Attention Mando-fans - this is not a drill!

We are officially ON countdown to the debut of the 3rd season of The Mandalorian in precisely 40 days time

As part of the build-up to the show's much anticipated return, we want to hear from YOU!

Each day we are inviting one of you, the Cantina patrons, to share one of your favourite things about the Mando-verse in this thread for us - it could be a character, a 'thing', a scene, an episode, the score*... whatever you like. Fellow patrons can then comment on that day’s suggested favourite and the next day someone adds a new suggestion. By the day Mando S3 drops we should then have a 40 item list of the Cantina’s favourite Mando things :)

    The only rules are:
    1. One favourite is to be posted per day. Please give everyone a chance, members are asked not to post their own choices on consecutive days - but joining in the discussion of each daily favorite is obviously encouraged!
    2. It must be Mando series relevant (so yes, things from the Mando-centric TBoBF episodes qualify)
    3. This is intended as a celebration of the show so far, not a soapbox for ranting or telling us which canonical error has been thrown up, so let's try and keep things light and positive ;)

So as a starter for Day 40... I'm going to start with this scene:

Mando Arrives, S1E1 - it was a great way to open the show, the (then) lone and un-named gunslinger being pitched as our GFFA equivalent to Clint Eastwood's iconic Man With No Name

So, let's have it - what do you think? Iconic? Worthy? The floor is yours...

    *I'm looking at you here @Lock_S_Foils! ;)

Cool thread. K everyone is going to say the Luke catching wreck on the droids scene so......allow me to be the first lol :D.

My personal favorite (sorry I know this is two) is Luke, Grogu and R-2 in the elevator. I straight up cried when I saw that.

Great lead off!! It was easily one of the most epic entrances. I can hear Ludwig's recorder whistling just by looking at that image. :D

The follow-up scene was perfect, too. I loved the silent restraint he showed, not bothering with the two meat heads until they threatened his armor / religion.

It's impossible for me to see that image and not hear Ludwig's iconic theme music.

Looking at the above image with the Desperado Brown, sometimes it's easy to forget that Mando didn't always have that shiny new beskar. How far we (and he!) have come... and yet it still feels like we are just getting started.

    Iconic?- YES!
    Worthy?- HELL YES!!!

That circular diaphragm door opening... that music... the Lone Gunslinger standing there for a moment (for extra dramatic effect).
After dispatching with some local thugs in creative fashion, the (thusfar) silent stranger presents the thugs' source of interest with a "Bounty Puck".
In reaction to the "victim's" attempts at playing ignorent, the Gunslinger utters one of the most epic, badass oneliners ever put to film... (lando)

It set the tone and hooked just about anybody who watched it!

The perfect scene to kick off a great thread.

Absolutely one of the best opening scenes in all of TV. That familiar 'Whoosh' of the door, that silhouette of Mando, that music! Everything was so comfy and familiar, yet new and fresh all at the same time. My soul was thrown back to watching Luke entering Jabba's palace. I didn't know what was gonna happen next, but I was gonna love it. Much like a 9 year old me, I was physically and audibly giddy throughout that first scene... When he snared the Quarren and closed the blast door... C'MON!!!! No turning back.

While the beskar is a great visual representation of Mando ‘levelling up’, I still really dig his original starter (noob?) outfit.

It’s all kinda game themed - he goes on a quest, gathers resources, uses them to level his gear by trading them with an NPC (The Armorer)…

Hey, all! I'm gonna swoop right in and grab today's slot

What I appreciate the most with The Mandalorian is the concept of space dad and his charge.
    the-mandalorian-1200.jpg

I find this a fresh change of pace from the destiny-dictated bigly-awesome that permeates so much of Star Wars, and it is some of the most heart-warming stuff in the franchise. It underpins every choice and every challenge these (and other) characters have in the show, and there's so much everyday love at play here. Makes one consider fatherhood, TBH.

I wasn't sure what to think during this first episode, but I was intrigued... I mean, at least this guy wasn't a chatterbox. :D Now it's iconic though. I feel kind of nostalgic for it even though it was just, what, 2019 that it first graced our small screens?

    Yes!!

I have loved watching Din evolve from an isolated guy to someone whose whole life is wrapped up in love and protectiveness. Yes, there big things going on in the galaxy, but you know what? Doing what you can to love someone else can be just as important--it certainly is in their life!

Having rewatched the first three episodes of Season One a million times, it's obvious that The Child senses Din's inherent goodness from the get-go. Before the little guy saved Din's life in the mudhorn pit, he tried (unsuccessfully) to heal Din's wounds after the ambush by bounty hunters. Despite being emotionally closed off and a man of few words, The Child understood Din and his potential better than he himself did.

The show hasn't gone out of its way to emphasize it, but Din and Grogu's backstories are very similar. The show implies it was one of the reasons why Din eventually lowered his emotional defenses. In 'Baby Yoda,' he sees the young boy who once upon a time was rescued by a Mandalorian. It was so powerful, he became one. Now he training Grogu to become one too.

The other aspect of Din's 'fatherhood' that I appreciate Favreau highlighting in his scripts is the fact that he initially sucks at it. The responsibility of it makes him feel ill-equipped and awkward. And he did a lot of things that had viewers -- especially Mothers -- shouting 'No, no, no, Mando, you shouldn't do that!' to the TV screen. But that's one of the show's powerful messages -- one that's highlighted in those commercials you hear about becoming a foster parent: Kids don't need perfect parents; they just need ones who'll love them.

Excellent call @Angelman! Given how the show started, did any of us really expect things to turn into the GFFA equivalent of Shogun Assassin…? I certainly didn’t.

I’m probably asking for a flogging, but one of the aspects that most intrigued me was the fact that that they’re clearly both from different species and Din has no real skin-in-the-game here, so what made him take on The Child, without question?!

Yes! Who would have ever thought that a show about a Mandalorian, the bad-asses of the GFFA, would actually have a heartwarming father and son basis? And that it would work? And with a baby Yoda? Honestly, the show that I think we all were expecting would have likely grown tedious by now- strong, silent Mando chasing bounties around the Galaxy, three seasons in, meh... The relationship gives this show heart. It gives every storyline and event a different gravity, just like children do in real life. No longer can you just fly through life by the seat of your pants. Every decision impacts another being. You do things you wouldn't before they were in the backseat. Sure, you really want to keep the convertible mustang, but you know the 4-door sedan is the better choice.:( They're not just the most important thing in your life, they ARE your life. You see that in Din. It's real and it's palpable. That's why I chuckle Every time some cynic complains about "Grogu left Luke too soon.... It's just for Disney to sell more merch, blah, blah" Silly fools. This is the story Faverau wanted to tell. I feel like the father/son dynamic is the main line and every other arc is built around that. They were never gonna go more than a very brief separation of these two. You send your kid to summer camp, and it's great, but after a few days, it's time to come home.

Oh shoot @Lazarus Dei I think I am up next!!! And what a tough one - wow.....well, you Cantinians that know me well know I am a spacecraft geek....soooooooooooo.....how about the Razor Crest!!!???

Yes, one of the most iconic ships in SW History

From the first time we see it in S1E1....
    Capture-RCS1E1.JPG

We even get a chance to see the toilet facilities, I believe a first ever in any SW show!! Yes, where the Mythrol warns Din he does not want him to see a Mythrol evacuate his Thorax --- EWWWWWW --- oh and by the way he is MOLTING too......i dont want to know what that means as far as using the toilet!!

    Capture-RCS1E1toilet.JPG

We get to see Din's extensive weapons array

    Capture-RCS1E1wpns.JPG

And then in Episode 8 at the end - the famous REBEL SYMBOLS in the engine exhaust as they take off!!!

    Capture-RCS1E8-rebel-symbols.JPG

Finally in S2 E 12 we get to see the Razor Crest at it's best - The awesome Hammerhead stall turn that Din performs, going straight up, bleeds off the airspeed, then pops the speed brakes on the engines, stops in mid air, flips over and powers up, lined up perfectly on the TIE!!!

Dear old Razor Crest, may she rest in peace. That ship always amused me--such a bachelor pad with its bare-bones comforts, like the no-privacy fresher and the closet Din sleeps in--although it is fully equipped with weapons and a travel-size carbonite freezer. :D Just a guy and his kid, traveling across the country galaxy living in a VW bus...

I mentioned this once before but fans grew fond of the Razor Crest because it became 'the Rocky Balboa' of Star Wars. The ship kept getting battered, bashed, and bruised yet somehow kept on flying. The abuse the poor thing took in Mando S2:E3 is still my favorite Razor Crest story.

Totally agree, it gave a huge plottwist at only the second episode... and the series was so much the better for it!

    Great call @Lock_S_Foils!
It was gorgeous, sturdy, tenacious and decked out to a T...

it took SO many beatings along the way...

...only to get patched up, just to get sent out into the harshness of space again...

...sometimes barely landing in one piece...

...sometmes it hardly counted as landing at al!!

You always half expected it to end at some point.
But the callous way it did... without a chance to fight...
