Oh, edit just to say: R2-D2!! (artoo) Can’t believe I didn’t mention him already. The cherry on the icing on the cake for me!

I instantly thought “could it be... ?!” when I saw the X-Wing, but they’d helpfully prime us by including other X-Wings in the season. It was the green of the lighsaber that gave me my final, squeal-worthy confirmation. :D

Great episode. I’m at the point where I trust the show with season 3. Even if they are doing some crazy stuff. Snips and Luke in live action creates a great bridge from the cartoons to the OG trilogy and I never thought that would happen. Granted this show has done that a few times before.

ok, so the Dark Troopers booting up, is it just me or did that sound very “Iron Man” when the helmet clinks home? Not a complaint, just curious.

Luke’s reveal had me guessing even after the saber was sparked, it wasn’t until I saw the single gloved hand that I let myself believe.

If Din can take his helmet off can’t Bo just beat him in sabacc or holochess, where is this “more civilized age” Obi talked about?

I qeeked out not just for Luke but the green saber. I've always loved it so much and to see it in live action again with Luke like that was amazing

I think what gave me a hint was the way Grogu reacted, like he could sense this was someone special, it was subtle but significant; they do such an amazing job with that puppet/model.

    The suspense was executed perfectly.

After the chapter The Jedi, I speculated that it was a droid who took Grogu from the temple.

Is Chapter 16 implying that it was Artoo? They seemed to recognise each other.

Pretty much agree with all of this. The wife and I were talking after the last episode and I felt like there was only ONE Jedi who could arrive to save the day and it needed to be Luke.

I actually don't have an issue with the cgi compared to Rogue One. I mean, the budgets aren't quite the same, and I'm sure the time crunch came into play. Could it be better? Sure. But seeing that green lightsaber light up and finally getting to see Luke do some ass-kicking like that (I said it looks like he learned some blast from his old man!) was worth it.

Yeah, I'm in Star Wars nerd heaven right now.

Not sure how to feel about that episode. Some parts I really loved others felt very dumb to me especially the two times they blasted with the established canon in regards to Luke training Grogu and in regards to the Darksaber.

It is established in Canon that the Darksaber can be given to others without a fight whatsoever and it happened with Bo-Katan! Why is it a problem for her to accept the Darksaber from Din Djarin when she accepted it from Sabine Wren years prior. She didn't win it in combat the first time around, why would she have to now?

Also afair Luke said Kylo Ren was one of his first students and he won't start training until six years after this episode! Which is problematic at least...

    Btw:
Is "The Book of Boba Fett" replacing "The Mandalorian" or. is this "Mandalorian Season III"? The release date is the supposed release date of Season 3 iirc. So have we seen the 18 Chapters of "The Book of Din Djarin and The Child" or something like that and will now follow "The Book of Boba Fett"?

Or: Is this simply the missing 10th series they announced and didn't annouce at the same time?

Yeah, I loved that interaction - It’s funny to think Artoo may have just given us all huge spoilers without anyone knowing yet lol.

    R2-D2: ‘Bleepity-bleep-bleep’
Translated: “Oh hi Grogu, you look younger than before. Good to see you again. When are you changing your name to Yoda and going hundreds of years back in time? Yeah, good job only Luke knows what I’m saying I guess!”

    (Joking... not joking... maybe...;))

I admit I didn't immediately think Luke at the moment the X-Wing arrived. I just thought "Damn stupid Republic fly boy. Identify yourself for the lady!" But the penny dropped about a second later when Grogu's ears stood up.

I was a wee bit sad that the imperial comms officer didn't get an onscreen death that I noticed.

Yeah, I thought it was going to be Carson... :p

Then I thought it was Luke but the hallway monitors are in black and white, so I wasn't sure it was the green saber!

Yeah, I was confused about the darksaber thing too after Sabine gave it to Bo-Katan. But I wonder if Bo-Katan lost it dishonorably to Gideon and now feels like she has to earn it back somehow? (The irony behind this would be that she was mocking Din for slavishly obeying the honorable code of his "cult" tradition and yet here is Bo-Katan slavishly obeying her tradition too...)

Yes, Ben Solo is just a little kid at this point--maybe 5?--so Luke isn't training him yet. Luke didn't start his temple until years later. But this episode doesn't necessarily break canon because there's time between now and then, and much could happen with Grogu in the meantime.

I got the impression that the Boba thing is completely separate from Mando Season 3. My take is that they were saving this announcement as a surprise so we wouldn't know whether Boba would die in this episode.

Brilliant. Love that last line you wrote here. :)

Yeah, I think it’s like Gideon said (I think) about it being about the story as much as the object... the ‘legend’ might be another way of putting it, which is cool given Luke was about to turn up in full ‘legend’ mode, foreshadowing his eventual need to regain the belief in being a legend to give hope to others in his ST arc.

Well, right back at you. I love your last line too. Great insight! With Mandalore in such a wrecked state (whatever that is), Bo-Katan might feel that she needs a more significant story behind acquiring the symbol of her rulership...

I was kind of hoping Bo-Katan was going to attack Din here. That is exactly the type of thing that someone like Moff Gideon is able to achieve. However, the dark troopers and a certain Jedi had to pause this battle for a future season.

I'm sure we'll see the Din vs. Bo-Katan fight VERY early in s3e1, possibly even as the opening scene.

I have to admit, after my second vewing in a better quality, that Luke's face is not that bad. First moment you see it it last like forever. But certainly is just a couple of shots. And previous scenes are so epic that it really doesnt matter if it's not perfect.
Luke appearance is perfect, am so happy just with this.

    OMG! Yes!

    Absolutely LOVE THIS!

    Wow. Love this perspective.

As I said, Luke is perfect. I cried with the xwing, the green saber, the glove, the boot...

Definetly better the second time. recious moment in my life.

    ABSOLUTELY!! what a shot!!

Still in shock for all I have seen.

I forgot to include in my review one tiny element that brought me all the joy!
--The Dark Troopers, they were animated to move with stop-motion quirkiness! That's some deep appreciation for the love and genre of Star Wars <3

Can we talk about spectacular 'show, don't tell'? By showing a single dark trooper almost trample Mando, who is himself experienced warrior, and then showing Luke just going through them like they are cheese. Also, that final choke/melt/crumple move was 100% Daddy Vader.

The goodbye between Mando and Grogu broke my heart. They are the clan of two! Don't separate them!

"He wants your permission" was the killer line.

just touching on the sabine darksaber issue.

she didn't win the saber in a duel/battle from the previous owner so maybe thats why she was able to pass it forward to Bo-Katan.
