what i believe is a shell of themselves.

There is still a spark between Leia and Han. It might not be said, but it is conveyed through imagery. This is a couple who loved so deeply, but this thing happened. Han has given up, but it is Leia who convinces him that their son can be saved. It is because of Leia, for Leia, that Han steps out on the bridge to confront their son, Kylo Ren. This is done to complete Kylo Ren's transformation to the Dark Side. It will also, more than likely, have a profound effect on the main characters. We already see Rey in an almost uncontrollable fury. Would she have killed Kylo Ren if she had the chance? It's possible. We say another side of our beloved heroine.

that is not what the original trilogy portrayed. It showed they could get through anything together. All 3 of them. It just really bothers me that the history of these characters i came to love in the originals is just too damn dark. To give han and leia an evil kid was just a horrible idea. It didn't have to be all happy but to have them split apart after all we saw them go through and not even come back together is just absurd in my eyes. Way too doom and gloom and they deserved better. Also a wasted opportunity. Why not have the kid turn bad, keep them together still, then have han die, it would've been MUCH sadder and tragic that way. I can't believe I am the only one who sees it this way. It amazes me. I guess I had my hopes set way too high to see them all together again.

Also...barely any recognition of Han's death from Leia....wtf is that about?? And Chewie pretty much ignores her when they get back. Why wouldn't they be the first to hug or whatever. More proof for me that these are not the same characters as they should've been. Leia's reaction when he was frozen was way better than his death. Just ridiculous!

i feel like Han, Luke & Leia's history after ROTJ should have been more adventurous than dark. We don't know that it wasn't officially, but we get the idea. I definitely expected to see some sort of reunion between the 3 so that was very surprising and don't know why they wouldn't shoot a scene like that. Han & Leia definitely should have stayed strong and stuck together despite what their son did.

This is what i feel like should've been done(something along these lines anyway)
Keep them together, have Han & Chewie go look for the Falcon and find Rey just like they did...go back to the base, talk over plans for an assault while han & leia do their iconic exchanges of arguing like they used to. Have Luke speak to them behind closed doors. Luke and Leia tell Han to try to save Kylo one last time or something like that. Luke then says have Rey find him if things go wrong or something....they all exchange a hug...han and leia kiss one last time....then continue with the way the rest played out.

That would've made Han's death more dramatic and mean something more than what it was.

OH and also have some kind of memorial service for the guy!!!! jeez!!! he is HAN SOLO!!! And have Chewie and Leia share a moment together after Han's death.

This just frustrates me way more than it should!

This is not the original trilogy.

    We agree on that.
