I think the TFA novelization is written by Alan Dean Foster, known for his movie adaptations in the 80's, Aliens and some Star Trek come to mind, but mainly he worked on "SW- Empire Strikes Back" and wrote "SW - Splinter of the Minds Eye" that some loved and others hated it. ADF is a GhostWriter that can put to words some concepts but don't create nothing unique or new, so don't expect to much of it and see it as a good side dish on the main course, or a reminder for the upcoming movies.

Everything released after April 25, 2014 is canon unless otherwise stated.

    Nothing contradicts the movie.
    (except some landscape descriptions)

It adds some cut scenes, some more info directly from the script, but that's it

It makes it explicit that Kylo knows more about who Rey really is.

Isn't it implied that Rey was being trained clearly as a Jedi as a toddler ?

Skimmed read, not sure but I didn't see anything like that.

That would be the most logical assumption imo, yes.

I don't think so, but as I have proven in this very thread - I was overwhelmed so much that I don't remember everything and need to see it again. It's possible, but I don't think it's implied.

Yeah but it's not like they outright say it, though, from what I remember but I've been either drunk or buzzed every time I've seen TFA so far .

I forgot, while separated, Han and Leia are referred as husband and wife.

I'll be curious to see when Kylo and Rey have their first encounter if he says something like "Is it true, you’re just a scavenger?" like the Kylo Ren mask says. I know in the movie he mentions her being a scavenger, but I don't think it was this line. More like "Come over here, scavenger." A command. The mask's quote always implied a prior familiarity, at least Kylo familiar with Rey.

In the book, he says something alone those lines, yes.

I can't remember anyone stating anything about her being trained as a toddler, but Kylo clearly knows who she is and there is this weird thing when he tries to mind probe her and smashes through some barrier and suddenly she is in HIS head.

    There totally is something there.

Removes the expanded universe to avoid continuity issues. Creates one movie...has continuity issues.

Another important detail, after killing Han:

Someone pointed out how Kylo earlier was able to stopped Poe's shot midair and here he is basically just hit by Chewie's bowcaster.

They removed some redundancies. They removed some scenes that weren't absolutely necessary to shorten the running time, they removed some stuff that was too crystal clear concerning Rey... what I wished they had left in are actually the scenes at the resistance base.
We don't need that much of a chase around the Freighter. That my only gripe with pacing.

Actually, the visual dictionary basically says that Poe was some guy who helped out the New Republic in their rebuilding efforts (which explains why he would know Rey), and also that he belonged to the "Church of the Force" which explains how he would know of Luke (also the fact that Luke is Leia's brother).

Putting both together, it provides adequate explanation for why he knows the Skywalkers and Solos (including Ben).

Not really... we only see her as a young child on Jakku, being left in the care of Unkar Plutt.

What call crystal clear, is what I call pretty important plot details.
It's not like it's giving away her identity and parentage... it just helps the audience to understand that she's more important than she realises AND helps to explain other scenes of the film.
The film just leaves it really ambiguous... You'd almost think that Kylo has no idea who she is.

Didn't need those gangs showing up... would have been nice to see Han grab the Falcon... and then have the First Order show up. Maybe they use their tractor beam on the freighter, but Han takes control of the Falcon and get's them out of there.

The First Order figure out what the ship was, and who took it away from them, and gather the same knowledge about BB-8 on the Falcon as they gathered from the Guavian gand leader.

yes, but that is really my only complaint with the movies pacing, shift around some alotted screen time with the freighter and the resistance base and the balance would have been perfect.

I think the leaving out is deliberate.
I already got a strong sense of Kylo knowing Rey from the way he Force choked the guy who mention her being with BB-8 on their way to the Resistance.
And I got a strong maternal feeling from Leia towards her, so... it was conveyed, but yes, it was a bit more ambigous and I think that was deliberate.

I guess it's similar to the part inANH, where Obi-wan is talking about Vader in such a way that when you watch it in hindsight, it's more obvious that he's making stuff up (which was brilliant, because TESB hadn't even been written at that point).

What were the crystal clear comments about Rey, please.
