We know that Star Wars Episode 7 is going to make a'lot of money, but just how much money?
To keep this simple we will only be speculating on the overall theatrical revenue of the world wide release.
With that out of the way, tell us what you think that Episode 7 is going to make.

i'm not sure what a'lot is (allot? a lot? ;)) but i'm betting we hit around $1.5 billion in the initial release. after a potential re-release and home movie stuff, definitely over $2 billion.

Good pick. I'm going to go with about $1.3 billion at most.

Avatar made 2.7b. (1st opening weekend worldwide)
    I say 3.1b. (1st opening weekend worldwide)
Largest payout ever for a 250 million dollar movie. New Record and Disney will make back the $4B (Lucas) investment in the first 6months the movie is released.

I agree. I don't know how Avatar did so well, it was just Pocahontas in space.

hold on, are you suggesting Avatar made $2.7 billion on its opening weekend? because that's way off lol that figure sounds more like total of box office earnings, not opening weekend figures. remember, they re-released Avatar which really pumped up the earnings; same thing for TPM, actually.

EDIT: ironically, Avatar only made about $77 million its opening weekend. top opening weekend goes to The Avengers at a whopping $207 million! my guess is ep. 7 tops this and becomes the new number one in opening weekend figures. the only real competitor out there right now is Age of Ultron...

Social media, James Cameron's film making prestige, news broadcast about people feeling suicidal because they can't actually go to Pandora "Avatar planet", late December release date, not being a reboot or a sequel, 3D ticket prices.

Hmmm.... I still think the movie sucked compared to other top box-office performers.

I'm not going to comment on the quality of the movie, but it was at the time the "it thing" to go watch/talk about that movie. Much like the first Star Wars movie.

You don't need too, if you saw avatar you saw Dances with Wolves.

White Soldier is posted on desolate post, meets peaceful Indians, falls in love with Indian Woman, becomes one of the tribe, then fights bad white man that comes in to hurt the peaceful Indians and take their land....

    Ring a bell?

My understanding is that the Ewoks will not appear in Ep VII because they have all been reassigned to picking up and counting the money that will be coming in

I think it depends on how aggressively they kick in the marketing and merchandising campaign prior to the release.

Which makes me think for how much longer can they be secretive about characters, vehicles, props etc.

Toy Store shelves will want to be loaded in the months leading up to release to maximize Xmas sales. Merch revenue alone is going to be astronomical.

There's never been a time I can remember in my life where there haven't been Star Wars toys at every Target and Walmart even without a movie to support. I could see an entire aisle dedicated to star wars in stores like that and certainly multiple ones in places like Toys 'R Us in the months leading up to the movie.
Already, this is the most buzz I've ever seen for a film over a year before it's release (keeping in mind I was too young to really follow this when Episode 1 was announced).

With all the hype and anticipation, I think Episode VII easily hits $200 Million in it's first weekend alone. For the overall run, if buzz is positive about the film going into the release, an easy 1.3-1.5 BILLION worldwide during the run. I think there's an outside chance of 2 Billion if the movie is truly the return to form we've all been waiting for. Realistically I don't think it will beat Avatar as that was one of the first "MUST watch in 3D" films and made a lot more money in part because of that.

That said, I'd have no complaints if Star Wars did come out on top with upwards of 2.8 Billion.
