I don't know if this has been discussed or not, nor do I know if this makes any sense.

Can anyone remember an incidence from the films where a force ghost has been able to physically interact with an object or person? I for one, can't.

In TLJ Yoda 'bops' Luke on the head with his staff  (kinda also burns down a tree but the 'bop' was more effective a description)

Does this mean that force ghosts can interact with the world in a physical sense?

If they can, what's the significance and does it change anything?

I think in Return of the Jedi, Obi-Wan sits on a fallen tree branch, so I suppose it's not without precedent.

Also if you read one of the stories in "Certain Point Of View" I think there's a bit about Obi-Wan talking with Qui-Gon Jinn which is well worth a read, and may provide some more clues :) I don't want to say too much as I didn't want to spoil it for anyone who's not read it yet :)

Those physical interactions are new and they are really significant, it means that Kylo is completely screwed, he can't even defeat Rey and she has backup in the form of 3 or 4 immortal force ghosts that can conjure lightning from the skies, let's hope Snoke had some contingency plan and is not really gone...

It seems that now its posible. And I liked how it was done. Something different for the SW universe.

It made think about the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze. You need certain training or habilty to interact with the real.world.

Obi Wan's ghost also pushes away branches as he walks to the log he sits on i think. Can i just say that i felt really good to see Yoda again and hear that music again? I felt like i was 12 years old again.

The Yoda scene was just awful, total eye roller.

    Certainly...

There are a couple of pieces actually....

In the chapter "Master and Apprentice" Qui-Gon appears to Obi-Wan as he's stood in front of the Jawa landcrawler in Episode 4, and C-3PO is throwing the Jawa bodies on the pyre to cremate them, and there's a sentence in the book that reads: "The droid have begun cremating the Jawa bodies. Qui-Gon is substantial enough now to smell the ash. But he is of the Force, and so he feels Luke's pain and horror as truly as his own"

And a bit further on Obi-Wan says : "You're very nearly corporeal, I've never seen you appear like this." Qui-Gon then answers "It is a matter of learning to claim both the physical world and detach oneself from it."..." ma matter of finding center, of calming one's soul and giving one's self over completely to the Force. Some Jedi choose to transition between life and death in that way, though I could scarcely have imagined it when I was alive. Even after death, we continue to learn"

Then in the Chapter "There is Another" Obi-Wan meets up with Yoda on Dagobah to tell him that Luke's on his way, and he sits on Yoda's bed and comments "The bed feels damp" which suprises Yoda, and he says "bother you does the dampness still Master Kenobi?" to which Obi-Wan answers "You will be surprised Master" Yoda answers back "For one nine hundred years old, no more surprises are there" to which Obi-Wan retorts "I promise you Master, you will be surprised."

So I wonder if we'll see more Force Ghosts in episode 9? Hope so :)

I don't think previous force ghosts showed this power, however , I can't think of anything they did to suggest they couldn't, either. It just wasn't relevant before

For me it was one of the best scenes in the movie. Yoda was like the OT Yoda: Wise but teasing. The conversation between Yoda and Luke had so much stuff which you could learn from.

Force Ghosts could aways interact with their surrounding, but I don't think they could use the force to destroy stuff. That's definitely interesting for the stories to come.

Force ghosts cannot interfere with the will of the force. So what they do and do not do is based on the will of the force.

And by the way, Yoda only destroyed a tree. Rey took the Jedi books. You can clearly see that at the end of the film when Finn opens a drawer on the Falcon.

Agree. Kinda of lost my sh** when Yoda burned down the tree and started laughing. I was in tears laughing.
Beyond the comedy though, it brought me back to Empire. There were a few brief moments where i saw OT Luke Skywalker shine through, and this was one of them. After all these years, Yoda is still teaching Luke, and after all these years, Jedi Master and Legend Luke Skywalker still needs some advice from a master, but more than that, an old friend. Warmed my heart.

I laughed out load so much when Yoda sparked the lightning - to be honest Thor doing it would have made much more sense.

exactly Yoda seems less crazy for destroying the books if one assumes that he already knew something Luke did not. that rey had taken the books. but i love the interaction between luke that gives master yoda this look of "are you crazy what have you just done?!" and yoda ,as usual, is 5 steps ahead of him.

Mixed feelings in this scene too.

-Great to see Yoda again, the funny ESB Yoda.
-Awful to destroy the Jedi Myths and Jedi history in a sec without giving some interesting philoshophical and mythological points.
    -Great interaction with Luke
    -Bad done.

I am the only one who thinks Force Ghost in ESB and ROTJ (37-34 years ago) were technically far far better than this Yoda?

Wow, thanks, don't remember that. If it's true these are good news. One interesting point to catch for the next chapter
