The Acolyte (news and discussions)

It's fine not to be interested in it for whatever reason but there is absolutely nothing wrong in the trailer as far an actor or character! Story takes place 100 years before The Phantom Menance and during the last days/years of the High Republic, Someone is killing jedi and it may be a sith which haven't been around for a thousand years, we know the jedi council or some jedi master will probably cover it all up at the end but we don't know how, who or why..how/why is that not interesting? It's all a major murder mystery involving jedi at a time we know very little about in canon and there's a new interesting and unique villain or villains by default. The jedi and planets in this universe is/was and always will be very diversive but the star wars movies simply started with white leads!

 

You know, I've looked through some of the clickbaity thumbnails on Youtube (I am not watching those *** videos anymore) and it's like "cringe", "woke propagada", "everyone hates the Acolyte", "space lesbians" etc. etc. I mean, Jesus, it's not even out yet. All we have is a teaser that barely revealed anything.
Sure, YT channels work on hype, negativity, content spamming and bandwagons. If one channel starts ranting about Rogue's butt, everyone else has to, otherwise the first channel would steal their subs. The real problem is that it works. A rant about Rogue would get you 150000 views, while a rebuttal would get you 30000, if you are lucky.
So yeah, in this climate (and with this "fandom") Acolyte has a really tough uphill battle to win. Maybe it will win people over, like DnD: Honour among thieves did, after a similar smear campaign. But that movie still flopped, so we will see...

 

Rogue from X-Men? Like X-Men'97? What about her ass?

 

They took an image from the original show where Rogue's ass is especially... prominent, compared with how she looks in the sequel's trailer and made a ton of videos about new show going "woke". I was too young to pay attention to this, but apparently Rogue's butt is not that... detailed most of the time in the original, so this this whole thing is a disinformation campaign based on nothing.
To be fair, something like this is not unprecedented. For instance, they specifically removed Miranda's... rear shots from the Mass Effect re-release. But still.

 

So dumb and petty and just the sake of hating to be negative!

Ohh, nothing to add, I just felt like this bears repeating.
Otherwise, if anyone knows the true origins of Wokeness, you would cringe at any use of the word as an insult or pejorative. It literally came to be used as being aware of the injustices and discrimination that has run rampant in history.

 

Once upon a time, hate and bigotry were hushed, whispered, behind-the-scenes behaviors.

But in today's world, the racists, bigots, homophobes, and misogynists have been emboldened to 'go public.' They 'dress it up' and parade it into discussions with terms like "anti-woke."

And FYI, a "woke" agenda has zero to do with good or bad storytelling.

 

Sad but true. That's some sh..maclunky! And well yeah of course but still gets in the way of it as it they make it seem like it is part of it

 

YouTube doesn't show how many downvotes there are... but apparently there's an extension you can add to your browser that "shows you the dislikes." It's my understanding this is just nonsense data designed to harvest the data of the people adding it. The numbers are probably just made up. The only people interested in seeing dislikes are imaginary dislikes. Give the people what they want and harvest their data.

@Mando LXXXV I've cultivated my YouTube to ignore negative channels. If you see a video thumbnail of something you don't like just click the dot/dot/dot and click "don't recommend channel." It doesn't matter what the news is those outlets are going to continue to be negative forever.

 

Oh I definitely do that but still happens when I watch a new star wars vidoe or two. All good videos and same channels but I get related reaction videos and such then the dumb stuff starts popping in for a week no matter how much I press not recommended

My Star Wars YouTube feed is a pleasant meadow of positivity. It does occasionally require a little weeding and plucking but well worth the work for the mental serenity. There is enough toxicity and BS in the real world I wanna keep my GFFA happy. (Except of course for Sith, Imperials, Nihil, New Order and the like... These are Bad Guys enough without bigots, homophobes and incels, thank you)

I'm looking forward to seeing more Coruscant and especially as it's pre- phantom menace! It's one of my favorite Star Wars planets and so I wouldn't be seeing more of it a much as possible

 

I'm personally taking a break from Star Wars due to the oversaturation of content, but I don't see where the outrage for this comes from based on the trailer itself. I feel bad for Carrie Anne-Moss as she's a great actress and perfect for Star Wars.

 

I also fail to see why so much outrage. Even if it is gonna be about strong independent diverse bisexual women complaining about the patriarchy all the time (or whatever the "argument" is). So what? The show is barely connected to anything else, it's not going to "ruin childhood heroes" or "destroy cultural icons" or anything else of the sort. Heck, it's not even gonna ruin the High Republic books as it is set far from those as well.

 

Being outraged is a quick and easy way to try to enhance your projected image as a proper fan.

How many times have you heard people justify expressing their interminable, borrowed complaints and incessant doom spamming because "I care so much."

Speaking as a fan, I don't want narrow minded, hypocritical, fickle, disingenuous and ignorant people caring about the things I like. Kinda seems like Star Wars was never made for them in the first place.

 

My favorite "outrage" was when the Hunger Games trailer came out and a fan went off online about Hollywood's "woke agenda" when she saw that Rue was going to be played by a Black actress.

Other fans had to break the news to her that the character of Rue was Black in the book.
