It first shows up in SW comics back in the 80s, as the weapon of Lumiya - Dark Lady of the Sith, although her's was a composite weapon (light whip + various other whip'y things).






For the record, I think it's a rather cool weapon...

I recently read that The Acolyte's production hired an "intimacy coordinator". An intimacy coordinator is used for sex scenes and scenes requiring nudity. I may not watch this show if I can't watch it with my kids.

 

That's not entirely true. An intimacy coordinator is also used for other close or "intimate" relationships that do not involve nudity, sex, or even romantic interactions. There was one on set for a good bit of Andor, which may have been a more sexually charged than most SW, but was still tame in relation to any other TV or film production. They basically assist actors in finding ways to emote close personal connection. The premise that we know here, is a Padawan and her former Master, so it may simply be a matter of helping them convey such a close relationship.

 

While I'm at it, there's also a rumor that The Acolyte isn't actually filming a full season. The rumor is that she's only filming a pilot or even a sizzle reel. This came from this site:

If you read the whole article, there is some evidence to support it.

 

That being said, I do think this series is going to be very much like Andor as far as having more of an adult feel and themes. Not necessarily unfit for kids, but greatly unappealing to them.

I read a paragraph and a half of that article, that seems like some BS propaganda. This show is absolutely going forward, and there have been several discussions specifically discussing the longer-than-usual runtime of the series, and that the schematic for it is to run for multiple seasons.

Maybe I'm overreaching here, but when someone refers to this as a "controversial series" my radar pings. The only "controversial" aspects I have seen being talked about The Acolyte is based in anti-LGBTQ sentiment. I got no time for that. I don't know anything about that website, but at first glance, it looks very suspect and clickbait-ish.

 

It's a conservative site, but that doesn't mean it's not accurate. I did say that you have to read the whole article to get to the evidence. Also, it's being reported as a rumor.

Conservative? You mean right-wing fascist hate mongers. And accurate how? It's nothing but speculation and assumption. Looks like most of that dude's writing is motivated in bigotry and hate speak.

 

No, I meant conservative. Since it's reported as rumor, it can't be proven accurate, yet. I only said that just because it's a conservative site doesn't mean that it's not accurate. And, you read one article and have determined that most of the author's writing is motivated in bigotry and hate speak? I think you hate conservatives. That's certainly what it looks like by your comments and assumptions.

It's in there. And yes, it doesn't take long for me to call a duck a duck when I see one. I'm not about to get into a debate about it, but when I see every headline of every article is talking about diversity, inclusion, wokeness, and such buzzwords... And dude is absolutely NOT celebrating those things.

I will clarify your point. I do not HATE anyone. My comments are based on what I saw and this not being my first exposure to so-called Conservatives. I don't mean any offense to you, if that's how you lean, then you do you. I just don't have any tolerance for close-minded agenda based "rumors" creeping in and tainting places that I come to escape such BS in the real world.

Again. No offense to you. You simply posed a question based on something you read. That's why we all are here, right? I totally get the reason this all started, you have concern over something being suitable for your kids. Some of these rumors can lead to such concerns. Fair play. I'm very glad my kids are grown, but I have young nieces and nephews now that I worry about growing up in these days.

 

Thank you for meaning no offense to me, I appreciate that. I don't want to offend you either. I don't want to perpetuate an argument. However, you're still maintaining that there is something offensive in the article I linked. I've read it again and still don't find anything that's offensive. What did you find offensive? It talked about rumors from a source in the industry, about The Acolyte, about how shows get made and about a lawsuit. There wasn't any mention of race, religion or sexual preference. It seemed laser focused on the production of the show. If you'd rather not answer and just drop the whole thing, I'm cool with that too. This is the way.

 

Honestly, it's all over that website. You yourself stated that it is a Conservative site. Why does a comic book site that seems to publish articles of several aspects of pop-culture including sports, need to have a political affiliation? There is an agenda there, whether it's clearly worded or not. Can't urinate on my foot and tell me it's raining.

It's entirely their right to speak freely.
It's entirely your right to read it.
It's entirely my right to call it out.

There is a pervasive element within the comic/sci-fi and particularly SW internet community that is just not OK.
