SPOILER Stormtroopers on Set Images

Awesome that they got to see this and thank you for sharing, but damn get a decent phone. I could take a better pic with my flip phone from last decade.

 

You're right it is a leaf.

I actually got a better look at the pictures using my phone, that is definitely a branch too, 100%.

What I can't quite figure out is if the storm trooper deteriorates at the rate he should if he is in the background, he seems to blur at the same rate as the branch which he is quite a ways away from. The leaf also seems to curve around him in the right leg weight picture which is usually a sign of Photoshop. But it is just blurry enough I can't say for sure yay or nay.

this is what i alluded to with my skullduggery comment... the blurry overhanging branch in the foreground makes great camouflage.

i'm no expert by any stretch - but i think its genuine. I'm ignoring the ever-so 'whiteness' of the outfit as i've no idea what sort of things they do to costumes for green-screen filming (ok.. blue )

when i saw echo's comment that he could'nt see a stormtrooper.. i was gonna edit the photo and put a lego Han in stormtrooper outfit bang in the middle and ask him to look again lol. not something i can get away with here at work

Huh?! Oh... the uniform.

 

As long he's not wearing green then it's perfectly ok. The reason Green and Blue are the most popular colors is that they are two hues you almost never find in humans or most really in the case of neon green, unless you live in Appalachia, so they are easy for computers to recognize. Theoretically you could use red but the computer will paint over your humans too. I've seen red screen used for scenes with no human skin visible though

 

Actually, I have the 6" Han in his normal garb, and the head on it is identical to the one on this new Stormtrooper. One really cool feature of these new larger figures, is that they have interchangeable hands and heads. Han came with bare hands, and hands wearing gloves. So far, on the figures I have, all the hand and head ball sockets are of a standard size, so you can do some neat mix and match variations. I picked up some extra figures, and snapped Han's head on Luke's X-Wing Pilot body. Never seen Han in an orange flight suit before.

Fun stuff.

Looks legitimate to me. The minor branch overlap in the second photo where the trooper shifts his leg can be explained by the poor lighting conditions, haze/fog, and the quality of the camera. My old iPhone 4 takes about this kind of quality photo from a distance with only hand stabilization and less than ideal lighting conditions. Exposure level, often automated on phones, can also explain the apparent starkness of the stormtrooper. First, we know stormtroopers are white so I am not sure what people are seeing that makes it look wrong, but assuming he looks "off," well that can be explained by the exposure. Low lighting tends to cause the camera to overcompensate and give an unnatural glow to objects in frame and we can clearly see that the entire scene does not have entirely accurate color depiction. If you could do better with an average camera phone trying to focus on a distant moving object with an obstruction in the foreground, all while trying to stabilize the shot with your hand in a hazy lowlight setting, let me know!

That being said, the only thing that looks unnatural to me is the set he is standing in. Very grey and blackened, and could have feasibly been inserted via photoshop. That's not to say it's fake, since the materials actually look like bits of set and not war photo rubble. I think the strewn about AV equipment and piles of carefully stacked and sorted material make it seem too complex to all be fake. Even so, if someone came out with definitive evidence this was faked, I wouldn't be entirely surprised by the forgery, but rather how convincing the small details were.

My only thing with the pictures, is in the pic of the 'trooper' when he is to left, where do his feet go?

It looks like the tropper is hunting someone. trying to flush out someone hiding in the rubble. Gwendolyn on the trail of Boyega maybe?
I could see this being one of the final scenes: Gwen is raging mad! Her troop has been defeated and shes the last one left. Boyega is hiding and has something she wants. Shes screaming out into the jungle and throwing flames into the brush. Boyega pops up and takes off running. The chase ensues....
