OFFICIAL NEWS TFA Teaser Trailer 1 (11.28.2014) Discussion Thread.

Well, this is my first post, and I do hope I'll catch up the discussion here (cause I have a lot of things to say about this), but I just have to say I loved the teaser! I didn't had the faintest clue about what I could expect. I did see the leaked concept art and stuff, and I admire J. J.'s work, but we didnt't know for sure, right. And then the teaser really put me in the good, old Star Wars feeling. I almoust cried when I first saw it at the metro, on my iPhone. When Falcon showed up, and the score as well, I really had to put myself together to not cry out loud of hapiness!

Can't wait for december 2015! (Here in Norway, A.K.A. Hoth, it won't premiere until december 25th :-( ...)

Totally agree. I was emotional too. Been a Star Wars fan since 1980, and I was so happy that the teaser felt like Star Wars. I was worried that they might get the look and the sounds etc, but not actually capture the feel, but having watch the teaser many times, I can honestly say that I feel that they've done it. I know it's just a teaser, but I really do have a feeling that it's going to be good.

 

Is there any chance of a second teaser trailer before the end of the year? Or are we looking at April / May before we get another trailer?

Absolutely! Just a teaser, but -- as you said -- it really feels like Star Wars! And I'm still emotional when Falcon flies into the screen. Pretty sure I'm gonna cry when the original cast members appears ...

 

I couldn't help but smile when the Falcon appeared, with John Williams playing over it... then the Tie Fighters... beautiful! I'm pretty sure I'll well-up when I first see the Original cast in a new scene for the first time in over 30 years.

 

True story! It was just like "It really happens ... Again!" Makes me wonder when a teaser or trailer's gonna show us the original cast as they appear in this movie. Probably not very soon, but I hope we'll get a look at them in a not too far future

 

Probably between Christmas and Newyear, and if not then in January, That is my predictions. Without a doubt before April and May for Teaser 2..

I've been thinking around Christmas too. Then maybe around May we'll get a full trailer, then so on and so forth as they usually release trailers. I definitely think we'll get another teaser soon, maybe at the latest the Superbowl, which is in January is it? Either way, I feel it's not too far away.

 

I would say superbowl. It would be the largest audience watching one thing at one time. Perfect place for a teaser with the original crew in it.

 

Well I think if they do it'd be a full length trailer. That's a huge platform and they'd be paying NBC a hefty fee for the TV spot. I'm sure they'd want to leave a lasting impression about the film and not another tease for the fans and newcomers. Love to see it happen tho!

 

I'm thinking that if there is another teaser, it won't be until the superbowl. For me, that speculation jives with J.J.'s known M.O. I know it's Star Wars and for us fanboys it takes no marketing to get our butts into seats, but there is a larger world out there too, and as far as full-length trailers they absolutely must time the releases correctly. I would say we get the full-length trailer in May with Avengers, and then the second theatrical trailer in October just in time to hype the fact that we'll all be wondering when/where we'll be getting tickets to midnight shows.

thats how I imagined it !! Exactly like that! But before that I think it will be like that

• Opening crawl ends
• Shot on Tatooine, we see new Star Destroyer approaching the planet
• From its hanger, the imperial shuttle takes off approaching the Tatooine

• Imperials land at the village led by the “Sith” with the cross guard lightsaber and begin burning the village down. Stormtroopers then reinforce the flamethrowers as resistance is met. Many troopers die.
• Boyega’s character conscientiously objects to the village burning during the fight, sees his friends die and he steals a TIE Fighter to flee the carnage. He’s a moral hero to be.
• The TIE he stole is shot at and severely damaged. He keeps it in the air for a ways until he’s forced to eject, and he wakes up in the sand dunes as seen in the teaser.
• Scavengers ascend on the TIE after he realizes they’re coming to kill him for his ship and the Imperials are coming to kill him for deserting the troops. He’s screwed, hence how scared he is.
• “Kira” observes the smoke from the burning village. She then travels and finds Boyega in trouble.
• “Kira” saves Boyega from the ruthless scavengers.
• “Kira” is informed they’re looking for the MacGuffin of the film and her bid station is their next target if they didn’t find it at the village.
• The two are now working together for a mutual advantage and survival.
• They board the Falcon and fight their way off the planet.

I’ve just finished reading through the thread and I think it’s time to relay a few thoughts about the teaser.

It was fun reading everyone’s ideas about the teaser and Star Wars in general. It was hard to keep up with the thread but I have finally come to the end.

Boyega “Awakens”: Great vibe to this thanks to the well timed score. It appears he has arrived on Kira’s planet. He is obviously on the run and I can’t help but think he may be a force user or otherwise trained in infiltration. I don’t think he is our “Han” in this film nor a defecting Storm Trooper. In my vision for this clip, based on recent rumours, he is on the run from the Empire and in possession of something of value to them. I hope he is being pursued by an Imperial officer and Knight Trooper as portrayed by Gwendoline Christie. The probe droid audio in the background confirms he is being chased by the Empire as far as I’m concerned.

Ball Droid: I’m cool with it. The SW galaxy has anti-gravity and gyros, all good. As much as it may make some people cringe I think it is an element for the kids and maybe R2 will be into less oil slick antics in his new position as hero of the republic. It would be a mistake not to include some comic relief for the younglings, the OT is full of it. Who knows what it’s up to in this clip.

Stormtrooper Transport: Dig the new armor. Can’t see any reason why it shouldn’t look that way. Clean looking bunch. Fresh out of training? The differences in height of the STs could be uneven floor on the transport. When the door opens it looks like the same desert planet that Boyega and Kira begin their adventure. Check out this lightened pic, it looks like sand between desert planet structures. Is Boyega on the transport? Is he the short Storm Trooper? Or is he already on the planet and this transport is part of the force sent to capture him? Heck I don’t know.



Kira and the speeder: The supposed movie mistake concerning the item on the side of the speeder is probably nothing more than result of a special edit for this teaser. I bet it’s not cut that way in the film and those two clips are part of different scenes. That said the item is interesting and in the close up clip she seems clearly motivated so perhaps she thought the occasion warranted getting out her Lightsaber Pike! I think the item is indeed a weapon and I’m betting on a saber pike. That ain’t no gaffi stick! Come at me. She looks great and I think she will be the central character to the next trilogy. SW trilogies always revolve around one person and she is it.



X-Wings: I think Oscar Isaac may be our new “Han” or anti-hero. For starters he looks like he was just in a fistfight. Perhaps he is one of these pirates we’ve heard about and perhaps he’s leading an assault on “Pirate’s Cove” with a bone to pick with the Empire? Or maybe he’s a Jedi? Oh that’s right Jedi NEVER fly starfighters…. Or Jedi Pirate? Anyhow HOLY COW ABOUT THOSE X-WINGS! Best clip in the teaser hands down. On approach to the Skelling Michael location with the big creepy castle? They look dead serious flying low and fast. Holy Sh*^T! I hope one of those spinoff movies is a Rogue/Red Squadron flick!

Dark Knight: Sith? Or some incarnation of it. A bigger baddie still lurking behind the scenes? I talented young man tempted by Sith relics and the dark side with a head full of stories from the past? Tragically I believe the Sith in this clip is Han and Leia’s son as portrayed by Adam Driver. We won’t find out the true identity of this character until Episode VIII I bet. I also bet that this is toward the end of the movie. There’s a reason he has his back to us in this teaser. They don’t even want to show you his mask just yet not to mention what’s underneath it Also of note is that this is probably the third planet revealed in this teaser, I don’t believe the desert planet is Tatooine. As for the saber, after reading through many opinions on the subject, I believe it is indeed a relic of some sort and am willing to suspend any disbelief about the functionality of the hilt based on this concept and other possibilities like saber resistant alloys or the “exhaust” theory. Notice the girth of the hilt, old tech. A strong style with a longsword (did you see the length of that thing?) will make for less decoration and a more serious tone in duels. I bet this guy doesn’t get his hands cut off like Dooku. Chilling scene and I love the gait and intent of the character. Let’s see if he can follow through.

Falcon: Who says the old cast didn’t make an appearance? Bet it’s Han driving and he’s going to pick up the kid and her new acquaintance or already has. As for the aerial maneuver I think it is a “Split S” maneuver that results in a 180 degree change in direction. The Falcon was under attack by the two fighters and this was a disengagement tactic or a setup for a counter attack. Maybe somebody on the rear guns takes out a tie fighter. (chewie) A balsy move by an ace pilot me thinks.

Voiceover: We already know the voice actor so what’s the deal? I think this is the big baddie. Maybe the thing pushing our misguided youth with gifts and promises of power? It’s a force sensitive being and not a good guy by the sound of it. I don’t think that it’s our friend with the fancy saber, his master maybe? A Sith force ghost or something similar? Surely there wasn’t a physical being lurking somewhere all that time?

Maybe the “Awakening” refers to another vergence in the force connected with the solo children, one dark and one light, setting the stage for an epic battle three movies from now when our young heroine finds her legs and becomes one with the force defeating her more powerful brother with sheer willpower! She probably looses a hand in the next one.

Only 380 more days to go! See you at Teaser Number Two! No way they don’t give us an OT cast trailer Christmas present!
