I've actually been planning to do a sizable contribution to this thread recently. It's a yet another easy-to-make recipe, much like the previous sandwiches I posted. The recipe is that of my grandmother's homemade pizza. I picked it up this year when I came for my annual visit. The other is something vaguely resembling quesadillas that I love to make on Saturdays - nothing novel, mind you, but me being the lazy bastard that I am - always keep an extra interest in food that you can easily make and still have it come out with exquisite taste.

I've also eaten a lot of great food out in the city. I could post pictures of it and describe the experience, as well as what the general ingredients were, but I'd find it a bit like cheating, which is why I haven't done so thus far.

Well, I forgot to take images of the finished casserole, but it was BOSS. If I was making it just for me, I would have added jalepenos and peppers, but this one was family-friendly. It was still really good.

I've been meaning to share some recent endeavors as well. For now, I'll cheat a little bit by with a throwback to one of our final "fall harvests"...

    20170929_180424.jpg

This was only about a month ago. We usually end up planting our garden late (mid to late June), but it works out nice because we end up with a pretty good haul late in the summer / early fall. After this, we picked one more time and ended up with about triple what you see there. It was a good year for the garden!

AWESOME! How big is your garden? Does anyone here do small indoor gardening? The tomatoes that come out of my mom-in-law's yard are some of the most flavorful tomatoes that I have ever had.

Homegrown is the best! Always tastes better when you do it yourself.
I don't do any indoor, but I want to start. Probably just herbs and spices, nothing crazy.

Our outdoor isn't very big... about 3' x 16' or so? We over-plant it though, haha. This is only our second year with it, but it's been great so far. This is when we had first planted / I was just finishing the raised bed last year:

    IMG_2533.JPG

I plan on making some modifications next year. Since the downspout is right there, I want to run a simple little PVC branch off of it for a self-sustaining irrigation system. And I'm never good on keeping up with tying up the tomato plants... I want to put in some semi-permanent poles and wires through there somehow to help support the plants without constant attention from me.

At first I was worried that the garden wouldn't get enough sunlight. It gets full sun from sunrise to about 11 or noon, and then its full shade. But with the bricks holding that heat all day, the tomato plants responded really well and have taken off each season so far.

Tomato plants are a nightmare to keep up with mine was south facing & next to a wall & it whent totally nuts. Next year I will trim it back a lot earlier & not let it get so out of control. Plus all the tomatoes might ripen this time as this year I lost about a third of the crop due to letting to meny develop & then they failed to ripen by the end of the season.

I made pumpkin pie just before Halloween and I believe the Sith clouded my judgement as I forgot to post pics and recipes on here :(

Rest assured, it was incredible - lots of spice here, some pumpkin there. I now know that I'm not a fan of the smell pumpkins emit when they're cooking, however...

It happens to the best of us! I forgot the pictures of the last kale feast, so this is another pending recipe on my to-do list.

Hm, I once read a fine book ‘Thief of Time’ about one of the history monks, “the sweeper” Lu-Tze. He preferred rancid yak butter in his tea if I remember correctly.

@Rincewind and @Ridcully , what are your cups of tea?

Yeah, tea is a topic also around my house. I drink all kinds of – in the morning I prefer a composition consisting of green and black tea, cinnamon, orange peel, cardamom and cloves. That aroma is considered to have an Arabian touch, but it’s also very fitting for the Christmas season. The spices get me awake and ready for the day.

    KashmirKali-Kawa_tea.jpg

By the beginning of this months, I received an Advent calendar, which is a tradition around here. This calendar has a wicket (bag etc.) for each day in December until Christmas eve to shorten the waiting time. So there’s a small gift behind that wicket (or in a bag etc.) on each day – and mine this year contains a different type of tea each day (enough for 0.5 liters). One of my favorites so far was a Rooibos – ginger – seaberry blend.

And as this is the Cuisine thread as well, I like to post a small recipe for tea sugar that you can make yourself and use as a small gift during this time of the year by adding some decorative elements to that jar.

    Ingredients
    • Rock candy/sugar
    • Rum
    • 1 Vanilla bean/pod
    • (a jar with lid, e.g. from jam)
Put the sugar in the jar, add the lengthwise sliced vanilla and fill up with rum – leave about 20% free. The rum will dissolve the candy over time, so repeat filling in candy until the rum is saturated and the candy will stay solid. Now it’s ready to use by adding it to your cup of tea.

    RumRockCandy.jpg kadis.jpg

Edit: Of course you could add other aromas like a cinnamon stick or orange peel as well. All that sugar and alcohol will prevent it from getting spoiled.

A Tea Advent Calendar sound fantastic I'm currently enjoying a chocolate one:D (& yes I'm only eating one a day) though I was very tempted by the whisky one but the price was kind of off putting.
Back to Tea I'm a bit of a purist & don't really enjoy fruit teas give me a good old fashioned Darjeeling or a Earl Grey (yes this has bergamot in it but it not to fruity) or a good Green Tea. At the moment I'm enjoying a Caco Breakfast Tea which is a Assam Tea with Caco nibs added to it. Oh & I take all my Tea Black no milk no sugar.

@Star Dude: tea is so beautiful even just to look at. so many blends that aren't really suited to my palette, but i love to see and smell them all! for Christmas i prefer peppermint or ginger, but a bit of orange is also nice. : D

@Addi Ras: i didn't get an advent calendar this year (how is it already December 5th???). maybe i will pick something up for the 12 days of Christmas instead.

Does anyone make any Star Wars themed food? I've been thinking about doing something for the TLJ release. I know the official Star Wars website has A BUNCH of stuff but most of it is baking. While I do consider myself a pretty above average cook, baking isn't my strong suit. I wanna try one of their recipes for blue milk but I have to have something to go with it.

if you just want something really simple, you can buy premade plain cookies and then ice them with Star Wars themed things?
here's some madelines turned into sand people:

    designs can be very simple:

here's TIE fighters made with cookies and marshmallows:

there was also those icing-covered pretzal sticks made to look like lightsabers? very simple to do. here's a bunch of different styles:
