OT question - why everyone call it "eight pack"? In my country we call it "six pack" - is it normal or some cultural reference? Just curious.

 

I still can't accept the Snoke fait. And no back storry..........

 

It's a Saturday Night Live TFA video reference. It's an episode of "undercover boss" which follows Kylo Ren pretending to be "Matt" a radar tech.

Mat claims Kylo Ren has an "eight pack", and an imbecile in the Supremacy's cantina calls him a "whiny little Vhlor".

This pic shows he was telling the truth after all!

It's meant to be an exaggeration of the term "six pack"-I.e Kylo is more muscled than even that.

 

How was Canto Bight? Did it leave much of an impression or was it just another Star Wars-y location? How about the evil BB8 droid, did if fight the good BB8??

 

The Canto Bight sequence was over quick. Not much of an impression.

The evil BB8 only sees the good BB8. There is not really an interaction between them.

Fans of Finn will be disappointed.

 

Not that I can remember. I remember a black canvas with stars sprinkled around. There were beautiful shots on the surfaces of the planets, though.

Boyega's acting is fine. The storyline is problematic. It is ... pointless.

Wow. Rey really did think she could return Kylo to the light. Calling him “ben”.

That greenie scene though. They’ve made Luke so OOC. It’s unbelievable.

 

The Holdo scene I guess, I remember something silent, I think this is it.

 

Yeah, I'm wondering about that. You see that connection in TFA but then Snoke says his created it to manipulate them or whatever. Does he mean all along (even in TFA) or just the telepathy from across the galaxy in TLJ? I wonder if there's even a straight answer. With different directors and screenwriters, there are going to be things that don't add up or contradict.

 

You could say the same about ESB. It went nowhere other than a twist. It ended in a cliff hanger. It began kind of meaningless.

 

Now that I have calmed down a bit...some other thoughts.

This was basically a muddled story about Rey co starring BB8. She is a tad annoying to be fair in the film and so was BB8. I am not surprised Luke told her to go away and get off his island. She was giving him a headache. And the audience.

The porgs got more screen time than Chewbacca, Leia, R2D2, and C3PO put together. Disney will sell a lot of porgs this Christmas I guess. Chewbacca...2 mins at best. R2D2 less than 10 seconds. CP30....said something....briefly.

That pointless silver snow trooper is a waste of screen space. It got beat up in the force awakens and gets beat up again in the last jedi. What is the point of this character ?

Finn was Ok in the movie. So was Rose. Yet the bit at the casino that seemed to last for ever bored me and everyone else in the cinema to tears.

There was another new character (famous actor) but you would never know he was in the film. BB 'bad' 8 had screen time of less than 5 seconds. Again, what was the point apart from selling toys ???

Kylo Ren was a wet sponge again which is why you can't take him seriously. Good actor mind you.....well at playing a wet sponge. Not really Darth Vader material. You feel sorry for him for being so wet. Not really the villain but more an anti social type that has lost his way.

Hex/hugs...was more annoying and useless than he was in the force awakens. Complete drip. So how does someone that useless become employed on an imperial cruiser ???

Snoke the most powerful force in the universe was killed toooooo easily and if you blink you would miss it. So that was the end of him. Yawn. What was the point of Snoke exactly in the series ???

Leia can survive space.

What happened with Luke at the end ? Dead, not dead, force ghost....who cares.

I think the point is, after watching the film. You really don't care.

Shame on you Disney.

If Mark Hamill was not in this film it would have been a disaster. He saved it. Just !!!

 

Well I will just say I'm glad I'll be seeing the movie fully spoiled in advance just like with TFA, it seems the only approach to take something positive out of these movies is to shut down your brain to ignore all the plot holes and stupid story decisions and just enjoy them for the cinematography and the music, I'm glad John Williams never disappoints.
The thing is the story is the most important thing about these movies to me, the prequels had some flaws in specific dialogue and the execution of some scenes but the overall story arc was masterful. These new episodes seem to be written by people who don't know anything about star wars, it's characters, or good story telling at all. I didn't have much hope in JJ since he had already butchered Star Trek but I had some faith Ryan would address the issues in TFA, it seems it's only getting worse.
Well as I said I'll try to be positive and focus on the positive when I watch the movie, there is still hope for the future, at least Rogue One had a well written coherent story.
